EA: Medal Of Honor Sets Franchise Pre-Order Record

It's one of the most anticipated games of the year, and it's destined to clash with Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops for holiday season supremacy.

EA has revealed that Medal of Honor has broken the pre-order record for the 11-year-old franchise, and we've still got a week to go before the game arrives. They wouldn't give us any numbers, though, so we'll just have to take EA's word for it. The new MoH installment is a reboot of the series; it features a modern setting in Afghanistan and will depict the ongoing war on terror. The elite Tier 1 Operators take center stage, and it'll be interesting to attempt missions that no one else wants to attempt. The multiplayer beta debuted on the PlayStation 3 and EA will kick off the PC beta test starting October 4; PC gamers can actually download it on the 1st. Now, the question is: if you had to pick one shooter to buy this fall, would it be Medal of Honor? Or would it be Black Ops? We have plenty of faith in both and we've been looking for a MoH rejuvenation for quite some time, as the more recent entries have been seriously lacking.

Anyway, stay tuned for our review of the game. We'll be either on point or early with this one, depending on the embargo.

Good question, I'm definitely torn but I have to say I'm leaning more towards MOH. I like the fact that its addressing a current conflict and that the developers utilized people with direct experience in the field. I'm sure Black Ops will be good and will probably sell better.

Luckily, I don't have to choose. As a fan of shooters, I'll probably end up getting both (assuming both receive good reviews), but I'm pulling for MOH just because it seems like the underdog this year and has really fallen from glory...I like a good comeback!

I forgot which website I read that EA wouldn't make another MOH game unless this one sells 3 million total. Anyone hear that too?

It SHOULD make it past that on 3 platforms...buuuuut a lot of 360ers will still be playing Reach for like the next two years so that could pose a problem.

It looks good, but probably my main reason for a purchase is nostalgia. I still love the 'Medal of Honor' titles (even the decidedly weaker ones, save for 'Vanguard'), and for whatever reason, I don't feel the first-person shooter 'sickness' I usually do when I see such games.
Game like 'Black Ops.' Not to say that it looks outright bad, but I just feel like it's being done to death (I quit the series after 'World At War').

THe multiplayer being a lot like Battlefield and the Single-player looking much better than Black Ops, I think this will be purchased much sooner than CoD.

This should be interesting, it seems the hype has taken effect.

Now I remember about KZ2's pre-order exceeding 1 million in Europe alone last year but that turned out to be untrue, what was that all about?
And I thought it would sell like crazy.

Honor before Ops,
(but I'll get both eventually)

Anyway, hitting a pre-order record abodes well for the series.

And welcome Back. I've missed you, MOH.

Same here. Will get both. I'm twitching to get both games (see what I did there? eh? eh? oh, shaddup..)

My online play nowadays has only been Uncharted 2 and RDR, so its a welcome change. I sorta missed the FPS since I sold my MW2..

Im buyin MOH day 1 at walmart cause ill get a 20.00 gift card haha. But MOH just from the friends of afar trailer had me hooked. I saw that and was like omg that looks great. No more running and gunning cod style. I just hope the storys well down and that it has emotional segments. MW tries at that but dosent really hit it.

I will be picking this up day one. I've already got my preorder in. Looks fun and maybe it'll give COD a run for its money.

MoH diffidently a buy for me, I wont get black ops and hope MoH does really well, it won't out sell black ops but I know it will put up a good fight and I know that it will be the better game no matter what sells figures show(which is usually the case).

I'll be getting neither but if I can convince my buddy who has no 360 (So there is no chance of a Reach interruption) and it waiting for the new COD to buy it I'm sure I'll be forced to play both.

That said, if I hadda pick one it'd be MOH cuz I hate Activision. You guys hear about their bunk Guitar Queero discs? Wow Bobby is gonna hate paying for those replacements.

I'm regretting on using my $20 promotional code on a blue DS3, I wish I would of used it on MoH.

I want MOH to be good, but seeing as how it has been absent for quite sometime, I'm gonna wait for some reviews. There's some comebacks that are epic, and some that should never have happened.

I know what to expect with COD, so I'm a little more inclined to get that first...although Treyarch makes me nervous.

Either way, I look at these two potentially great games and think to myself: "Man, games sure have come a looong way since JRPG's, eh boys?"

Nope, I won't be getting it because the gameplay looks too similar to Battlefield 2. I don't understand why I would want it when I just recently bought Battlefield 2.

Wait, the article says it broke the pre-order record for the franchise, I get the feeling the pre-order record for the titles 11-odd years ago would be significantly smaller if not only because there were far fewer gamers.

And because gaming wasn't anywhere near as big.

Yeah, I don't think it's all that significant, either, which is why they didn't give us any numbers. But still, EA likes to make headlines.

And pre-ordering was never really a big deal. Pre-order incentives have inticed people to it. When MoH was popular, it wasn't promoted. So this news is kind of mis-leading

it looks like their hype machine is in overdrive. of course moh set a franchise pre order record, it's because they've never released an entry since pre ordering became the rage. it's a smart marketing ploy by ea because today's generation is more lemming like than ever. i'm still chaffed from that p.o.s. airborne they put out in 07 i think it was.

MoH doesn't look very good to me. I sure hope I'm pleasantly surprised but with two devs working on the game I really doubt it's going to be a cohesive experience.

I mean seriously, the level design looks dull.

I've lost all faith with EA because of BC2, they really dropped the ball with that game. Not that activision is any better, I just find it best to avoid both =P .

thats not exactly a compliment considering gaming is 10 times more popular now than what it was back then!
selling 2M units back then was a milestone, only the best of the best reached that.
now every tom, dick, and harry can release a 2M seller!

I am choosing Medal of honor, EA has really put alot of effort into the game and i think the best thing we can do as ps3 owners is rally behind them, also they have stood behind the playstation brand more than any other publisher.

I'm going to wait for reviews first but if they are positive, I will buy Medal Of Honor. I have no plans to buy Activision's game as I'm boycotting all products made by them.

man people are crazy if they think moh is gonna compete with Black Ops, thats crazy. Im not gonna buy another battlefield game, plus Black Ops is gonna be different and not full of the crap that MW2 had. MOH is gonna sell well, but not well to top COD BO PERIOD!

They put a lot of time and effort into this game so I want to support it. I also think Black Ops is going to be very good. I just hope the SP of MoH is worth it. I was very dissappointed with BFBC2. The SP lasted all of a few hours and the story wasn't as good as the first one.

I plan on renting both through gamefly and then purchasing them when the price drops to the 40's. Not the best way to support either, but my pockets are more important.
