New GT5 Info: GT Life Replaces Gran Turismo Mode
Every time we think we know everything there is to know about Gran Turismo 5, another round of information hits...and we get impressed all over again.
Sony revealed even more details for the upcoming racer at GamesCom, and to read through an in-depth summary, check out the European Gran Turismo 5 site. A-Spec and B-Spec modes are back but instead of merely choosing either for a particular race, you will choose one during "GT LIFE" mode. This new option replaces the standard Gran Turismo Mode, and here, you will forge your career either as a driver in A-Spec or a driving director in B-Spec. And of course, you've got the requisite Garage, Dealerships, and Tuning features and perhaps to the chagrin of many, the License Tests have also returned (Golds better not be hair-pulling impossible this time!). The My Lounge option for online multiplayer fans is great, the Course Maker will certainly require imagination and attention to detail, and that kart racing looks pretty darn entertaining. Lastly, they heap some history on you, and explain how some of the classics came to be in the game. Gran Turismo 5 is downright loaded; it should be the complete simulation experience.
So who's ready to drive? If you're feeling a little uncomfortable, you can always hit "Practice" for the first few hours, or something.

The other good thing about having a wheel is the fact that it's locked in place so you can't throw it at the TV.

Anyways, Vipers are the greatest cars EVER, so I didn't have too much trouble passing that test. However, I didn't bother trying to get golds on any of the tests. I just wanted to pass.

I kinda love and hate Laguna Seca. Some days you take that curve perfectly but other days you just eff it up... Yeah yeah practice makes perfect but when you're behind the leader and you're losing seconds it can really push you to the limit.

Winning in B-Spec mode in GT4 required good management ( like for example, knowing when to tell your driver to enter the pit stop).
This time round, however, you have to 'nurture' your driver. He'll start off inexperienced, but you'll be able to mould him into a pro eventually, after a good couple of races.
Also in GT5 ,winning races is dependant on how well you issue commands to your driver. If you give him too many commands , he'll become flustered and make mistakes, thus costing you the race

If that happens, direct them to other features that GT has. It's a genre defining experience.
NASCAR Series
WRC Rally cars
F1 Open Wheel race cars
Super GT Series
LeMans Series
Top Gear and The Stig
Redbull Racing
18mp Photomode
16 cars on track
16 player online races
32 player lobbies
Track Creator
KART Racing
A professional race driver who project leads.
1000 plus cars
200 plus of the most detailed autos in a game.
The return of Race Modification (YES!)
Dynamic time settings
Weather including snow, rain, and wind
Dynamic damage modeling
RPG inspired B-Spec Team mode
Plus, the official unveiling isn't until TGS10
If all that doesn't work. Tell them GT5 is the "definitive" racing experience 10 times in one sentence. MS folks respond to that kind of stuff.

This is going to be the best racing/sim ever and it will last another 5 years after it launches.
I can't wait tell Nov. 2 to come. My other games are going to collect dust. I see me playing it right up to the GT6 release date and I might not own a PS4 until GT6

On that site that's linked in the article, the last two pages have the history of some of the cars. I wonder if that's what's in the book in the deluxe edition? I may just have to upgrade my pre-order if it is.

It's just something that you feel out over time.
The best thing for GT newbies is to race with a car you've owned, or at least driven, before. If you own a car, you've probably thought to yourself "What would it be like if I just redlined this machine as fast as it could go?"
The only safe way to find out is to try it in Gran Turismo. :)
The novelty of using a car you're intimately familiar with IRL can keep you playing, and eventually you'll get used to how the cars handle.
Plus, adding Turbo Kits or Superchargers to cars you've owned makes it interesting as well. There's really SO MUCH to love about this series that adjusting to the hyper-realistic controls is well worth the time.
I only say this for your benefit, Alienange. :)
If you'd rather give the game a pass, that's fine too.

I think my main issue is that if GT is truly "hyper-realistic," then wouldn't my car turn when I push left or right even if I was going too fast? Wouldn't the realistic thing be my car rolling and not just plowing ahead in a straight line?
I doubt I'm the only gamer who's screamed "TURN!" at a GT game.

Anyone who has went too fast in their car can attest to the fact that if you try to turn while going too fast.....well....the wheels turn but the car doesn't. You will just slide right into a wall....or tree....or another car.....or depending on the vehicle you could turn but as soon as you do...flip city baby.
Gran Turismo is THE BEST Racing Sim ever made. If you want to drive way too fast and still be able to turn, slam into a wall and maintain speed, pick up some previous versions of Need For Speed. That is arcade racing at its best.
The rest of us will be driving like a car was meant to drive.

It's just so beautiful! T_T
I officially don't even care about the cockpit thing anymore (which, by the way, was confirmed in that link, Cockpit Views have been prepared for only the 200 Premium cars).

I'm super excited for this game, but due to my new rule of not buying anything at release, I'll be waiting a while to get this one. Not that I don't think it'll be worth $60, but I'll enjoy it just as much if I wait a while and pay less.
Plus I have so many other games to play right now it's ridiculous.

This is the only GT game I need 'till ps4, it's packed! blu-ray really is the difference of it all.
I love the fact that there's so much in this game. You don't have to feel inferior or anything. The game will have so much that you can choose to be whatever you want to be.
For example, there's rally, you can be the best rally racer amongst your friends. Or you can be the best road racer. You can also be the best Nascar or Kart racer. The one who's great with classic cars. The one's who's best with the LeMans cars, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc
Wow....I just can't freaking wait for the Game of the year!
