Versus XIII And Agito XIII TGS Trailer Finally Surfaces

Remember that 30 seconds of low-quality, shaky Final Fantasy Versus XIII video at TGS 2010?

Well, here's a much better look. This is a minute longer and gives us peeks at both Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, the upcoming PSP exclusive. The trailer first shows us FFXIII, which is technically part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis storyline, and then launches into Agito XIII, which reminds us a bit of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy. Lots of flashy action and oh yes, top-notch visuals that might seem impossible for a little portable game.

Then there's the Versus XIII footage. ...you know, we've been hearing a lot of talk from Square-Enix, about how it's like "playing a picture" and about how this is simply another step forward in video game graphics. Well, we're more inclined to believe them now. We nee Noctis running around several different barren landscapes, but the opening snippet of CGI and the detail of the final battle (which we couldn't really see in the other grainy video) are pretty darn convincing. What do you think?

I'm looking forward to hopefully the breifly mentioned possibility of a FFXIII-2 more than either of these games.

The guy running in the trailer was um...neat though. /s

Well looks like I'll have another PSP game to buy before the PSP2 hits. I could really go for a solid 10min game play demonstration of Vs XIII though.

Squares PSP releases are the only reason I haven't completely abandoned them...yet. Looks good. Let's hope it's stays that way. I remember early footage of FFXIII looking magnificent then they toned it down after the multiplat was announced.

There isn't any HUD I think cause SE said they didn't want to give to much away. There IS one but not is this trailer. Not sure why they did it that way TBH. I don't understand their thinking sometimes. How does revealing their HUD give too much...than again it could give us a clue as to how the gameplay will be. (I was kinda typing to myself...much like talking to ones self :P).

In terms of detail, I'm sorry, but I saw nothing to crazy in this trailer :( Does anyone agree or am I just blind?

Yea most games shown in their infantile stage usually lack a HUD.

I disagree with your last sentence. The animations and movement of the characters clothing was rather impressive. If Square keeps vXIII exclusive and delivers what they have been promising we could see one of the best looking games we have ever seen. Thats is unless Wada gets his way and has this game toned town and ported to the 360 like they did with XIII.

Anyone else recognize that white scorpion looking enemy at the end of the Agito portion of the trailer??

Its the same enemy as the very first boss you fight in the reactor at the beginning of Final Fantasy VII. Only it was red in FFVII.

I don't know about you guys but them seems to be my reaction for every Square Enix game this generation:

Phase 1: WOW those graphics look awesome, show me more damn it!

Phase 2: (About a year later) Nice trailer, I wonder when they'll show us gameplay?! Regardless, I'm psyched for this!

Phase 3: (A years later...) Ok, another trailer, that's all good, their just saving the gameplay for a big reveal right?!

Phase 4: (And another...) Gameplay looks good... I guess... Release date?

Phase 5: Release confirmed for Xbox/A year from now/"we couldn't include everything we wanted in this game... But just you wait for the next!"

Maybe I'm being a little unfair. I mean FFXIII really the only SE game to have done that so far. And maybe the Last Remnant... Star Ocean...

Okay I found a source, looks badass. Agito looks like it may be running on the Dissidia engine and I'm enjoying that game right now.

Versus looks to be a sweet ARPG so far. But like OMG, Noctis didn't appear to be in any killtubes!

I think Cloud and Sephiroth are the worst in the game. Cloud..can't.....speak a.....whole.....sentence.....with...out......pausing...every...other.....word.

Isn't that just the typical pain the ass horse*shit hackjob that Square tends to do to match the lips, kinda like how everyone in anime pauses needlessly in the English translation in the middle of sentence. Sometimes I wonder if anyone at Square speaks english fluently because the biggest issues tend to be with the corny scripts.

I don't have a prob with his voice though, sounds like the same guy from Advent Children.

Yea they are the same guys. I hated advent childrens voice acting. X and XII had way better voice acting. They screwed up big time matching voices for the VII characters.

I have something very embarrassing to say.....I've never played a Final Fantasy game a day in my life, not because I think they're bad or anything, just like the 1st person & 3rd person shooters, turned-based rpg's just weren't my cup of tea, but I'm willing to give Versus a shot.

Any recommendations for any rpg's or shooters that I might that I missed out on fellows.

Well the first TPS that comes to mind is Uncharted 2, but if you haven't played that then GET TO IT IMMEDIATELY! The first one was good as well.
RPGs.. Humm.. I'd say FFXIII, even though some people don't like it, it's one of my favorite RPGs on the PS3. Also Demon's Souls and Dragon Age of course. :)

Well, I see where you're trying to get. But you seem to ravage at anything FFXIII on every post.
I think everyone knows by now that you don't like XIII.

XIII is a Final Fantasy, just not a good Final Fantasy. It's still a RPG, just a variation on the type of RPG FF usually is.
I, personally, think it's a great game, and that everyone should at least try it.

Hey im just offering other suggestions. XIII compared to the rest of the Final Fantasy games can hardly be called a Final Fantasy or an RPG. Just because you think so doesn't make it so. They stripped 80% of what makes Final Fantasy or an RPG out of XIII. Its hardly the best representation of the franchise especially to new comers. Any one of those entries I suggested are cheaper and better and i think most fans of the series have reached that consensus. Don't get all bent out of shape.

You seem to be the one trying to "deem your opinion so", because I'm simply being realistic, now you, you're just angry at Squeenix.

Is XIII better than VII, VIII, IX, X, IV or VI? No, but it's still a good game (in my opinion), just not a good Final Fantasy. Most people disregarding the latter part of my sentence will find fun in XIII.

I know what he means, believe me. I'm not a big fan of XIII as a FF either, it was a disappointment.
But it's still a pretty fun and interesting game if you overlook that little bitter problem (not being a traditional FF), and I don't think people should advise others to keep away from it.
I was discussing semantics on my other posts, I guess.

FF XII is the least turn-based of the games Jawknee suggested. If you're more used to real-time action, it might be the best starting point.

However, the other games will look dated by comparison (though they all look dated compared to PS3 games), so you might want to start with VII and work your way up to XII.

I have no idea if XIII would actually be worth trying for a FF noob.

I, personally, did not like FFX-2 much but loved X.
Some people love X-2.
However, I think it's general consensus that X is better than X-2.

Looks decent, not enough to get excited about, SE is still the same company it was 5 months ago though. I've decided to give XIII just a complete miss. It's just not worth my time, let alone money.

These 2 games show promise as a concept but that's it.
