Sony Liverpool Prepping New Wipeout?

Wipeout HD is still one of the best downloadable games available, which is why we'd be excited to learn about another series installment.

Evidently, a certain job listing at Wipeout developer Sony Liverpool's website hints at the possibility of a new racing project. It's a job for Senior Designer who will "work with a talented and experienced team on a high profile racing franchise." Well, what other franchise can they be talking about? Some time ago, we had heard that this studio was forced to lay off a bunch of people, but there were always rumors concerning more Wipeout entries. If you never got a chance to play Wipeout HD, you can now pick it up in Blu-Ray disc form; it includes the Fury expansion as well. Personally, this is one of my all-time favorite racing franchises; its fluidity and slickness have always been second-to-none, and if one is looking for technical proficiency, it doesn't get much better. So here's hoping a new Wipeout is on the way...perhaps one that takes full advantage of the PS3!

We'll let you know what we can find. For the time being, Sony has refused to offer any comment on the matter.

Gladly downloaded the game for free a few months back thanks to being a Plus member. It's not really my style of gaming but the graphics and art design are amazing.

That sucks. I suggest you duplicate my methods. Every Tuesday night after the PSN has been updated I check out Joystiq since they offer up updates on all the new PSN content, including Plus member stuff. That way you don't miss anything.

...or you can go to the PS Blog, which posts the full list when the Store is updated or you can just log in to the PSN Store every Tuesday night and look.

I didn't mean this to sound snarky if it does.

On topic: I've played exactly one race since I downloaded WipEout HD (for half-price). Not because it's a bad game (far from it), but it's never my first choice.

Awesome awesome awesome, HD and Fury were both Day 1 launches for me. Have and will always love the franchise, and the additional gameplay that came with Fury was extremely fun.

As with Polyphony Digital, I don't need to hope for greatness, just for a launch date :)

Never played one of these games, but have been wanting to since I first heard about Pure on the PSP. Now the problem is that I can't track down a copy... If this is true, I may have to get it as soon as I can.
Peace.

You're not mistaken, but my PS3 isn't hooked up. I know, I'm missing out on so much, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

^This! A new Wipeout has always been reason for celebration! That and egg-nog season. What can i say, i'm a man of simple tastes. I think they never were able to recreate the feel and finesse of XL, but still, after Fusion (Pure, Pulse, HD/Fury) every iteration was and is ace. I even got my hands on Wipeout xl and Wipeout 3 so i could rip the soundtracks from the CD's to play on the custom soundtracks for Pulse and HD/Fury to relive some of the nostalgia everytime i play. Glad to see the franchise is being kept alive even after the assimilation of Studio Liverpool with Studio Evolution.

especially in 3D, really brings the game to life.
would love to see a sequel, we need more of these types of fast paced games.

One of the best downloadable games I have ever played, 1080p 60fps solid. If you are a racer you cannot miss this. And if you want to lose a race, send me an invite, I'm MOGUNS82.

I've got one word to say about WipeOut HD.......Metropia! Its the slickest baddest track in the game. I estimate that I've raced that track with the Assegai over 20,000 times. I can only imagine how cool this franchise will be in 3D.

The BluRay version only came out outside the U.S. -- Europe for sure, maybe Asia too. A lot of PSN games are released on BD overseas: The Last Guy, PixelJunk Collection, Pain, R&C Quest for Booty, etc...
