Control The Necromorphs In Dead Space 2 Multiplayer

Although it still won't be the prime focal point, multiplayer aficionados should get something original from Dead Space 2.

The original remains one of the very best games of the generation, and we're counting on nothing less than brilliance when the sequel arrives next year. The developers will also be implementing online multiplayer this time around but up until now, we didn't have any details...how would they do it? Would there be a bunch of Isaacs running around in competitive multiplayer? Nah. As EA revealed at the annual GameStop conference in San Antonio, players will control the Necromorphs against "standard soldiers" and vicey versey, and that's only a hint of the complete multiplayer presentation. By the way, if you pre-order the game at GameStop, you can net a Rivet Gun and the downloadable Dead Space: Ignition, so that should be enough incentive. Won't it be totally cool running around with those Necromorphs? It's like Alien vs. Predator almost!

This multiplayer could definitely separate itself from other options out there, and that's a good thing. But Dead Space 2 is going to rule in just about every way, so we're not worried in the slightest.

Leave it to Visceral to bring the greatness. Though I don't expect to be doing much with the multiplayer, like you say the game is a lock. BTW, do we have a release date? I forget. Lots of time is already spoken for this year ya know? But survival horror fans must own DS, even if you aren't big into sci fi.

But now that this is about done, they can get to work on Dante's Inferno 2 right?

January 25.

I personally don't care about MP. Dead Space is all about the feeling of being alone in absolute terror and overcoming the evil that lurks in the darkness. I prefer my survival horror as a single player experience.

Besides the L4D series.

L4D doesn't count as survival/horror. It's just an FPS with zombies.

Play the game with 3 other friends with mics boarded up in a 2 story house during a thunderstorm with hundreds of zombies coming from every direction and it starts to feel like survival horror.

But yes, I will agree it's a FPS at heart with a dash of the apocalypse.

"...all about the feeling of being alone in absolute terror and overcoming the evil that lurks in the darkness" and that you "prefer my survival horror as a single player experience."

;)

I agree with that. Survival/horror absolutely MUST be experienced alone for it to be effective. Hell, that's the point of the genre.

Ben, perhaps this explains why RE5 had absolutely NO scary moments whatsoever.

Cool that Gamestop is actually giving a free downloadable companion game with DS2, instead of it's usual stupid in-game trinkets & skins.

It's about time they smartened up.

Actually I think the rivet gun is the only exclusive to gamestop and ignition comes with it no matter where you pre-order.

I thought the only way you get a bonus game is if you buy the limited edition version. I'll definitely buy it from gamestop if this is true. Thanks for the heads up BikerSaint.

The game that comes with the limited edition is Extraction which is a remake of the Wii game so it uses the Move controller and is an on rails game. Ignition is something else.

Wait, so you're telling me that my preorder for Dead Space 2 at gamestop will give me Extraction AND Ignition? Holy sh*t what the F*CK as they say in Killzone 2. Really? I think I feel a bit dizzy.

LOL, Can't take any credit for that.

It wasn't my heads-up, I just read it above in Ben's article, was all.

Loved the first game and this will definitely be a D1P for me. Between the main game, extraction, and ignition there is no doubt it will be worth it for me. This games Move support has me sold on that as well.

So how does a Necromorph play? Very fast with some hella powerful melee moves I imagine. Well, I think it's clear that DS(squared) is going to be all sorts of awesome, given the precedent set by the original. Also, given EAs recent track record, I can't really imagine the SP suffering too much as a result of the inclusion of MP.
"There's no help coming."
Peace.

Haha! This game is gonna be so awesome! The single player's gonna take the spotlight but multiplayer is gonna be it's own beast as well! I love Visceral! Necromorphs ftw...or maybe not, that wouldn't end well. Especially with all those religious fanatics out there, they'd think it was a sign from God to surrender our self-conscience and sex for split jaws and bony blades.

Definite pre-order, just waiting for them to list the version with Extraction included. Dead Space was probably my favorite game of all time. Don't really care about the multiplayer, I'll be too busy playing through the single-player multiple times and then trying out Extraction with the Move.

Currently replaying the first one for the platinum.

The sounds in this game are fantastic. My dog got scared 3 times last night and finally just left the room.

Impossible is kind of hard at first because you don't have much ammo, but once you get stasis you can freeze enemies and bust them up with melee attacks. Saves lots of plasma energy :)

Once you get past that hurtle it's not bad.

agreed Jack.

Still hard as hell so far though. But the devs put a save station every 50 feet in that game.

@ Slim

There are certain game series I don't worry about anymore. Series like Uncharted, LBP, Dead Space, Killzone; for the most part I feel like the developers have well...developed a certain comfortableness with the games they are creating despite the high quality nature of each sequel. That's why when it comes to these games I'm already assured that the developer has my best interests in mind and will create a well-polished game. So with Dead Space I'm really looking forward to the multiplayer component because it's something they have finally decided to dip into. I know the single player will rock hard and this is really where it's at for me but multiplayer can't hurt especially a company that focuses greatly on the single player experience.

You just know the Necromorph players will be able to navigate the ventilation system while the brave "standard soldiers" are confined to rooms and hallways.

Sounds like a hairy good time if you ask me.
