New Silent Hill Will Use Silent Hill 2 As Primary Inspiration
Silent Hill: Homecoming was okay, but horror fans really just want the next big production to arrive.
That is what is currently known as "Silent Hill 8." And thanks to a translation posted at Hell Descent, we have a new update: Czech gaming site Doupe spoke with the Lead Designer of the new SH installment, Mark Berka, and first off, he explains how they'll be "moving away from the more action-oriented feel of Silent Hill: Homecoming." In fact, they're trying for something more similar to Silent Hill 2 as the latter survival/horror classic on the PS2 will be a "primary influence in terms of atmosphere." Oh, and if you're worried about the team taking any inspiration from the movie - which went over well with some, but not with others - Berka says this won't happen. We also like to hear they're going to place a big emphasis on the psychological horror aspects of the franchise; after all, this is the reason the games are so damn freaky. It's not about blood and gore and it certainly isn't about action; it's about the sensation. Ask Hitchock.
Silent Hill 8 will follow the story of escaped convict Murphy Pendleton's journey into the haunted village. Berka says a convict is a good pick as a main character because he has "so much background and depth." We can't wait to hear more!

This new one is sounding cool though, I bought the PS1 classic and put it on my PSP and it's good times.

Major f*cking dissapointment and waste of time....
EDIT: Make that 7 times, had to play 2 more rounds because of that infamous "PS3 date error", it screwed up 2 of my saves...

THAT was survival horror. always being low on health supplies, critically low on ammo, scant pick-ups, and no store to restock ur supplies. on top of that, those zombies were damn bullet sponges, and the atmosphere was as creepy as neverland ranch... with zombies.
i would totally play a game with that setting

Like Booze said, Resident Evil Remake on Gamecube is survival horror. Play that one if you haven't. The graphics are still decent for a game that's as old as it is.
@Booze, those Crimson Heads were horrifying. That remake was the best horror game i have ever played.

Really? Because the trailer looked A LOT like the movie and Homecoming...
Anyway, I am hoping this franchise returns to its roots and I was hoping they took more inspiration from SH3, IMO the scariest in the series...
It's good to hear that this one is staying far away as possible from the action genre, if someone can say SH:H had any action at all...

Great series. Definitely scary and very enjoyable in its own adventurous ways.
SH while very psychotic is pure quality. The story alone is always top notch.
Hope this team does a good job. The trailer they released a while ago looks solid. Can't wait to see more. Hopefully the fact that it's multiplatform doesn't hold them back.

thats not what silent hill is all about, its about claustrophobic tense atmosphere.
its not about the combat, its not about what is around the corner, its about what could be around the corner.
its so disappointing to see the horror genre take such a steep dive this gen, ps1, ps2 days you almost had a horror game a month and all were fantastic!
to be honest theres not one game i could call a horror game this gen.
F.E.A.R was close, a great game but too much action not enough scares, fear 2 was a repeat of that but more action less scares.
same for RE5, dead space, and siren blood curse was more of a stealth game than a horror game.
yea, go hide in the closet till the "murderer" disappears out of sight.
yea thats real fun just stare at a guy walking past for 10 minutes.
yea thats how i want to spend my free time!
thats soooooooooooooooooo much fun!!!!!!!!!
