Nomura: KHIII "Might Be Possible" This Generation
Kingdom Hearts fans have long since asked for a third installment for the PlayStation 3 and although the new PSP entry, Birth by Sleep, is pretty damn good, those fan wishes remain.
In a new EGM interview with Square-Enix producer Tetsuya Nomura (as cited by PlayStation LifeStyle), he actually talks a bit about the prospect of making KHIII. While he does say that "any sequel of the mainstream storyline of the Kingdom Hearts series" would indeed be KHIII, he adds:
"But the problem is that the opportunity of developing the sequel is not currently [possible]. The team is busy, I am busy."
That's sort of discouraging but at least Nomura says he wants to do it, and in fact is preparing to do it. Therefore, it's something fans of the franchise can look forward to, even if they have to wait...the only question is, how long will they have to wait? Will we at least see KHIII during this generation of consoles? In response to that, Nomura replied:
"Yes it might be possible. It is my desire to develop the next Kingdom Hearts on the existing platform, but the problem with a new console is that it has new technical requirements… So, yes, I’m willing to create something on the existing console because when we aim for another non-existing future console, the release of the title will be far in the future. That’s my concern."
Next to the oft-rumored Final Fantasy VII remake, Kingdom Hearts III is the one big S-E announcement RPG fans have been pining for since the start of the PS3 era. Hopefully, we'll be able to bring you an official announcement before the unveiling of the PS4.

Truth be told, I'm willing to wait if it means Nomura will do it. I'm not really willing to accept anyone else to play around with KH. (or that oft rumored game Ben referred to, either)

I miss the days where i'd see the Squaresoft logo and automatically buy the game knowing that i'd love it (and i was 8 back then)...
Now SE's all about quantity over quality...
So yeah i wish they'd make a new studio... And even if their games couldn't be named Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts they would at least qualify as one of them... :P

Anyways, I'm rambling, as long as Tetsuya Nomura makes it(KH3) and it's on a Sony home console, with that I mean PS3 or maybe PS4, I'll be happy.
Also, Really enjoying Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, I'm currently playing it when I have time at school or on the bus, since I'm really busy with the new study and whatnot.
Not too busy to check PSXE every morning though, it's now a part of my morning ritual, pick up alarm clock(which is my mobile phone), go to quick tabs and press Sony PS3 N..(which would stand for this site).

...and it's Disney. By default, it almost has to be childish if they're including Disney icons like Mickey and Goofy.
But for the record, I wouldn't be as excited about KHIII as others.

But then with the 2nd one I realized how one note the concept was and how easy the gameplay had become. Plus the Disney worlds were pretty empty and the storyline was a complete mess.
Glad to hear you're not fully on the KH bandwagon. I'm tired of RPG developers slowly eroding the RPG format.

Oh Gawd...please don't even suggest such a thing.
I really don't get why developers can't simply keep oldschool game mechanics with next-gen graphics. The DS and PSP are great systems for playing TRUE RPGs but I'm itching for something bigger and better looking. Its a shame that handhelds get a vast majority of the great RPGs this generation.

As for KH, I never even considered it to be a straight up RPG, so the battle mechanics never bothered me. In fact, I'd never even heard of it when I first got the first one. I just saw Cloud on the box art and was like, "must buy".
One of the only impulse purchases I've ever had!
Anyways, I love the series. I haven't played Birth by Sleep yet, and I don't own a DS, but I've played the other 3 titles. (1, 2, and CoM) I'm a completionist, so defeating Sephiroth was always rewarding.
As for the no magic, you can play lots of games without using magic... FFVII and FFVIII included... even FFT you can get away without magic... I know I've commented on FFVIII before in this regard, and I think you guys just aren't taking advantage of the battle system if you find "no use" for magic in these games.
Hey, I used magic all the time in KH, and in FFVIII, Rinoa does more damage with magic for me than Squall could ever cause with melee attacks.

I was a magic whore in KHI but KHII ruined it for me. Thats how you know a game's magic system sucks; when you influence someone who loves to use magic as much as I do to barely use it at all. They got rid of some very cool spells like aero and changed the mp bar so you barely had any magic at your disposal.
Also Birth by Sleep is good (2/3 done with it), the battle system is much better than KH2 IMO as now I find myself using magic again. 358/2 days was too repetitive. I would just look up scenes to the game/read the storyline as its not worth buying a DS for.
@LimitedVertigo
YES! omg the worlds were downright pathetic. KH1 worlds were a hell of a lot more vast and there was more in them. KH2 made all the worlds feel empty and lifeless and the only one I liked out of them was Timeless River.

o, no, wait, the day KH3 releases is the day wardevil releases!
which will be never, they just revealed the dev team has been closed and all their projects thrown in the bin!
:(
figures the one game that looked original and had allot of potential is the one that gets canned!
well, i guess thats what happens when you promise the world than show nothing for 4+ years!
watch out R* your next, so you better show us some LA Noire, max payne 3 footage otherwise they might suffer the same fate!

I've waited so freaking patiently for KH3 to even be announced and each year you dissapoint everyone and instead announce spin-off! Yea BBS was good and 358/2 was decent but stop this nonsense.
Finish Versus XIII already and get your head out of your butt and get it into gear. Seriously if you can't develop the new KH game after having so much time with the PS3 system before the "the next generation" you have a huge problem. And what worries me about that statement is that I feel like your planing on going multiplat with that cause lord knows the new xbox will probably be out by the time you finish Versus XIII but assuming its finished within the next 4 years I'm pretty sure you won't have to worry about the next generation as far as the ps3 goes.
Epic snail pace and stupidity FTW eh?
Seriously if the game isn't being worked the day after versus XIII is finished you lose a fan.
