Rock Band 3 Lets Players Export RB2 Tracks For Free
Sure, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock hits first but there are plenty of loyal fans for both huge franchises.
Rock Band 3 is due out in October and a recent RockBandAide interview with Harmonix's John Drake should be of interest to ardent followers. Feel free to listen to the entire interview if you wish; the most important tidbit is that RB3 will allow you to export RB2 tracks for free. This was expected, as RB2 let you do this in regards to the original Rock Band but still, it's good info to have. Then there's something else to take from that talk: the now-standard price for extra songs via downloadable content is $1.99. However, Drake stated that any songs for Rock Band 3's new Pro Mode will likely be more expensive than that, although he wouldn't provide a number. He admits that Harmonix has plenty more work to do on those tracks, and they don't intend to increase the cost of the regular tracks, which should remain at $2 apiece. If you aren't familiar with Pro Mode in RB3, let's just say that it'll require some definite dedication and patience.
The new Guitar Hero may invariably win the sales war but it's highly probable that Rock Band 3 will perform well on the charts.

Avenge Sevenfold has Afterlife, Almost Easy, Critical Acclaim, Bat Country, Scream, Seize the Day, Nightmare, and Beast and the Harlot on disc on RB3.
Disturbed has Down With the Sickness, Indestructible, Inside the Fire, Perfect Insanity, Stupify, The Game, Stricken, Meaning of Life, Asylum, The Animal, and Another Way to Die.
Guitar Hero:
Avenged Sevenfold has Bat Country, Beast and the Harlot, Afterlife, Almost Easy, and Scream.
Disturbed has Stricken, Indestructible, and Down with the Sickness.
So with GH, you are missing a couple good Avenged Sevenfold songs, but you're really missing out on Disturbed.

If you're not interested in a game, don't read the article. You don't see me on a SSFIV article pronouncing that I won't be buying it because it's "trash" in which I have no interest and that Capcom shouldn't be making games unless they're what I want to play.
Rock Band is a PHENOMENALLY good game made by a developer who cares about doing things the right way.

With the introduction of pro mode, I get to play actual songs on a real guitar, while still enjoying the fun of RB. Now, I can't play guitar very well at all, but this will be one way for me to both learn more, and get better. Drums will be fun again for a challenge on even some of the easier songs, and with the cymbals actually being there, I'll actually be able to transfer my hand movements to a real drum set.

What you've said about pro mode and your ability to play the game on real instruments does make me not want to bash these games anymore but rather congratulate you on what clearly makes you happy.

Playing guitar/bass in RB is roughly analagous to the real thing, though greatly simplified, and playing drums and singing (and likely keyboards) is almost identical. And in Pro Mode, all are identical.
