Pirates Of The Caribbean Game Sinks

It's always a bad sign when you go months and months without hearing a peep.

Disney Interactive Studios has confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned has been canceled. The sandbox title was in development at Propaganda Studios and intended to release on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, but a recent restructuring has caused the project to fall by the wayside. Disney's statement read:

"As a result of this decision, Disney Interactive Studios completed a restructuring of Propaganda Games, its Vancouver, BC internal studio, affecting one of the studio's two development teams."

Evidently, over 100 people lost their jobs during the process but at the same time, Disney has some reassuring words for those looking forward to Tron: Evolution: "The studio [Propaganda] is still in active production of Tron: Evolution, the video game, which will be released on December 7, 2010, with additional DLC support following the game's release." That's only 10 days before the movie, "Tron: Legacy," hits theaters nationwide on December 17.

But anyway, Pirates is no more. Too bad, too...we would've been interested to play a GTA-like seafaring game.

Maybe they can lock Orlando Bloom in that locker to teach him a lesson for trying to act.

I actually liked the movies a lot. And that's saying a lot since I think Disney is the Devil. But of course they had their flaws (Orlando Bloom) but overall the were pretty solid.

I didn't think any of them were that great. the first was ok, the second was meh and the third was pure torture.

I'll give you that the third was crap, but I liked where they were trying to go though. I hope the next one will be better.

After reading that article, I was only upset by one statement...

"...with additional DLC support following the game's release."

Damn... I hate it when stuff that could easily get put in the game gets held back for more $'s in DLC... I'm cool with stuff developed after the fact... but this is one business practice I dislike...

Seems they should just keep their mouths shut about stuff like this. When i ever here that statement it pushes me NOT to buy the game. So they shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to this gamer.

I agree whole heartedly, they could at least pretend to make the DLC as a later bonus for fans.

@Worlds
no kidding. I 100% support being left in the dark on that issue. I would be much happier with the wool pulled over my eyes.

No seriously. I'm not being sarcastic. I really wish they wouldn't say that.

It's one thing if they pretty much have content ready for a DLC, like a month or two post release, that's available at no charge (to reward people for not trading in their game). It sucks if they want to charge for that content.

I don't mind if they have plans (meaning they've allotted development time) following a game to see which aspects of the game have been well received and develop premium content around that for release 6 - 12 months following a games release.

I never like to read about games being cancelled. And a pirate game to boot. That stinks. Was it not far enough along? Is interest in the subject matter completely gone? Were they just nervous about putting out a game about pirates?

Get Rockstar on the job. We need a REAL pirate game now. Preferably one without dancing in it.

Can't say I was interested in these, but Johnny Depp made those movies work. I laughed when I saw him show up at that school in character cuz that kid wrote him a letter asking him to lead a mutiny on their teacher.

If ya don't like Bloom and Knightly, they aren't gonna be in the next movie.

Another Pirates movie? Depp was my favorite, but still, Bloom and Knightly had their places. Yeah, they had their share of annoying qualities, but so did the lead man.

I tried to watch one the pirate movies but it was straight garbage. I still dont know why they were such box office smashes. I think every film did over $300 million. They probably saved some money by not making the game. Just because its a hit movie doesn't mean its going to be a hit game!

Wasn't overly interested in either game, but I would have much rather seen the sandbox style pirate game, than a Tron hack n' slash.

Tron may be an interesting concept, but for a video game it is graphically poor, brightly colored outlines is boring.

Gotta agree with you there. Tron over pirates just seems like a bad decision. I guess they're hoping for some extra sales because of the movie.

I've been pondering this for a bit now but why hasn't anyone taken on the pirate genre? It's such a promising theme.

Wasn't this game supposed to be a lot more than just a sandbox game, wasn't it supposed to be no less that something that could remind of a mmorpg on the ps3?
Or am I utterly mistaken again, as often is the case?

Why am I not suprised? Games are getting canceled left and right because they either 1)are overunning their budgets 2)look unprofitable or 3)chances will be hit hard by bad reviews. Again these just another consequence of high game development budgets.

This actually looked decent enough to look forward to, which is more than I can say for Tron. The latter might be a bit flashier but we do need an epic open-world pirate game. there's been a couple but nothing with today's tech really behind it.
