Motorcycles For GT5 "If There's A Strong Demand"

Gran Turismo 5 has always been about four-wheel excellence. But two-wheel...?

Just to clarify, motorcycles won't be included when Gran Turismo 5 finally hits store shelves (we're still hoping for late November or early December), but that doesn't mean they won't be added at a later date. Polyphony Digital boss and GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi told PSM3 that if people really want bikes some time down the road, it could happen. In fact, it seems the environment already allows the crotch rockets to exist. Said Yamauchi:

"The environment we have right now allows us to drive motorcycles, but we need to get Gran Turismo 5 done first. Once that's out of the way, if there's a strong demand for bikes, that's something we'd consider."

There was a point when it was rumored that motorbikes would indeed be in the game when it first released, but that's over with now. Still, the very idea that they could show up remains, and it almost seems inevitable we'll see them in the form of future DLC. I mean, who's going to say they don't want to try motorcycles in GT5? That ought to be quite the insane thing but just remember, realism and authenticity on a motorcycle is a lot different. You really will have to start from scratch with the learning process.

It'll happen. I saw a screen shot of GTHD from a few years ago with the bikes offered as a selectable vehicle next to some cars.

Speaking of GT5 DLC, they'll get my money for every piece of DLC they offer.

Burnout Paradise added bikes, which worked and sparked a whole load of DLC, naybe for GT5

Same here if there is DLC I'll be picking up them all. I think motorcycles would be awesome in GT, I just haven't liked them in previous games like midnight club, I do not enjoy the bikes in it.
If PD does release a DLC for bikes I'll buy it because I know PD will do a very good job making a motorcycle simulator.
What if they had an option to race your bike along with others driving there cars, now that would be pretty cool, maybe for online?

Not sure stangman. It would add another 100-1000 leaderboard positions though.

I like the idea of bikes in GT5 because its nothing more then variety, and that is a good thing.

K glad his quote actually noted that they need to finish te game first! I was gonna go nuts if their already talkin bout dlc when we don't even have a release date!

It would be nice to have bikes also! Shoot it's gonna have everything else! And I assume since we prolly won't see GT6 until well into the PS4 life cycle, just do what you can with GT5!

I want all of you to bust out those email programs and start demanding. I know I will. I would love to see some motorcycles in GT5. I have yet to play a motorcycle simulator that could hold up and I think PD is just the company to do it.

In all seriousness though, I'd love to see some motorcycles. If they can add freakin' go-karts, motorcycles are a no-brainer.

Tbh, i do like bikes and think it would be a nice add-on for gt5 if people wanted it.

But so far, ive never really liked the feel of any motobike sims ive played and thus generally avoid them.

But it would be interesting to see what PD can come up with.

Anyways PD, i know you want to fit every single little thing into the game, but please wait untill gt6 and lets us play gt5 :P.

No. The good people at Polyphony already went on record as saying they do not want GT5 to have DLC. I can't remember where I read that though. So, Kazunori, no. Although, I wouldn't be averse to seeing motorbikes as the sole big addition to GT6. In about three years, just after the release of the PS4.

Just give a date for this one, yeah?

If they do as Criterion sort of did and have a small team (not the core devs) working on the DLC for the existing game, and then their core team working on GT6. Given it took 5 years to bring GT5 to fruition, they'd be crazy not to offer some DLC to keep people interested in the 4-5 year wait for the next game.

That the thing though, isn't it? Now that they've got all of the assets and whatnot that they need to work on the PS3, should the next iteration take a considerably shorter amount of time? Trust me, I get that DLC will extend the longevity of the game, but I honestly think that the core game will be enough to sate most gamers for a LONG time. With close to one thousand cars available, as well as a rather ridiculous number of options, and the addictiveness of racing games (to me anyway), I would expect people to still be playing GT5 for many years to come. I know that it will probably be my go-to game when things get slow.

This is how Burnout Paradise grew. To be honest, I hope they add bikes, more courses and special cars/skins through DLC (both free and paid). It will help drive increased numbers of users as well as increasing the replay value and longevity of the game.

Boo, I'm here behind ya, World!!!

Although I dislike rice burners, I still say yes to MC's in the game & I'm sure it will be true perfection on PD's part.
But make it a D/C later, and maybe call it, GT5 Tourist Trophy 1.5.

LV, so how are you liking The Saboteur so far?
I only have 2 free-play missions left to do in it, out of 350(the Ferris wheel & 1 building to search of the booty), but I got stuck trying to find the right way up to those 2 spots.
I loved the game & it's one of my all-time. favorites, along with MGS4, FarCry2, inFamous, & GTA4(so far). LOL, I guess I like the more wide open sand-box games with lots of missions the best.

Anyway, between playing Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising & GTA4 right now, I've been getting little bits & pieces in on JC2 also, but so far I've been having trouble grappling that damned enemy helo in just the right spot. Seems I keep hitting the undercarriage & then can't loop around to machine gun the passenger & oust the pilot just yet.
I guess I seem to have trouble with helo's altogether, cause I've also had a bunch of trouble piloting the one's in GTA4 too

Oh well, I just need to practice practice, practice.....and buy a few tons of extra patience from somewhere.

PD, I am here to tell you something. I like how you are giving us this wonderful DLC and all but there is one problem. You need to release the game to give out DLC. I am not complaining about the game or the cycles it's just that you need to give me the game, sooner rather than later please.

World, Nor would they do any touring models like mine(although my 80 CI motor's been replaced with a bigger 100 CI one, plus an added hot cam, & straight un-baffled shotgun pipes, that make it run like a raped ape).

Unfortunately, that huge batwing sized fairing on the front of mine will only allow me to top off at 121-124 MPH right now, because the wind buffets it, causing front wheel wobble at any higher speed.

Isn't the situation embarrassing enough? Does Yamauchi really have to open his mouth and tell us about future possibilities for GT5?

I think at this point, he reeeeeally needs to shut his yap and get people the game they were promised. Once the late arrival blows over, then he can talk up future dlc.

What I want from GT5 is GT5, lol. Honestly though, bikes are cool but it's not like they have handles-controllers out there for the "true" feel of riding one in the game. They have wheel-controllers, which is why people enjoy GT5 so much. I personally wouldn't buy the wheel attachment but for those hardcore-I want to learn how to drive one of these cars in real life people..I see why they would.

This DLC will not effect the release date of the game.
The DLC for bikes will be added a while after GT5 actually release this "very" early December.
Don't worry the wait will be worth it when it releases, calm down it will be here and when it does, it will be perfection.

lost interest in this when they delayed it.
the lackluster demo i played at the motor show completely destroyed any interest left in me!
will need to add allot more than motorcycles to get me back in!
on a side note, just bought a G27 for 400 bucks.
not bad considering most sites including EB want over 550 for it!

Yamauchi should lay off the interviews until he gets his job done. As far as bikes, whatever. I'd much MUCH prefer that any DLC be additional tracks. Sounds like this game won't have nearly as many as GT4. I'll buy whatever DLC they make on day 1 - but of course they'll actually have to release the &$^#* game before anything like that could happen.

Holy jeebus people, seems like some of you don't read so well. Yamauchi-san himself said they were planning on releasing the game BEFORE CONSIDERING DLC.

As GT fans we should all be used to seemingly endless delays by now, tho it has been infuriating but you KNOW it's gonna be effin amazing once it's in our hands. And we all also know that regardless of the delays we will still buy the game...they aren't losing any fans because they delay to release the best game possible.

And finally for the many doubters out there: PD has ALREADY made a motorcycle simulator for the PS2 - TouristTrophy which was positively excellent. I'd think it wouldn't be much work for them to update and drop into the GT5 world. I would certainly purchase it.
