Dreamcast Reprint Program Portal Open For Business

This is more of a reminder than anything else, just because it's so freakin' cool.

We found out some time ago that Sega would be bringing Dreamcast classics to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace and now, the endeavor has been dubbed the Dreamcast Reprint Project, with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as targeted platforms. In fact, Sonic Adventure should release to both online services on September 29, and Crazy Taxi is en route as well. Now that they've opened a full portal site, perhaps the entire thing will really take off; it already includes several titles set for future re-release under the program. The Dreamcast's timing may have been bad but there are still hordes of fans out there, and they'll definitely appreciate the reemergence of Sega classics. When we heard PS1 classics would be hitting the PSN, we were all sorts of excited; as of now, we want to see what Sega will bring...we kindly ask for Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Soul Calibur, one of the NFL 2K games, and maybe Seaman. Any other requests?

We'll let you know when Sega officially unveils Dreamcast games headed for the PS3/360 in the future.

I remember when Crazy Taxi was a big hit. Now that kind of game play is thrown in as optional "side missions" in open world games.

Crazy Taxi could never just be thrown in another game as a side mission. Yea you have taxi sims, but none as ridiculous as CT.

The taxi missions in open world games couldn't hold a candle to Crazy Taxi. Come on who's with me on that? *waits patiently for someone to exclaim "Yea, Yea, Yea, Yea, Yeah!"*

Games have come along way since the simplistic, repetitive arcade game play of Crazy Taxi. I doubt you could release a game based on that alone anymore.

Oops. You’re right. It was supposed to come out on the PS2 as well but was cancelled. Either way, I have the DC version and the GC version.

“Skies of Arcadia, released in Japan as Eternal Arcadia, is a console role-playing game developed by Overworks for the Dreamcast and published by Sega in 2000. Skies of Arcadia Legends, a port, was released for the GameCube in 2002. Legends was also in development for the PlayStation 2; however, it was canceled shortly before the GameCube release.” – Wikipedia

I was never a fan, but I will say I played the HELL out of the three games I had for that system-

Soul Calibur
NFL 2K
Resident Evil: Code Veronica

Couldn't get into Arcadia and Shenmue, for some reason. And I was hardcore into PS1 RPGs at the time. Weird.

Forgot to mention my love for the System quickly left the building when the PS2 came out. The Dreamcast was like your favorite tasting gum, great for a short time.

There just weren't enough RPGs for the system to keep me interested and it turned into an Arcade-at-home box.

Sonic Adventure is out on XBLA today and PSN on the 21st.

Definitely the upcoming Crazy Taxi. Others include Skies Of Arcadia, Daytona U.S.A., Samba De Amigo with Move support and Sega GT.

I hope Sega will also release some games published by others. I didn't list a game like Power Stone or Soulcalibur since they were published by other companies like CapCom and Namco.

I don't think these are original games running in a Dreamcast emulator. They look more like the HD remasterings of PS2 games. The Japanese site for Crazy taxi (for example) makes specific mention that the game now has HD graphics.

Nice though they are, they are simply retreads.

exactly, excluding the RPGs which at least have a story I haven't played, Arcade games get old. Soul Calibur is Soul Calibur and I have SC2, SC3 and SC4. Unless I am simply being a completist, I have no need for SC from the Dreamcast.

Bring on the new games. Is this what the PS3 dev teams in Sega were doing while VC3 was being laid out for development? No wonder it's a PSP only deal.

I would even say that when you consider the fact that Crazy Taxi had a very wide distribution at arcades. I know this for a fact because many of the arcades I went to had game, plus they had many machines e.g. sit down and delux models. What's funny is the fact many arcades still have original out on the floor.

"How about the Powerstone and Virtual On games after Crazy Taxi?"

In regards to Power Stone, SEGA can't re-release the game because they don't even own the franchise to begin with. In regards to Virtual On, the games already been re-released on Xbox Live, however I really feel bad given the fact there are no Twin Sticks for them domestically; the japaneses ones being very expensive and impossible to get because of its rarity.

You're missing a ton of games. The Panzer Dragoon, Crazy Taxi, Virtual On, and Jet Set Radio games for some.

Good luck in finding Burning Rangers and Panzer Dragoon Saga. Just before the DC was taken off life support, Sega released like 1,000 copies of each here in the U.S. (I'm not sure if this number is correct, but the point is Sega released very few copies of these games here; so they are extremely rare.)

Orvisman,

Thanks for the info, much obliged!

BTW, I did list having Crazy Taxi in my Dreamcast collection above, & if I remember right,CT was the very first DC title I ever bought, LOL.

And although I don't have any DC copies of the other games you listed(so far), I consider myself lucky enough to have mint copies of Panzer Dragoon & Panzer Dragoon 2-ZWEL, but they're over in my Sega Saturn collection.

Yeah, I knew Sega had only dropped a small amount of titles here after they jettisoned the DC, but I wasn't aware of exactly which title they were. So I guess I'll take a look on some of the auction sites just to check out how high they're going for these days. But I'm probably in for some sticker shock, so I'll probably have till next year to buy them once a couple of my next big checks come in.

@ Biker,

Sorry. I've been getting everything wrong in this thread. Sega gave Panzer Dragoon Saga and Burning Rangers a limited release on the Saturn, not the DC as I stated above.

Sorry, my brain is not what it was since my stroke.

I saw CT on your list, but there was at least one sequel on the DC, maybe two.

I also forgot to mention the Powerstone games. Those games ar fun. I picked up the Powerstone collection for my PSP and love playing it on my commute.

Hey, do you import games, too, like I do? No collection is complete without the Japanese games that don't make it stateside.

About 5 years ago, I also was able to grab every bit of Dreamcast accessories at my local Gamestop when they found some brand new stashed away DC stock & decided to blow it all out. So I got it all for only $19 brand new
3 Dreamcast Controllers
1 Dreamcast Rumble Pack
19 Dreamcast VMU playable Memory Cards(15 Blue,1 Green, and 3 Regular Grey)
1 GameShark Game cheat Mem card, w/ CD, & VHS Tape
1 Dreamcast Computer Keyboard
1 Dreamcast 6 FT Extension Card

BTW, here's a pic of the Bass game complete with fishing pole controller right here on Ebay that sold for less than $20US this past July....

They could do something pretty neat with the Move and games like Space Channel 5.

How about using Move to interact with Seaman. lol I absolutely love that game. I have a copy with the special mic and everything :) I'm surprised nobody else really mentioned it. What I'd rather see is a new advanced version of Seaman for the consoles. And bring back Leonard Nemoy for the voice.

I never got a chance to play seaman cuz I couldn't find a mic, I'd love to have a go at it.

If you still have your system, I'd try ebay or I got one off Amazon.

I think Space Channel 5 has been announced as a Kinect game, so maybe a Move version is coming as well.

World,
yeah,
both Seaman or Front Alien Online were bundled with the mics, so if you didn't buy them new, most people were SOL because the trade-in crowd just weren't including their mic's when trading those two games in(hoping that some future games would be using their mic's).

Luckily for me, I bought both games new & still have my 2 mic's.
But I DO have to check Radio Shack to see if they have any same sized replacement foam balls for the end of the mic's since mine are starting to look aged.

Jet Grind is sweet, can't decide if that or Jet Set was better.

Something like Starlancer might be cool. Which reminds me - why the heck don't we have any Colony Wars games in the PSOne Classics? They could certainly come out with a new sequel for the PS3 - that would be freakin' awesome.

Panzer Dragoon Saga so I can play it without shelling out hundreds of dollars to buy the GD-Rom.
