Demon's Souls Beaten In Under 1 Hour

Need something to shoot for? Got lots and lots and lots of time on your hands to master the exact correct paths and techniques?

Then try to beat the all-time best speed runs in Demon's Souls. For most mortals, the game will take around 40 hours to beat, and that's probably not counting the time lost to broken controllers and curled up on the floor in a fetal position, begging for some leniency. But the hardest of the hardcore have found a way to take the game down in record time...in less than an hour, in fact. Here's Part 1 of alternal's speed run through Atlus' gem:

His total time? 54 minutes, 54 seconds. You came close, right? Probably 58 minutes or so? ...no? Why are you laughing? Hey, all this guy does is dodge just about everything but the bosses and he obviously knows exactly where to go and when. You can do that, too. Just spend some time doing a bit of research or whatever. Good luck with that.

This isn't really that hard. i think 1 playthrough and you'll be familiar with the place 2nd play through you know most of the enemies and where to go to avoid them. Probably the hardest stage to run is 4-1 where the enemies roll so u can't outrun them. I can beat it in probably 2 hours if i try speed running it then just keep choppin off time till i become better and faster.

I don't know about that. You may be able to dodge a few attacks early on but being able to dodge perfect repeatedly over the length of a stage IMO is incredibly difficult.

U dont really need to dodge all the attacks. if u know where the enemy spawns then u just avoid them/run pass by them. there will be a point when they stop following you. Or you can just cast cloak on yourself and run pass them. Alot of them can be avoided just by running like the casters in the tower of latria. And its so easy to speed run level 5. You can run and avoid anybody there especially 5-2 just go around them. As i said only world 4 is hard to speed run cause u have to fight the rolling dudes.

On the 2nd playthrough, this is definitely possible. Seeing as you get to keep your previous experience, weapons & magic so its totally possible.

This game has seriously become one of my favorites of the generation. The further into the game, its super addictive. You tube Demon's Souls crack..lol It satisfies my desire for a deep experience & that's hard to come by these days.

& just to be clear, this game really isn't that hard. Its challenging but its not as hard as a lot of peeps are making it out to be. The problem is, during the tutorial & beginning of the game, they don't spoon feed you on farming & spending your souls the right way. The Demons Souls wiki helps tremendously as well fyi...

Actually this is not easier on your 2nd playthrough since the game's difficulty rises by 4 times (biggest difficulty jump of them all).

This is easier on your following playthroughs (3rd, 4th, etc.)

I agree. 3rd/4th etc play-throughs are much easier with the benefit of being well leveled up. 1hr is a great feat but completely do-able. I'd expect to see more people now that the challenge as been put down, attempting and succeeding at this.
You're not running through the game to unlock other NPCs, you're not trying to grind for rare stones. You're not soul farming or weapon upgrading. It's just running from the start of the level, to the boss at the end of the level. Not taking from some of it's difficulty, but if you play enough and are leveled up enough, this is really not a very hard game.
It has a reputation because it starts out hard but with enough hours pumped into it, you'll know every inch of it, enough that you'll have no problems reaching the end of the level quick.
1hr though, that is really cool!

I'm not saying that I can do it. I'm just saying that I can see other people trying to beat this and succeeding. 1hr is phenomenal but all thats being done is running through the levels with the hardest thing being the boss fight at the end of the level.
And yeah, it would be that easy. I gather you're someone who gave up after not getting through the first level. Because anyone who has stuck the game out and cleared it, will tell you that it's not as hard as you've heard!

LOL at LV. I think I could do it, but that's too much patience and steady consistency. I think if I was able to just block out rushing it and get down to it...it wouldn't be so hard. After you beat the game one time, everything becomes pretty obvious the second play through. The only challenge is actually surviving because you know what to expect. I love this game even though many hate it.

Most impressive. It's one thing to research and remember every short cut and bypass, but to maintain consistently impeccable timing like that for every dodge and maneuver like that is truly something else.

Cool thing is any player can go the uppermost floor of Nexus (Pantheon) to view the phantom statues of the online boards of fastest times, least deaths, most player kills, highest soul rank, etc...

@Sticklife: Why do you think he used a guide? If you clear the game once and attempt what he's doing, you'll already know enough to 'run' through the levels. With the exception of Tower of Latria, having to find keys to unlock gates that allow you to proceed through that level, all the other levels are pretty linear and have plenty of short cuts.
I'm not saying that I could beat this guys time, no way, but if you were inclined to try and know were the enemies already are from experience, no need for a guide.

No armor, and alternating between running and sprinting will do it. The voices and sounds didn't sound high pitched and they were in synch, which means the video wasn't sped up, and the times are recorded online, so there was no way he could've faked the time or fooled Atlus with spliced video, unless he found a new way to hack into the ps3 and the Demon's Souls servers.

All records are observable in the Pantheon (upper-most floor of the Nexus).

That's Fast!

Sometimes this kind of thing is a cool challenge for yourself, just to see how good you are.

OK, try this one, Complete Burnout Paradise to 100% (all the offline elements) in under 24 hours). Before Criterion mae the game a bit easier the record (as far as anyone knew) was 17 hours 17 minutes. I've done it in under 24 hours, but it's not easy.

@Scarecrow, a friend of mine actually completed Burnout with the first car you get and only used that first car, no others. Somehow he managed to get everything except the car specific events. It's like running through Uncharted with only a .45 to work with.

@Shams, enjoy. Be aware though, there's several updates that will download (unless they've merged them all) which will take a while depending on your connection, and which version of the game you bought.

The hard thing about doing a Demon souls speed run is that the game auto- saves practically every 2 seconds. In other games, where you save manually, you can keep practicing on a particular part of the game, and only save once you've mastered it completely. Hence, making it easier to record a fast playtime.

What's most impressive of this is his conservation of time. He actually opens the menu to switch his inventory during mandatory real time cut scenes. I watched the first 25 minutes or so and he has everything down to a science. He dies on purpose after flipping the lever to open the gate so he starts off in the beginning level to fight Phalanx. That short cut on 4 when he jukes the BP Black Skeleton to jump off the cliff is frigging amazing.

The most amazing thing is how he rolls through the arrow machine (jesus cross) on 3. Like it was nothing. On his first try. W...T...F.

This dude probably has done nothing over the past 2 years but play this game. That is for sure.

2 hrs 35 is fecking impressive. I took 69 hours, but was doing my typical ridiculous rpg thing of spending so many ludicrous hours levelling up (I was soul level 85 by the end) that I was so overpowered I could most of the demon bossed in about 10 seconds with magic without taking a hit
