PSN Update: Vanquish, Game Sales, Castle Crashers
Some weeks, the PlayStation Network update is just plain boring. But then again, you can't expect anticipated goodness 52 times a year.
This particular week should prove appealing to all PlayStation 3 owners, though. Firstly, a whole lot of games have dropped in price - including the 9 from TikGames/Creat Studios - and you can stock up on a bunch of really entertaining titles. Secondly, a few big demos are now available: the first is R.U.S.E., the "one-of-a-kind" RTS that lets you "control the action from the heart of the battlefield," and the second is the hotly anticipated Vanquish. As of now, you can test out the Velocity Attack demo and see if Platinum's rapid-fire new action extravaganza is your cup of tea. Remember, it's slated to launch on October 12 and we've been seeing a lot of the game lately, thanks to a bunch of trailers and videos. Thirdly and finally, the award-winning Castle Crashers is available to purchase on the PSN this week, and that's a major addition to the Network's library. If you're not convinced, you can always go for the free trial before springing for the full game, which has a price tag of $14.99.
Yeah, there are plenty of reasons to log on this week. By the way, we should have our Vanquish hands-on impressions within the next day, so stay tuned for that.

The demo is super smooth too. Using the PS3 paid off this time around for Platinum. Zero screen tearing FTW!

And I liked the Castle Crashers demo, it was pretty cool, I'm probably gonna get it myself.

I played through the demo once, but I've spent more time, overall, with the 360 version (I've had it since this morning).
The ONLY difference I can tell is in the FMV. Either it's my TV producing better color, or the PS3 FMV has a distinctly more vivid image during cutscenes. 360's FMV still doesn't look bad, not like Gears of War or nothing.
Concerning the gameplay graphics. Initially, I thought I'd see a LOD (level of detail) discrepancy between the two, but alas, both versions scaled object detail according to distance, shadows included.
Sadly, they both appear to be using a blur effect, that gives the game this un-focused look about it. The effect also destroys texture clarity and fine separation between colors. On my Bravia HDTV the vibrance of color definitely makes the game look less dull and washed out.
Ultimately, until the final game releases, the two demos are remarkably similar. Even down to the slight hiccups in frame rate between scripted events, or sudden voice dialogue for the narrative.
A far better multi-plat than Bayonetta.

its better than what i was expecting, was impressive how much visual effects they have going onscreen at once, sparks, fire, bullets looks like battle ninja robots!
but, well, this was suppose to be a whole level so i was expecting it to be long.
since when do whole levels last for 10 minutes?
still wont be getting it, enslaved has that slot triple booked!
now, NT, a enslaved demo please!!!!!!!!!!
