Devil's Third: A New Gaming Paradigm

Okay, so it's a long ways off. So what? The game is insane enough to warrant some attention this early on, right?

According to Electronic Theatre, Valhalla Game Studios and THQ have said Devil's Third is slated for release in 2012. An over-the-top third-person shooter with Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive guru Tomonobu Itagaki at the development helm, the game turned a lot of heads when it was revealed earlier this year. Itagaki left Team Ninja in 2009 and maintains the "bad boy of gaming" label; this is also his first time working with the PlayStation 3. On his blog, he said:

"In the past, I created four unique games – Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, DOA Xtreme and NG Dragon Sword. Thus, this announcement will be the fifth all-new project in my lifetime. I don’t know if that number is large or small, but I know as a fact that every one of those announcements was a presentation of a new gaming paradigm from me to all of you."

Devil's Third is also Valhalla's debut title and if you somehow missed the big reveal some months back, here's the E3 trailer that got everyone talking.

I just find it interesting that he outright calls this game his "next masterpiece"

Well, to gain fame and recognition you need a thing. His thing seems to be over the top statements and grandiose behaviour.

My thing is shaving kittens and arranging them in precarious positions and taking photographs. I'm the Anne Geddes of kittens.

No Peter Molyneaux just flat out over estimates his hardware's ability in most cases. He is a very talented man and has made brilliant PC games and then he went about making games for Microsoft home consoles and started making claims before he knew how far he could actually go when he had to work in specific parameters.

On PC you can do things top notch and then people just scale to fit their hardware, with consoles you have to tailor to specifics.

i remember when they introduced milo and kept saying that its the most interactive game out there or something to that effect, memory is foggy. but then they said that milo isnt actually a game, it probably wont even come out, hahaha.

i was watching qore and in the interview with the head guy of ninja theory, he said that gaming is way behind in the story telling aspect. i guess he missed uncharted 2 and heavy rain.

The game looks kind of interesting. I enjoyed Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, so who knows. I hope it has a demo.

....ven if he had made the greatest video game in the history of the world, I still hate it when someone is so full of themself.

Hey Tomonobu Itagaki, do you even know there's a huge difference between the words "passionate" and "conceited"????

Nope.... apparently not!!!!!!

You really need some schooling on becoming a class act, so just watch your much better, and wiser peer, Kojima.
His actions alone will teach you what the words "passion & class" really mean.

No way, don't take away the man's flair. Just look at some pictures of him, he looks like a flipping rock star and he is a nerd game designer. It's fantastic. Not saying I like his attitude or I agree with him, but he is definitely a character and adds a certain feel to the industry.

Just think of him as the loud mouth guy in high school who had tons of friends and everyone looked up to him and you notice one day ten years down the road that he is serving you a latte in the morning on your way to the office.

And besides, if you make him shape up to be a class act that means I have to give up my Anne Geddes of kittens persona. And that will happen the day I stop playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure i.e. Never.

I enjoyed the demo for Ninja Gaiden Sigma, but haven't played either full game. And never played a DOA game of any description. I'll watch the trailer tomorrow, but for now I'll say that it seems like another Bayonetta or Wet. Flashy, over-the-top action for little more than the sake of it.

I've never seen or met the man, so I have no idea what he looks like.

But if he ever knocks on my door to alert me of his awesomeness, I'll direct him over to your house so he can relay all his true greatness & worldwide splendor to your awaiting eardrums, LOL

As for myself, I'd rather just chamber a couple of shells, while yelling at his big ego to keep AT LEAST 5,899 F'ing yards away from the beginning edge of my yard
(but he can certainly leave a signed copy of "Devil's Third" in care of my local post office for me).

I like this guy. he has b@lls unlike alot of u....& dont give me that "b@lls but no brain" It takes brains to have b@lls...over the top is a better view then under a bridge....IMHO

hes one of the very few developers i have infinite respect for.
he may be a little cocky, but he has a real true passion for games, and a real passion and love for his fans.
i cant wait till this is out, early 2012 apparently.
we need way more titles like this, only other 2 are wet which was soooooooooo underrated and red steel 2 which was meh.

No interest in anything this guy does. I can remember him ranting and raving about how horrible Tekken was as a series, and then his egotistical praise over his own fighter, Dead or Alive, and how it was the "ultimate" fighting game.

Dead or Alive has been a joke since day one. It's only redeeming value was the independent physics engine for both left and right breasts of the female fighters, and that's just a small jump away from softcore porn.

There's cockiness and there's egotism. This guy is full of the later.
