X-Men Arcade Classic Battles Onto PSN/XBLA This Fall
Back in the early '90s, the arcades were still a pretty big deal. And one of the most popular arcade games of the day will soon make a triumphant return.
Konami and Marvel Entertainment have announced X-Men Arcade for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. Developed by Backbone Entertainment, this is the 1992 cabinet arcade classic revisited, and we'll once again be able to control the likes of Cyclops, Colossus, Dazzler, Nightcrawler, Storm and Wolverine in this awesome side-scroller. The list of villains includes Pyro, Wendigo, White Queen, Juggernaut and Mystique, and the X-Men will have to battle their way to Island M to take down the ultimate bad dude, Magneto. The goal is to save Kitty Pryde and Professor Xavier.
The remake will support 1-4 players for local multiplayer and 1-6 players online; it'll also allow for online drop-in and of course, you can expect flashy new high-definition visuals. Said Seth Lehman, Vice President of Digital Licensing for Marvel:
"Just like with our comics, Marvel has a rich history of great video games, and we're happy to play our part with KONAMI reintroducing this classic to fans of all ages. Fans have been clamoring for X-Men Arcade to hit consoles for 18 years now, and we're confident they'll find this re-release was worth the wait. The game looks and plays exactly like we remember it - all without the added worries of being low on quarters when you're closing in on Magneto."
Players will also be able to utilize the Custom Match Mode that lets them choose the kind of session they would like to join by setting the amount of players, difficulty and what level in which to start. This is the kind of old-school brawling action we left behind quite some time ago, so it's nice to see it return for the veteran gamers. X-Men Arcade is due out some time this fall.

Can't wait to team up with other people to run through this game, for PSN I hope they release the classic TMNT like they did with XBLA.

I'd like to see a new series of games like this. No more faux-RPGs that fall short like the X-Men Legends and Ultimate Alliance games (and yes, I enjoyed and loved those, too). Just more arcade action.
Of course, I'm still waiting for a full on turn based X-Men RPG that I've been wanting for almost two decades. Heh...

If it wasn't this game (and it always was at Magic Mountain), it was Turtles in Time or the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.
This X-Men game brings me way back to simpler times for me. ^.^
