Team ICO Collection Expected In "March Or April"

Everyone wanted HD productions of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus for the PlayStation 3. Well, they're very likely coming...but when and for how much?

Well, we may have part of the question answered. According to Eurogamer, the hotly anticipated - albeit unofficial - Collection featuring both PS2 classics will launch in "March or April next year and cost around £24.99." The Collection has been spotted and mentioned in numerous places, including on Wal-Mart's website over the weekend and in fact, it'll be available to pre-order in UK stores "in the next few days." Wal-Mart had it listed in this country with an April 2011 release and an accompanying price tag of $39.82. So for now, we'll assume the Team ICO Collection will be here in April for $40 but for more details, we should wait to see what Sony says at TGS this week. After the popularity that was the God of War Collection, and the supremely loyal following enjoyed by ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, such a remastering makes perfect sense.

We'll likely get the official unveiling in a few days time but for now, we're plenty excited. Two of the most artistic games in history, going all gorgeous in high-definition... 'drool' Remember, though, this isn't a remake with fully redone visuals; they're not overhauling the graphics like you'd expect from the FFVII remake that's coming.

If i remember right, these two artsy games used a lower res than the norm that worked to produce part of it's trademark, nearly surreal, look. The art assets were produced with this in mind. I hope a super pristine res doesn't create a polarizing disparity that may affect the uniformity of it's visual presentation. Who knows, maybe they'll add a grain filter of sorts to blend the image.

Perhaps, I'm being overall concerned about something that may turn out to not be a problem at all.

I will, however, greatly appreciate a more steady frame-rate(SoC got a little chuggy at times).

sorry Temjin001 ..im afraid youre a lil wrong there. as I said in my later post over there.. Im pretty sure Ico had some sort of upscaling in the secret menu, you could at least clean the noise up, plus SotC most certainly had a progressive scan mode, which made it look sweet... now remaking these in HD should not only be a fairly easy job if you know what you're doing.. but I would say it going to look awesome.

but I agree with what youre saying about the 'feel' if the game, we dont want it too clean!! I assume a lot of the techniques for the last Guardian may be used in doing these two games.. perhaps. because that (from what I saw months ago) looked liked they hadn't forgotten to keep it looking like an Team Ico game.

dillonthebunny, you do know that a progressive signal and 1280x720 res are two very different things. Running a game in progressive scan, or any kind of video upscaling, is not the same as a major boost in pixel output.

My former sentiment is more of one of curiosity. It's was pretty easy for me to visualize how GoW would look in HD--and it looked very nice, indeed. But these two games, Ico and SoC, cause me to ponder how they'll reproduce with a very pristine presentation. I guess the only way I can try this message differently would be like going from a looser painting medium to a tighter more controlled one. Sure the tighter one looks sharper, but will some of the emotional affect be different because of it.

I'm sure however they'll end up looking, they'll look better than before--I do plan on buying this unique collection. But just maybe the overall effect will feel different than it did for GoW.

Damnit Ben now I am going to get my hopes up for a TGS announcement for FFVII.. again.

Oh well.. this Team ICO collection thing is pretty cool too. I don't own either of these games so it would be nice to get them in HD.

I think it's going to happen too Ben, just as soon as they fire Wada, or he figures out a way to wrestle the rights away from Sony and release it multiplatform.

I really think that's been the hold up on this particular remake. Wada saying something like "We can't do a remake until we can reach everyone in the western market". Just seems the mentality over there.

imo this for me is bigger than any FFVII remake.

two of the best games ever made coming back in HD, tho Ico had that secret menu that had some up scaling didn't it, and SotC had that HD mode too... but im sure they will look much better with the face lift

FFVII remake is the dream of dreams for the hardcore RPGer. The only thing that I see in our way is Wada. As for ICO/Colossus deal. Oh Yeah!!

I liked FFVII, don't get me wrong, plus at the time it came out for the psx.. it was an awesome game, still is. but im enjoying FFIX more recently.

obviously I would snap up the remake FVII in a heartbeat, too right!

but completing Ico and SotC, the deep meanings of the game, what an awesome impossible journey it was.. damn I could talk about those games for hours.. I just clicked with it far more than i did with FFVII. but then I guess I was older when I played Ico and SotC, so maybe my perception and needs had changed. don't forget this is all personal opinions and not fact for all...

anyway, are we even sure that a FFVII remake is on the way? im sure they have toyed with it, making demo's etc... but any cold hard evidence its being made? I know Ben has said its coming, and no disrespect or anything Ben as i may of missed some post where you linked to a fact that its being made...

can't wait anylonger must have it now. thos two games were about all i had back during the Ps2 days along with GTA, Football and wrestling.

I'm more excited over this news than I was the GoW collection news. These two games are legendary in their ability to stimulate a sense wonder in a gamer's mind. SotC on my PS3 with HD graphics and trophies will be an experience I won't pass up.

As for the pipedream that is a FFVII remake, well, I'd be just as happy with an HD upgrade of the original. Then do VIII because that one was fantastic.

Im playing VIII again at the moment. Started playing it in my PSP then I moved it to my PS3. Went right back to my PSP. Doesn't look so bad on a small screen.

Cant wait to play ICO, im currently playing Shadow of the Colossus (im in the 4th colossus, the one that look like a horse) but is starting to get annoying of how trick him.

I hope they redo the textures of ICO... They are horrible. But yes, ICO was a brilliant game, never managed to finish it though. I'll make sure to do that this time. and I've been wanting to play SotC for a long time, so it looks like I'll get my chance. Can't wait.

And, again with that remake? I thought you'd given up on it? Bah.

The textures were one of the things that were pretty well handled in the God of War Collection, so hopefully they'll be dealt with for the ICO Collection as well :)

I was thinking earlier about what an April release would mean for Trico, and I gathered that it would very likely be around about July of next year, given the difference in release date between the GoW set. So, if that's true, it gives us a drought game. WOO!

If transformers 2 is your favorite movie of all time this won't be the game for you; I'll just preface this comment with that.

The game is more than the sum of its parts. There is a (gripping) storyline which loosely relates to that of ICO and the gameplay is superb. However it is the comination of the two, along with the musical score and atmospheric setting that make the game great. It's an experience that you have to have yourself to truly understand it.

Yes, a very esoteric experience. However, if Transformers 2 is your favorite movie, then it's a game about finding these giant monsters, scaling their a$$es, then stabbing them to death by finding their weak spots.

ICO is fairly puzzle-based (but of the more platformy sort), and the SOTC Colossus battles can feel like puzzles sometimes.

If you were to take the amount of puzzles in a Final Fantasy game and double (or maybe triple) it, then you'd have ICO and SotC. They're well done, range in complexity, and engaging enough to the point where you'll have to draw all your resources and knowledge in order to beat the whole thing.

SOTC is an almost entirely cerebral experience. No stylish or flashy combos (save for shooting arrows from behind while riding your horse then standing and jumping off to climb), same weapon and move set at the end as you have in the beginning. And finding every boss (by reflecting sunlight off of your sword and riding in said direction while maneuvering around the terrain), then finding their weakspots, then finding how to scale them to strike them (whichever comes first), is what you will be doing all the time. So while you'll always be solving a puzzle, they're all cleverly and elegantly designed without being too obscure. They all have an "aha"/eureka moment, that reveals itself after a certain degree of persistence and observation. And while this is everything to the gameplay, as Kowhoho said, this isn't everything there is to experience, and for that, you have to check out for yourself. The game is an utter masterpiece.

Never played these games, but I know a few people have told me when these come out again to defently pick them up so day 1 preorder for me as well, I have seen a few trailers for the Last Guardian and man it looks amazing.

Have both games, truly 2 masterpieces here.

Finally people will get to play ICO. In my opinion ICO's better than SOTC, so it's good that some will finally get to play it.

IMO ICO has a better story while SOTC has better gameplay but I've always viewed them both as games that make the other even better (for obvious reasons if you've played both).

The ending to SOTC still leaves me numb.

that would be so cool im still yet to try these out.
add in proper HD, not that upscaled crap they did with the GOW collection honestly the games looked better running on my old 60GB ps3!
add in proper HD, move support, 3D, announce a release date for both this and the sly cooper collection and id be a TGS well spent!
nice to see sony are streaming it too, none of that crap they pulled at gamescom!
shame its only on their JP site though so it probably wont be translated.

I already have SOTC, & I just found a used copy of ICO which I still need, at my local Gamestop.
But since it's one of those "highly sought after, but hard to find" titles, GS wants $39.99 for their used copy.

So unless GS has another B2-G1 free deal real soon(& it's still in the place where I hid it), I'll have to wait till the HD collection comes out in order to get a original ICO copy much cheaper for my collection.

BTW, I'll still be wanting that HD remake too
