Woah...Castlevania Is Like, Shadow Of The Colossus 2
We've seen plenty of gameplay footage for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, but the latest, taken by Ripten, almost made me shriek like a little girl. ...I said "almost," damnit.
Most anyone who owned a PS2 and could appreciate a certain amount of artistic impression and originality likely adored Shadow of the Colossus. In the game, you had control over what appeared (and felt) like a regular dude, who had to clamber around on these giant titanic bosses, utilizing stamina and strategy to locate the weak spots. Sometimes, the mammoth creature would try to shake you off and you had to hold on tight, remember? Yes? Then watch this:
See? There are even sensitive spots, times when the Goliath will actually attempt to grab you, and the only thing missing is the Stamina meter when attempting to hang on. I've always dreamed of a sequel to SotC but now I'm not so sure I need it. It's right here. Of course, we don't want you to get the wrong idea; there will be platforming, puzzles, and plenty of hack 'n slash combat ala God of War and Dante's Inferno; it won't all be about tackling Titans. In fact, there are probably only a few.
But still, the influence is obvious and we are not complaining. By the way, we're also pretty sure Halford's bad-ass vocals in this video aren't actually in the game, as we heard no sound effects coming through the track. Unless of course, they just enhanced the music...it fits, certainly.

Words can't describe the satisfaction and beauty of watching a colossi fall!!!
BTW, it took me over 2 hours to defeat the final boss. That thing was freaking insane!!!!
But my patience and perseverence were well rewarded. Gotta love Shadow of the Colossus.
Also Chaos Theory X, feel free to check out FAQs or Youtube videos if you really don't know how to defeat it or even get on it.
Try looking for bushy or furry patches around their feet, or a ledge behind their leg you can ride your horse towards and leap onto.
Speaking of horses, SotC had the best horse controls of any game, until Red Dead Redemption came out.
.... still waiting Team ICO. Last Guardian and ICO/SotC Collection on PS3 had better be worth the wait!!!!

You have to get behind it, get on the left leg, stab him there one or two times, then continue climbing to the lower back, you recover stamina there.
Then climb up through the back of it all the way to the head, and right at the center of it, stab him twice, and you got him.
I'm actually playing it again so do tell if you need any help with it.

SotC wasn't just about defeating collosi. It was about immersing yourself in a desolate world mostly empty of life, with just you, a horse and your sword.
This doesn't have the same artistic flair of SotC. Team ICO created a beautiful masterpiece that was better to experience, not just play.
SotC was all about creating a feeling of emptiness and loneliness, making the Colossus battle that much more satisfying when you reached them. AND the slow movement, grip metre, graphics (for the PS2) and lateral thinking that went into defeating each one made for the best gaming experience on the PS2.

My main point is often times these gigantic bosses are quite often easy to defeat. Even the Dragon God on Demon's Souls was way too easy, that could have been an epic battle put it was done horribly imo, is one of that game's few downfalls
Resistance 2 had some boss fights like that but they were more scripted than anything. it looked cool but no challenge. Same with GoW3, really cool looking battle but it wasn't challenging.
SoTC, playing it for the first time years ago, just gave a more satisfying feeling of slaying a giant

That being said, however, I'm not one to let difficulty get in the way of my enjoyment of the game. I struggled through God of War and God of War II when I first played them on the normal setting, so when God of War III came out, I had used my past knowledge and experience of the previous two games to blow through the third one in a very satisfying way, simply because it worked with the narrative being told. Kratos had been hammered about by the Gods for over a decade, it was time for retribution, and I took great glee in destroying the holy life out of them. But that's me, and that's not everyone else's experience with the games.
For myself, and people like me (if they exist) a game's difficulty doesn't hender or even enhance their enjoyment of it. As a kid, I loved the Ninja Gaiden series, and it was hella hard. As an adult, I dislike it greatly, 'cause despite the challenging nature of the new 3D series, the difficulty doesn't pay off with a narrative that's satisfying nor rewarding.
All in all, I have no idea what I'm trying to say, 'cause I just lost my train of thought.
So... ignore this ramble. Haha.

What I find hilarious about 3D Castlevanias (this one not included yet) is that other game franchises did a better job of capturing the vibe and feel of the 2D 'Vanias in a 3D world than they did. God of War, etc. I remember the first time I played the original God of War and it reminded me of the old school 'vania games. The first one a little bit, Simon's Quest and Castlevania III a bit more; and even a little of Symphony of the Night. While all the 3D 'vanias were just bland and uninteresting.
I never did finish III. :(

Now, still not a sure buy but I'll keep a close watch on this.
That sure looks awesome but......maybe it's only me cause I just felt that there's this different feeling from SOTC and I don't know how to explain.
Only explanation is that the feeling for SOTC was better.

If I could get a used Shadow of the Colossus copy for 30 bucks, should I get it?
Also(ok, second question), does anybody know if SotC has any problems on the 60 gig PS3? Cuz Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 work just fine, but SSX 3 or sumthin, the one after tricky...keeps freezing up.

You could wait for the HD remake, but getting the PS2 version gets you the original experience. Up to you.

Not sure where you'd be getting it from, but just as a starting point,
Gamestops in the US are asking $19.99 for a used SOTC
And if they can even get an ICO in on a trade-in, ICO still has a crazy going rate of $39.99 (due to it still being in great demand & very few are traded in???)

I didn't like that music for the video. I don't mind Heavy Metal, in fact Bon Jovi is my favorite! It just seemed distracting and out of place.
I'm sure the game will have an epic symphony orchestra score....like the movies.
Just kidding about Bon Jovi.

It really bugs the hell out of certain people. Most of the time its phrased as "This game is a rip-off of God of War."
Whenever I hear GoW references, to me it sounds like "And then, there was this one time, at band camp.."
No offense, but it just gets annoying.
