Sony Japan Reveals 320GB PS3 Slim In Classic White

For some reason, the Japanese think Americans and Europeans don't like colors. You should see the available hardware colors (especially for portables) they've got over there in Japan.

But maybe this one will come here: as revealed by Sony Japan and cited at Joystiq, a very slick 320GB PS3 Slim in what they're calling "Classic White" will hit the Japanese market on October 21 for the price of 34,980 yen (about $410, which is the same cost as the standard black 320GB PS3 Slim). They're also introducing a "white/blue alternating colors" design for the PSP, which "contrasts the red and black God of War PSP" and will go on sale on November 18 for 17,800 yen ($208). You can see some pics of that here. Of course, neither of these colorful systems have been confirmed for North America but sooner or later, SCEA is gonna have to realize that we kinda like colors, too. We got some good color options for the Dual Shock 3 controller this year - which is now available in black, silver, red, and blue - but we'd like more choices for hardware. Of course, white might show off a lot of smudges or something...but it probably won't show dust. Hmm...

Well, we're not interior decorators; we're gamers. Even so, we want such announcements for the color-appreciating crowds here in the US.

You can always decorate your PS3 with Decals, I suppose. Sometimes they can be really nice!

There are decals you can take off whenever. My PS2 cycled through 7 or 8 different faces. Quality decals won't leave any residue behind.

Besides, they protect the surface! My PS2 looks brand-new still!

I still want that Lightening PS3 even though I disliked FFXIII so much. An all white console wouldn't fly with the wife. She already makes fun of my white DS3. She calls it the Storm Trooper controller. Ha!

Jawk, the Lightning Edition really kicks-ass. And yea, I know pink, gay , whatever - Metallic Pink Lightning on White PS3 looks hawt!

The decal I got is a no-residue adhesive. They usually start to come off after 2 years or so, but for $10, it's not so bad.

Hey Jawky, a quick ebay search proved that the shop still has some units on sale - for 800 bucks that is.

Mine was almost a bargain compared to that :P

The skins are removable and re-applicable. So if you keep the papersheet they come attached to, you can swap decals whenever you want! (That's what I did with my PS2)

I got my Lightning decal off Ebay made with the same materials. But it's the same decalgirl uses. The adhesive doesn't stick permanently and the material is fairly thin.

Lots of variety at decalgirl! Plus you can order custom skins! Want a pic of your family plastered to your PS3? Go ahead and order it!

I'm definitely going to get that bad-a$$ed "Grim Rider" skin for my 60 gigger.

Plus I'll probably wind up picking up 5 PSP skins too. And I like that she also gives you the free skin matching wallpaper for the PSP too.
Shame they don't do the wallpaper for the PS3 too, but hopefully in the future.

The white ones really don't show smudges, unless you pour out your coffee or something over it ^^. Believe me - got mine since December 2009 (Lightning Edition).

You should, however, wipe the dust off once a week or so ;)

I thought about importing one from Japan for a long time. I never could afford it sadly. There was also a place you could buy one and they'd give it a nice new paint job for you and you could get matching controllers too.

I like my classic 60gig ps3 the way it is (black, shiny chrome finish, silver strip on the front with the extra inputs and usb slots). An all white one (complete with white DS3's) would be my second choice.

Hey Ben I got a white Dualshock 3, so they come in white. Actually im using my Ps3 browser to text this comment with me Dualshock 3 witch happens to be white. Also I have a question well two actually. For some reason I dont like Ps3 Slims because I leave mine on for a long time sometimes and i think the slim overheats faster... Or it just heats up more. My question is can i still get the Fat Ps3 anywhere like before? Like a 320gb Fat Ps3? do they sell em? and If we get them colorful Ps3 will there be Fat White Ps3s? Not onli Slims... The Fat Ps3s plastic is shinny and it reflects translucently... I like Fat better... So yea thats my questions...

You can still get a Fat PS3 and it's far cheaper to simply get the 80gig model and swap in a laptop hard drive. You can get a 500gig hard drive for under $70.

Fry's Electronics have the 80GB PS3 (with 2 USB) recertified for $199. It's not as common but they've had an in-store special where if you happen to be there, the 40GB models would be blown out for $129 each.

Don't really know what to say, but the Slims are more reliable according to numbers. They're also quieter...not sure about the heating part but mine always seems okay.

ahhhh, i would not recommend changing out HDDs at the moment!
changed mine the other day and now its stuffed because of the infinite looping issue so many complained about when sony released the last FW.
slims actually run allot cooler than the fat units due to less power consumption and the fans have been moved closer to the back to improve air circulation.

@noname, the circulation is not better. I've looked at and compared both the fat and slim models. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with more slims dying vs. the fats.

o yes it is, slims run a hell of allot cooler than fats.
after 3 or so hours of use my old 60GB ps3 would be so hot i could not touch the top vents without burning myself, and placing my hand next to the vents was like putting them next to a hair dryer.
my slim on the other hand, i have kept it on for 20+ hours from time to time, every 2nd last day of the month i leave it on over night so i can download as much crap as i can and not have to worry about going over my limit and ive never had any problems with it, and putting my hands next to the vents is like putting them next to a portable fan the air exiting the ps3 is much cooler than my old fat.

When Ford started to mass produce because the model T was selling like crazy they only painted in black because black dries the quickest

We have several DS3's over here in black, red, blue and white for everyone to play with. All of our electronics are black, except for the Wii. Something about that "classic white" is enticing me to get it for the bedroom but I've already got my 80GB MGS4 PS3 in there. Thing still runs like a champ and never gets loud.

Damn. Now that I'm thinking about it. I wouldn't mind having a black PS3, next to a blue PS3, next to a white PS3, hanging on the wall. Sooo purrrdy...

I can see this coming to the US and I hope so, I want one. They brought the 160Gb and 320GB(with Move bundle) here, so I'm sure we will see 320GB stand alone in different colors.
Some with the 160GB, maybe.

a friend of mine won the GOW3 airbrushed system which was white with the GOW3 logo and kratos airbrushed onto it.

Still having a normally white ps3 would be awesome!! Some people are willing to dish out $200 plus shipping tax customs and duties to send our buy their system form Colorware. You should see how they color the ps3!!! Flawless art they do glossy colors and what not. However they are only limited to what they offer as no more older fats systems can be done. Then again, the paint on your system could distrupt the ariflow or system components just because it covered the system.
