Capcom: Onimusha, Dino Crisis Part Of Internal Discussions
They're two of Capcom's most beloved franchises...or at least, they were. The question is whether or not we'll ever see them again.
Fans want to know: what happened to Onimusha and Dino Crisis? Will they ever come back? Well, Capcom VP of Strategic Planning and Business Development Christian Svennson told IGN that the franchises aren't dead; the company is just trying to figure out how to bring them back for "modern day gamers." Said Svensson:
"Onimusha is tricky in particular given how Japanese-focused the franchise has been. When you look at the timing and sales trend of how Onimusha has gone each outing – I won't give you the exact numbers, but let's just say every outing subsequently has been about 60% of the prior - the brand doesn't right now have quite the resilience that you might think."
He pointed out that while the first two Onimusha titles were very successful; the last two..."not so much." He did admit an announcement might be coming soon, though, as the Onimusha name is "percolating" at the company. As for Dino Crisis, he says it has come up in several discussions but thus far, nobody has figured out a good way to bring it back.
"Dino Crisis 3 I think is where it went off the rails if I recall. Dino Crisis' success really was an out cropping of Resident Evil 1 and 2. There are discussions, Dino Crisis comes up from time to time, but there isn't any burning desire from R&D or the business side to light that franchise back up again. Until there's an internal champion with something incredible, things just sort of sit there."
Svensson added that the the pre-rendered backgrounds and tank controls probably wouldn't go over well today. Well, yeah, we could've told you that. Still, we definitely want to see another Onimusha. Figure it out, Capcom.

And I s'pose it would be hard to westernize because correct me if i'm wrong, but the 1st one was based loosely of the actual person Lord Nobunaga, some people described him as a demon, Which the game depicts, and some describe him as a saint. I'm not clear on the history but I'm sure that throws a wrench in the mix.
as for D.C. Didn't the 1st 1 or 2 take place in Raccoon City?

Playing those two titles on a big HD TV would really bring to the forefront the low-res pixels.
Hopefully, they have high-res source material they could go back to for any HD remakes.

think about how much backlash that game is getting right now. I don't know I want to see another onimusha title as well but maybe they should let it go, I mean with the kinda of decisions they've been making recently it probably wouldn't work out.

They already released crap last entries in BOTH series with DC3 and the last Oni game being painful in comparison to the early, great efforts. I just don't have ANY faith in Capcom whatsoever outside of SF or MH really.

Damn you Capcom. Get your sh*t together for God's sake man! What are you Square Enix? We don't want watered down mass-idiot-appeal games. Grow a pair. If you can't get people interested in Japanese swordplay and f*cking Dinosaurs then you don't deserve to be in the business.

Face it, videogames are becoming fast food. Why spend forever creating an amazing dish that could easily cost $50 when you can slap cheap meat and bread together and sell it to the masses for a huge profit.

Onimusha was great too! Very good indeed!
I would love to see their return on the PS3 (or Xbox 360 and I completely agree with Limited Vertigo on his statement, ANYBODY (maybe not the PS3 community? :PP) would buy anything with Halo or CoD on it. All my classmates play those games and when i tell them about something like Shadow of the Colossus, they go "WTF ZIS IS CRAP HALO REACH FTW WIN PEW PEW".
Seriously? =[

Of course, any new Onimusha game would absolutely be a day 1 purchase for me, so they kinda get my money either way. But, if they want them to be successes, then they should definitely move away from what didn't work in the later installments.

id love to see a new one with move support.
the last dino crysis sucked donkey balls!
not really interested in a new one, unless there actually going to be bothered putting the effort in.
its a market they have to themselves, theres not many other dinosaur shooting games so you would think they would be all over it.

We want to see Regina and Dylan Again... And what was the fate of Paula.
Thanks to all the team whom made possible this fantasy of Dino Crisis.) I'm thinking whoever wrote that particular petition was either drunk, foreign, or really needs to go back to school.

That's not me saying that DC and Capcom ripped off Michael Crichton's books or the films, but they were heavily influenced by them. Right down to the biological and morphological inaccuracies of certain dinosaur species. Like the velociraptor.
Maybe if the fourth film ever gets out of development hell and gets made -- and is actually good -- Capcom will change their minds.

This is great news. Onimusha was always my favourite hack'n'slash adventure series, and the franchise I have missed more than any other this gen. I guess it sits in the middle-ground, half way between the hardcore territory of Ninja Gaiden and the pick up and play badassery of God of War.
Needless to say, it's Japanesness was always part of the appeal to me, but this fact would just be lost on Capcom.
Wasn't that Inafune jerk recently heard to laugh condescendingly at suggestions Onimusha be bought back?

You recall a few weeks back news came out about a collaboration between Capcom and Level-5, and everyone was guessing like hell what this might be.
I speculated that it would be a Professor Layton / Phoenix Wright crossover on the 3DS, and it turns out I was right, as it has just been announced by Level-5
So, maybe not such a big deal and nothing to get PS3 owners excited, but pretty good if you are into puzzle solving / crime investigating mash ups on the latest hand held
actually, both of those franchises are pretty entertaining and have a lot of charm. It's the sort of thing I would definately buy on PSN download

It wasn't his looks that made him a so-called bad-ass in the first place it was his persona.

If they ever make another dino crisis i want it to be like dc 2 .Loved the non stop action and doing some chains for maximum point that you could use to buy stuff .All that game needed to make it perfect was maybe 2 hour more in another island or complex .
As a side note i must say that I never had anything against tank control/pre-rendered background and never will .

So they have finally met the game that is SO Japanese they can't westernize it. Is that why they laugh at the idea of another Onimusha?
I never played an Onimusha game but that blond dude in Tatsunoko vs Capcom was pretty cool.
