Red Faction: Battlegrounds To Focus On Multiplayer Intensity
THQ and Volition are working very hard to expand the Red Faction universe; we know about Armageddon, the next full installment, and a new sci-fi film based on the franchise.
And now, yet another title appears on the horizon: Red Faction: Battlegrounds, a downloadable multiplayer-oriented effort destined for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. As announced at GamesCom this week, Battlegrounds will be the very first downloadable entry in the series, and it'll focus on fast-paced, nonstop action. Featuring mechs, tanks, rovers and other types of vehicles and machines, you will "wreak havoc above ground and beneath the surface of Mars." In keeping with that patented RF flair, just about everything you see can - and probably will - be destroyed, so saddle up for a rock 'em, sock 'em experience.
Four players will compete against one another either locally or online in a variety of game modes, including Survival, Annihilate and Flag Frenzy. You will rank up and gain rewards as you go, so there's always incentive to perform well. The only caveat is that GamesCom is a European conference, the game is being developed by THQ Digital Studios UK, and it was reported at a UK source. Therefore, this may only be available in Europe when it arrives, but we're hoping otherwise.
Either way, Red Faction: Battlegrounds is scheduled to drop some time next year.
