GT5 Settles On Intro Theme Song

Music has always been a big part of the Gran Turismo experience, and the introductory song is certainly important.

It has been announced that "Planetary (GO!)" will be the intro theme song for Gran Turismo 5. It's one of the tracks off the new My Chemical Romance album, "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys." Said lead singer Gerard Way:

"Gran Turismo is one of the most beloved videogame franchises of all time, with fans across the globe. Having a song featured as the lead intro to GT5 allows us to reach fans beyond radio and online and into a totally different platform. We are thrilled that our song is going to be the first thing you hear when you boot up the game."

If you're unfamiliar with the song...well, too bad.  You'll have to go find it and listen.  The one at YouTube - the one we originally posted - isn't it; that's just some loser trying to steal a song title, apparently.  Sorry about the confusion. If you can find a link to the real song and want to post it up in the Comments section, feel free to do so.

Anyway, The album in question will be released by Reprise Records on November 22; it's produced by Warner Bros. Records Chairman Rob Cavallo, who also produced MCR's platinum-selling album, "The Black Parade," as well as other albums by Dave Matthews Band, Jawbreaker, and The Goo Goo Dolls.

A part of me died inside listening to that, why I even bothered is beyond me. Their games are absolutely fabulous but Poly's taste in music and mine differ..greatly. As long as I can turn the music off (I prefer to hear the cars anyway), I'm fine with it. There's a sound system in the other room if I really want to hear tunes anyway.

Yep, you're right I just checked (so much to remember that's going into this game now lol). Still, I do prefer hearing the engine sound over any music...even in my own car actually. But, I can always use the sound system on my PC to compete if I really want to listen to something. Have a better sound system there than on my TV lol.

@ Laxpro2001: Definitely agree, I have no idea how this whiny crap could increase the pleasure of driving. I'd be foaming at the mouth to jump out of the car.

Metal or Drum n Bass, and if I'm just out for a leisurely ride, Classical or Jazz.

Remember that each region has its own intro music so whatever comes up for the NA region, its the NA producers to blame, not necessarily PD.

Oh really? Each region has it's own song! Great in that case - I'm importing the Japanese version. Now I'm hoping they put a song like "Before I Decay" by the GazettE as the intro.

I drive a whimpy Hyundai Accent, so the engine isn't louder than my own BREATHING. In fact, the sound of the road whizzing by is louder than the sound of my engine... So... needless to say, I have music on always.

Usually I listen to random mix of whatever's on the ipod, and there is literally almost every genre on it... even stuff in other languages.

Today, though, ipod battery died, so I listened to my Distant Worlds cd's on the way to work! (Orchestral Final Fantasy music all written by Nobuo Uematsu!)

i know... a little pathetic. Could be worse! Yesterday, I played some CoD with friends, and my one buddy was blasting the Cait Sith theme song through his mic at everyone. My friends all knew what it was, but every other CoD kid had no clue. lol. Was fun, at least.

@ Underdog15: Hah, I can relate, I've had wimpy cars in the past. I like the sound of my BMW though, so yeah, I like hearing the engine. When I'm driving I mainly listen to NPR, so yeah typically it's Jazz/Classical lol.

On the rare occasion though, as I said previously, Drum n Bass and Metal if I'm in for a long ride. Helps keep the blood pumpin'.

Not a good song choice IMO. When I think racing game I think intensity. Would have liked to see the song be more progressive. Hopefully the soundtrack is much different than this tune. Thank goodness for custom soundtrack capabilities!

Personally one of the main reasons I liked Burnout 3 so much besides the gameplay was the soundtrack

I hate the term emo to describe music. What it really is is punk with more confessional lyrics and maybe more of a hardcore feel depending on the band. Its name implies emotion which all (good) songs have so I think its kind of silly to name a genre this. To say the least this song can't be emo... there is no emotion whatsoever.

When you break it down it doesnt make a whole lot of sense, but pop culture refers to whiny dicks in black eyeliner as "emo" while they churn out boring power chords and complain about stuff either nobody cares about or is just a normal part of life and they need to grow a pair and get over it.

There are a lot of things in the english language that when broken down make no sense at all.

WTF ever happened to Outkast? When they first came out, I thought, "Finally... rap is going to begin to reform into something more creative and musical." Then they decided to act and make clothes... and rap still sucks. It's been the same for 10+ friggin' years already. GAWD!

But seriously, that is one of the biggest problems with my generation! They think its music but all it really is, is a lyrical styling. It can accompany music and sound good as per RHCP, Alley Life, Public Enemy & Anthrax ect. but people always seem to feed into the same garbage. Yeah, while I'm not a fan (not my type of music, I like Trance/Progressive) I must say they were great live and mid-way through their act Billie Joe grabbed a kid (I'm going to say 13-15) to come on stage and play his guitar and then let him take it home.

In contrast My Chemical Romance kept preaching on girls not sleeping around and not doing drugs. It was pathetic, the lead singer preached more than he sang and when he did sing it was terrible.

If they didnt want to use something techno/electronica they could have at least gone with something like Helicopter by Bloc Party or Don't Rush by Tegan & Sara. I could sit here all day and list songs that are better for GT5.

It sounds like the 'problem' that Wipeout has, except of course Wipeout manages to hit 60 frames by dropping the resolution briefly.

From what I've read, this framerate dip only occurs for a very small amount of time when all 15 opponents in a 16 car race are on screen, and it's raining and each one kicks up it's rooster tail of spray...Perhaps they could degrade the detail level of the weather effects to avoid the framerate dips? Or even drop the detail level on the cars since they're obscured by spray in any case.

Either way, some level of dynamic rendering adjustments are needed like Wipeout to maintain the framerate.

Either they had the band name mixed up, or released the wrong track, or MCR is stealing it for their own(?)

IMO, some of my friends heard that band play live, and they suck like heck. Played like a bunch of amateurs... No wonder they're emo.

Awful!!! I dont even know how this will fit the GT5 intro as their intros are usually upbeat, fast, and fun, and they are usually build up songs too where its starts up slow. Hope they change it!

Ben, hope PD will clear it up. It's clearly not MCR, and I'm all for giving credit where credit is due. It's Typecast's song "Will you ever learn". Whoever mixed it up oughta..well...have this song played glued to his ear and played 1+ gazillion times

this game should have the ability to custom load any song from your hard drive or their playlist just for... well hell everyone at this site at least that thinks that song sucks. you know like the first time we hear it whatever, then have a choice to NEVER HEAR IT AGAIN. then im ok with it.

Yeah, that was a mistake on our part (and the part of others, too, evidently).

The song we posted wasn't it. If anyone wants to find a link to the real thing, go right ahead. Anyway, article fixed.

Been searching for a link, came across a preview from a different song on their album. Just saying it doesn't seem as if the song will suck as much ass as the poser's did. I also found a mini description of the new song but no actual preview yet:

‘Planetary (Go!)’
More straight-ahead rock underpinned by a slight Giorgio Moroder thing going on in the background, giving way to scattershot machine-gunny guitars as the album hits its masculine stride.

Masculine Stride ae? sounds perfect for a car game, can't wait to hear what the real version sounds like.

MCR huh? Well I guess I'll just be watching the intro with my stereo muted. As for racing, I always like the music off.

MCR sucks!!! at least IMO

Hell, they should've used Goliath by The Mars Volta like they did in that old trailer. That would've been badass. And that's saying something considering I don't particularly care for TMV!

Well, I haven't heard it, but it's still not right. I can't understand how MCR are GT5. But then, the track (I swear there was only one) of GTPSP was bloody appalling. Thank goodness for custom tracks in that game.

Anyway, I say put some DragonForce on there... Nothing better for hooking around corners at 70k's an hour... Not that I do that >.>

Ok, whatever that garbage I just found on YouTube is, it's NOT the song to be featured in GT. There's no way.

I went scouring for samples or reviews and found this to be said of the 'Planetary GO!' track. "‘Planetary (Go!)’ More straight-ahead rock underpinned by a slight Giorgio Moroder thing going on in the background, giving way to scattershot machine-gunny guitars as the album hits its masculine stride."

Does anyone have a link to the REAL song? I've never really listened to My Chemical Romance, but I just took a wander over to their MySpace page. The only song off this new album they seem to have released anything of is that 'Na Na Na' song... which is surprisingly upbeat, I wouldn't cry if that was the song PD chose... Still wouldn't be my choice though.

Anyway, nothing will ever compare to GT3's opener. I still get tingles every time I hear Lenny Kravitz's 'Are You Gonna Go My Way'. I had a hard time skipping that intro every time I plugged the game in.

With all the development crap GT5 has been through, if this group/song is the opening/lead for the game... it strengthens the arguement that more developers need to offer customized soundtracks.

Seriously, if GT5 doesn't support custom sound tracks like the PSP version, I'm going to Tokyo and shoving my copy of GT5 up Kazunori Yamauchi's ass.

I'm glad to see that everybody here hates My Chemical Romance. They should be singing the opening theme song for some game for girls because their entire fanbase consists of weird looking girls who can't spell to save their lives. I hated having to play their master recording on Guitar Hero II for the 360.

I hope I can just Press Start and skip the intro immediately.

Oh man, no one here will like my soundtrack, I'm betting. Whenever I'm going for a custom soundtrack, it's never high paced! lol I play music like... Iron and Wine. lol... Of course, I liked a lot of late 90's rock too, so you'll see some OLP and stuff like that thrown in too.

So they go from a kick-ass song by Motley Crue, to whatever the hell this is. Perhaps "1320" by Megadeth would have been a more valid selection. The song is about cars after all. I'd also take Highway star. Deep Purple rocks, too. :)
