Shadow Of The Colossus Movie: Encouraging Update
Yes, the remake is coming in the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection. But were you aware of the film...?
Misher Films executive producer Kevin Ping Chang recently spoke to Play Til Doomsday about the project, which seems to be coming along nicely. After confirming that he has "played through it multiple times," Chang confirmed Team ICO boss Fumito Ueda's input on the movie, and talked about how they're going about following the game's structure.
"For Colossus, beyond the cinematic quality of having Wander battling these sixteen colossi, we have to effectively translate that into a narrative that people are going to want to watch for two hours. Without getting into the specifics of the script, that's a big challenge, especially for something so stark.
One of the struggles of the game is that it is very episodic in nature, similar to the seven exes from Scott Pilgrim. Not that I don't respect the Scott Pilgrim source material, but watching the movie, I felt it sort of dragged along. Those are some of the pitfalls that we have to be careful to avoid. So these colossi battles need to be very significant, they can't just be one after the other, there has to be something learned from them."
Chang said that "Sony Japan is very involved right now" and they keep Ueda "up to date as necessary." The best part about this whole interview is the following lines-
"When we feel like we're comfortable with the product,l we'll approach him [Ueda] and ask, 'is this something that speaks to your vision and inspiration?' I think people realize the value of having the creator's involvement more nowadays. They obviously know the material the best."
Exactly correct. Now we're excited about the movie. Chang also said that if the SotC film is a success, they'd "love" to bring ICO to the big screen as well. For our part, we still say a product like Shadow of the Colossus is best experienced in the interactive entertainment medium, but if done correctly, we acknowledge the film could be pretty amazing.

On the other hand, this just proves that Hollywood is running out of ideas or they're too lazy to come up with something original...
I did like Silent Hill and Prince Of persia as motion pictures though...

No way!!
They will destroy it and Ueda won't be able to fully have his voice heard because once production starts, you don't matter, money does.
If they do, i will bomb hollywood. I can't believe he put that Scott Vs the world sh*t in the same sentence as SOTC.....THAT tells you what he watches and where his minds at. It will be butchered.
He will make it as an eye candy, young man battles huge monsters nonsense film.
It will have english dialogue instead of the bizarre language spoke in game and a well known lead instead of an unknown, they matched the mystery of the concept and having english and a known cast would destroy atmosphere. It will be uptempo and have terrible one liners, opposing the slow, quiet, silent game. Dramatic OTT orchestral score opposing the haunting, mellow one in game that matches the atmosphere and oddity of it all. I can see Brad Pitt as Wanda doing flips off the horse onto the colossus!
I could go on and on and on.
I watched as Silent Hill got butchered, upsetting the creators....if i see this one go too, i will slaughter any twat in a suit i see at Hollywood!
This is too deep and artistic for Hollywood. They only see big monsters in it. It's not a Hollywood product.

The movie is 90% off point, absolutely awful.
LOL and just because Christophe isn't American, doesn't mean it ain't hollywood! He was making the movie on a Hollywood bugget for a Hollywood company called Sony Pictures....it's a total modern Hollywood film and it shows.
I could go on for hours about how they went wrong. Anyone familiar with me knows i'm a hardcore Team Silent SH follower and study the originals like it's the last thing i'm gonna do. BELIEVE me, the film was a total mess. A complete dumb down.
Same reason applied, Silent Hill is too artistic for Hollywood.

I agree and fully understand ur hate with passion.
In general, any game based movie will ruin the game and the movie too, see the spirit with in, dragon ball, do a, resident evil, silent hill. And vise versa
It's so sad everywhere it's all about money. But please do not taint Ueda and Kojima

MainEvent, backing up Spirits Whithin tells me all.
Silent Hill the movie was not even a good film on it's own, nevermind being related to one of the deepest and artistic experiences ever in game.
I do agree the Homecoming crap was ANOTHER insult.
sawao_yamanaka, "Team Siren" only has a couple of the Team Silent members. And a female lead hasn't got anything to do with it going wrong.....truly understanding Silent Hill will allow you to see what went wrong. I shown my lady, who has no gaming interest, but huge interest in arthouse cinema and is an independent movie contributor, Silent Hill 2 and she said that she had seen something truly inspiring. Truly deep and extremely artistic with an unrivalled atmosphere.
Showing her the Hollywood film, she cringed the entire time at it's awfulness and said it felt nothing like what she had seen in game. She said it was an awful horror (horror being a key word at how it went wrong) film. This is an educated outsiders input, it tells you the opposing mindsets of the game and film.
I can make one gigantic list of why it's wrong, i can do it in PM if you want. Any Silent Hill in any form after 4 is not a Silent Hill as far as i'm concerned. I choose to ignore them...but it still hurts to see what is being done.

Btw, did you even read the article? Doesn't sound like the director's doing that at all. Also, stop using the term "eye candy"; its getting really annoying, especially in the context you use it in (aka, "Waah! This game isn't completely original. EYE CANDY!!!!!").

No doubt that if done correctly this could be an amazing film, epic in the truest sense of the word... but that's a really really big IF, an 'IF' that I'm quite concerned about them taking a chance on with one of my favourite games/stories of all time.

In all seriousness though, I have the complete outline for a GOOD Shadow of the Colossus film at home. Feel free to call me up, Sony. I'll sell it to you for nothing as long as it means we all get a good SotC flick.

This game had a main character that never said anything, a girl, and then 16 colossi.... How do you make a movie out of that and keep it in line with the nature of the game??
I don't want to watch someone else battle colossi - I want to do it.
It would be awesome if they pulled it off; but it just seems like it's not the right type of game for a movie in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong it was awesome gameplay-wise for its time but of all the game-movie concepts floating around nowadays why pick one that barely even has a story?
Must save random princess/perfect gf, must kill giant bosses because the evil mumbling tells me to with a total of 2 supporting events, one of which being the ending with no english in the whole paragraph of dialogue found in the game.
There's tonnes of games with better stories or at the very least more adaptable ones.
