PS3 Owner Facts: 40% Won't Date Anti-Gaming Girls

Ah, fun facts from surveys. Sony must've received a fair amount of entertainment from these replies.

The results are in concerning trends of PlayStation 3 owners, and it's clear that the majority of PS3 gamers take their hobby seriously. Most would give up social networking sites, fantasy sports leagues, and even their cell phone for a year before they gave up their games, and 30% of PS3 owners boast double-digit libraries. The most popular first-party character turned out to be Kratos from the acclaimed God of War franchise, although Nathan Drake from the equally stellar Uncharted series was a close second. It's also interesting that 33% of PS3 gamers don't eat anything while playing due to a "need to concentrate," although we would probably recommend healthier snacks than chips and pizza. Lastly, 40% absolutely will not get romantically linked with someone who impedes their gaming, with 23% saying they won't let their significant other "set limits" on their hobby time.

It'd be interesting to see how people respond to that. It could be viewed as selfish or it could be seen as confident independence. Or, you could turn it around and ask yourself if you place limits on her hobbies, like shopping...or gardening...or whatever the hell women do. No stereotypical offense intended. ;)

Women who don't game and women who hate games are two different types for me. So long as she doesn't hate gaming, it's okay in my book.

Thankfully my woman enjoys her games enough to have her own PS3 and 360 to -not- impede with my gaming...or more like to not have me impede with her gaming.

I love gaming. Have since I was young, but I would never pass on a relationship with a woman for my hobby.

That is extremely selfish in my book.

She loved the games on her 360 in it's earlier years and some of the XBL features, but overall did not like her 360. She hated the loud fans, the controller, the absolute fear of it breaking down and scratching discs.

Her PS3? It's her baby. Even if she was a 360 fanboy, I'd still love her.

I gotta say though,. I am still truly shocked by the phenomenon that is Facebook. I dabbled with it for a while, but all it does is steal your time. It produces little to nothing in return for that time. I stopped using it, and to be honest I haven't missed it at all, in fact I can't think of any reason to go back to it, at all.

Then again I don't text, and I don't Tweet (Twitter - I simply do not understand why it is so popular. Any time I have looked at it, it seems to be a pretty unbearable micro-blogging system that lets many people who have a compulsion to share ever fart of their day with the world, share. I know that some organizations and publications use Twitter, but I think that is more out of following a fashion than any perceived value-add.

I know that I am simply a luddite who hates all that is new though...

By the way, I just bought "The Magic Mountain" Yesterday and as soon as I finish this one book I'm reading, it will be next. Thanks for the recommendation way back, I had retinal detachment and could not read anything for a year...

I have a use of facebook. I have moved from all family and friends long ago and since have changed numbers, addresses, as well as friends and family. I use facebook to keep in contact with cousins, old high school friends, and the like.

The one thing I don't understand are the people who use it to play all of those flash games and to talk to people they see every day.

I probably would too, but the problem is that I read far too fast. If I'm reading solely for pleasure I can knock over most books in two days or less, while a game will usually last me at least a week. A bigger problem is that I absolutely despise the library here in town as they've got a very limited selection of books and there is no dedicated bookstore either.

to explain my comment. Most older people revere books as a source of entertainment, imagination, and inspiration. However unless you count Wii, nearly all of them have never played a videogame. Because of this they do not have an understanding of the media and do not percieve how we could get entertainment, imaginaton, and inspiration out of them. And when they see time and time agian how we choose videogames over their beloved books they tend to hold it against videogames that people are not reading.

That is why this is a reason alot of old people don't like videogames

My wife is definitely not a gamer, but she doesn't mind my need to unwind gaming. There are times she asks me to spend time with her instead of the games, but in all honesty, that's a completely fair thing to ask for. I definitely don't feel deprived of gaming.

That's just how it goes for the family man. My game time doesn't start till 10-11PM unless the wife heads to bed early... and alone.

And from the moment I get home till the kids are tucked in bed, I'm all theirs. I can play my games later, they're only kids once!

Well, a relationship is about the sacrifices you're willing to make for the other, as well as the things you can overlook. There's a happy medium to be found with the right kind of women, after all, there are bound to be some things she thoroughly enjoys that you could care less/not overly enthusiastic about.

However, with the right person, I think the timetables will naturally work themselves out. When I've been in actual serious relationships (not all are, and you know it pretty quickly), I found myself gaming less...but I still got in gametime.

Id give up games before I gave up music. My wife asked me if I would rather be blind or def if god forbid something terrible were to happen. I choose blindness. Can't give up those sweet guitar riffs, bass fills and booming vocals from Propagandhi. That goes for most of the music I listen too.

The wife doesn't set limits for me, rather I have to set them for myself. We work from home so it's was tough at first not turning the PS3 as soon as I woke up but we found a happy medium. Work till 3ish then eat, then game.

When I'm not rocking out of course.

My wife isn't a gamer but she does not impede or question my gaming time. I happen to be a very late night gamer so it doesn't interfere with anything.

@worldends, my wife has a ton of characters she designed and we have them turned into rubber stamps for scrapbooking and other crafts. We sell them on the Internet. :)

@Fluffer, Propagandhi has changed. A lot. They sound nothing like they used to. Potemkin City Limits and Supporting Caste are their two best and most recent records. Supporting Caste is especially good. They sound like a different band. You will be surprised I think.

What was the last record you listened to of theirs?

Playing games, or being able to watch NFL football? I would give up games for that, but thank goodness I don't have to. My Fiance tolerates my hobby since she has her scrapbooking, and she is a forty whiners fan and loves football. I just use the split screen feauture and make the NFL games the smaller box on the screen, albeit with no sound, but I can watch football without the sound. The games on the other hand...hmmm not so much.

My girl is more of a outdoor kind of babe. Hiking, Skydiving, Snowboarding, Camping... But she did dig Flower last week when I showed her and she did pretty good too. So far it seems she is neutral with the whole gaming thing but, you never know until things get really serious in the relationship.
For sure I would avoid getting serious with someone who hates on gaming.

My wife doesn't game. At all... LOL. And she's really not extremely fond of them. She doesn't hate them. She just couldn't care less about them. With work and two kids, it's hard to find time. LOL. I'm a dj/producer so music has to fit in somewhere as Jawknee sort of said. I love gaming but i'd give it up for all of the above. Family comes first always. With that being said. I game when my wife goes to work in the mornings and at night when they all go to sleep. Do music when my wife has the day off. Time management baby!!!LOL

My wife loves her NDS, but doesn't console game much. Apart from puzzle games. She does however really enjoy watching the big epic games. She's watched almost all the console GOW's start to finish, and she enjoyed watching SOTC almost as much as I enjoyed playing it. We still haven't done the Uncharted games yet though, on the list.

I actually had a sit down, Sopranos style, telling the woman to never intrude on my game time, i'm a reasonable man, but mess with my games, and i'm considering another lady! lol

Obviously, i wasn't that blunt and i assured her that if i had a child or something, gaming is cut (dare i say, unfortunately).
Luckily for me, my lady understands the importance of gaming and it's inspiration at times to my career.

Holy crap I just counted my collection, I've got 44 PS3 games! I dunno if I should be proud of that or disturbed by it. That's more than I ever had on PS2. Oh well, I'm single and don't want kids till I'm old so I can still get in about 2 hours per day.

I'd much rather have a good woman around, but since I go for that rare combination of nerdy and cool, my exes always gamed with me. Or if they didn't game with me they clung to me while I did.

I can't be eating while gaming, but you ain't gaming unless you have a soda nearby.

I already gave up on Social Networking, I get super annoyed when people actually contact me through facebook, but I'd hate to delete it because now and then my buddy wants me to check out some chicks we might meet.

I have about that many games on disc (not at home, so I can't count), plus a bunch of PSN games, and I'm mostly embarrassed by how few of them I've actually finished.

I'm not even asking for games for my birthday this year; that's how bad it is.

On topic, I'd give up any of the three things mentioned in the article in favor of gaming, if I used any of them in the first place. Books, not so much, though like World I don't read as often as I play games.

i hate it when people eat while playing games. my brother was playing star ocean 4 on the 360 and i was watching. i got so pissed off because he had to pause the game, take a bite, and continue. it just annoyed the hell out of me.

Erm... okay. Well, for starters my PS3 collection is sitting at 27 games and I plan on buying another 2 or 3 this weekend. I think that just about the only thing I would give up gaming for is an appendage. I think the better question for most people would be gaming or sex or alcohol.

As for the girls, I'm single at the moment, but it really wouldn't bother me, as long as she let me have a half hour or more every day. Seriously, to put your gaming habits that far ahead of a woman, or human interaction is just wrong. Oh well, I guess some people are weirder than me.

I don't think we should judge that 40% too harshly. As important as sex and relationships can be, sometimes it just isn't worth all the sh*t. When a game sucks you can turn it off. A b*tching woman has no off button.

(No offense to the females here, I'm sure guys are no picnic either.)

While playing MW2 online I once heard a guy's mom telling him to put the garbage out. Oh man, we razzed that guy. Funny they didn't include mothers in the survey.

Just counted. I have 35 PS3 games...that obviously doesn't count the ones publishers sent me that weren't worthy of staying in my collection. ;)

I've got 54 PS2, 38 PS1, 11 Xbox 360 (soon to be 12 with Halo: Reach), 14 Xbox, 15 SNES, 8 GameBoy (original, baby!), and 1 PC...all I need is Heroes III Complete. :)

I'll count my games later and add to this list. It is quite high I think I am guessing it will be higher than Worlds at 44 lol. I had them on my bad last night as I was looking for agame and couldnt spot it so I had them spread out the bed was pretty much covered. Yikes.

Anyway I am single at the minute and all my friends online who are married have embargo nights to spend with thier significant others. They always say to me your lucky you get to game anytime you want. I like it like that.

I would never let anything get in the way of my gaming hobby. It is my way of relaxing after a hard day/crap day at work etc.

I still go out with my mates drinking chatting up women etc. I come home an fire up the console unless im pretty wasted then I just pass out lol, unless i've pulled then it's a different matter.

So I'll motor along enjoying the single life for the moment as you know it will come to an ened you never know when you will meet that someone special. If she don't like my gaming habbits or is not a gamer herself then tough she is not the one for me. :)
