Buy Refurbished PS3, Get God Of War III For Free

So maybe you're a little behind. Or maybe your old PS3 died and you need another one, and you never got a chance to play one of the generation's best.

Some gamers tend to shy away from refurbished systems and in all actuality, they have valid reasons. I distinctly recall working at EB when they started with the refurbished PS2s and those things were horrid; we actually got to the point where we would ignore policy and replace busted systems with new ones. The refurbished ones just inevitably came back the next day, or so it seemed. However, the good news is that the PS3 refurb situation is much better, and you can really benefit if you want to pick up a used PS3 from GameStop: one source has turned us onto the deal, and we've confirmed it with a few local GameStops. It's simple- buy a refurbished PS3 and get God of War III for free. The cool part is that all PS3 SKUs are indeed included in this limited-time deal, so you won't be forced to get the standard PS3 Slim. If there's another available, go for it...you'll still get the game.

That isn't too bad of a deal. We're talking about what may be the front-runner for Game of the Year, after all.

Not a bad deal. If one takes care of one's "fatty ps3" it will most likely last many years.

It's just a matter of vacuuming it well.

One of the most stunningly beautiful game I have ever seen/played.

my fatty sits on a ledge in front of a window fan that sucks all the heat out of the room. other wise it gets way to hot in here but it also keeps the ps3 cool. i keep it cleaned up but its 6 feet off the ground also.

MY original 60gb died one me twice. First the blue ray drive went, Sony repaired it and sent it back then a month later i got the YOLD. they eventually sent me a refurb. Everytime i turn it on i fear its going to croak.

I'm right there with Jawknee. I've had two YLoDs (the second fortunately came within the 90-day repair warranty). Now, I'm totally gun shy. I don't want to lose my baby again.

The good news: Sony were able to repair it both times, so I didn't have to buy new systems and inflate the sales totals.

Hmm, I am looking for a second PS3, but as I don't live in the uSofA this will be a difficult one for me.

I was trawling eBay yesterday to try and pick something up. There is a good one for $200... original 60GB and in mint condition. I may pick it up... Seems like a good deal GameStop has got going there across the pond...

Q!

Sounds awesome if you can find a 60 gigger. But my 80 gigger (now 500 gigger) handles most of my PS2 games and I got the old PS2 if I need the others so no worries.

This will probably be decent deal for people who want extra systems in-house. I may be one of those people eventually.

Also worth noting is that not all 60 gig skus contained the emo-chip. The later models (post feb'07 IIRC) also used software emulation.

Not quite true. Only PAL 60 GB systems didn't have both PS2 chips (and all of them didn't); any 60 GB system sold in NA has full BC.

The Euro 60 GB systems were like the original NA 80 GB system (e.g., the MGS4 SKU): partial emulation due to only having the PS2 GPU.

Hm. i did forget about the PAL versions not having it, but I'm fairly certain i read somewhere that Sony was phasing out the emo-chip from the 60gig models over here in the US...that from 2007 and onward, any 60gig skus manufactured would come with only software emulation. I also know that 2007 was pretty much the last year that 60gig skus were to be manufactured.

It was a fun game, but it's no game of the year. Titan mode was NOT fun.

After playing GOWI and II, I was disappointed in III, it had the fancy graphics and the brutality down pat but the levels were basically just a small contained dark area. Blahh, I couldn't even finish it the second time through.

From what I've read you were much happier with Dante's. Good on you man. GoWIII to me was a great experience. But as a game that I would want to play over and over? Not really.

Graphics of the year? For sure.
Presentation of the year? Without a doubt.
Game of the year? Mmmm... top three.

I concur somewhat regarding GOW3. It didn't have the sprawling level/puzzles-design and variety of GOW2, which Dante's Inferno surprisingly does mirror more so (in my opinion so far, as i'm currently playing DI). The development of the game seemed to be more focused on fitting in the huge assets, than just making large levels.

And, I have to say, the level assets of GOW3 are the most mind-blowing one's I've seen so far in a game, and that counts for something in my estimation. I didn't dethrone Uncharted 2, but for 2010, it did surpass my favorites of this year (ME2, and RDR). i'm sure, though, both RDR and ME2 will soak up the larger number of GOTY's across the internet.

Just finished DI. Liked it a lot. More comparable to GOW2, than to GOW3, although to many, GOW2 was the best of the trilogy, so that could be a good thing to many.

I'd give the nod to Red Dead Redemption. Better story, varied gameplay and technologically brilliant.

God of War III was my favorite in the series. I liked the story in II better but i liked everything else in III better. Gameplay, graphics, weapons, magic, items etc.

i want another ps3 but i would rather get a slim only for the reason that the new slims sync with my stereo receiver. i would be able to then control my ps3 through my stereo receiver with my logitech harmony one. i own the collectors edition with pandoras box so no use for this special. im willing to bet they got a LOT of trade ins on that game. no mp and people will get bored with it. there will be no new content for that game most likely.

getting a free AAA game with your ps3 at the time of purchase is always a win.

Not being from USA and therefore never having been to a Gamestop my following theory probably wouldnt hold much water but from what I can gather, aren't Gamestop pro M$? This offer therefore means they [Gamestop] get to line their pockets from the used sales but at the same, keeping Sonys new sales numbers down. This is probably a bit outlandish but just a thought.

That sounds like a good deal if you can get a warranty on the refurb.

GSgives you a 30 day warranty on the refurby's.

But you can extend it for a year for less than $50(not sure what the actual price is now since the Slim's caused price-drops on all the fattie models.

BTW, I've bought a lot of re-furbished consoles & electronic components over the year, & I've never had a problem with any of them, plus they usually wind up 1/3 of the cost & give the same warranty as if it was new & unused.

For example, many years ago, Samsung put out a $300+ VHS/CD/DVD/ unit, with full memory card readers too.

Around the same time, Value City(now defunct) had 7 of them as refurbs for only $59.99.
Well, I bought 2 of them and I'm happy to say both are still going strong to this day, and it's got to be 8 or 9 years now.

And with that $480 I saved, I was able to put it towards my gaming collections.
