Gran Turismo 5 Introduces The Fastest Car In The World

What is the fastest car in the world? Bugatti? Not so fast...ha!...get it?

You've probably heard about the new X1 Prototype that will be included in Gran Turismo 5, but you probably haven't seen the real thing in action. A full gameplay trailer, complete with all sorts of track footage, is below, and it's just plain mind-boggling. If we can imagine racing without safety restrictions, these guys could create a vehicle that can turn a lap on the famed Nurburgring track in about 1:04, and features a top speed of 280mph with a lateral acceleration of 8.75Gs. W...T...F.

A miracle of modern technology, the X1 is the next step in automotive speed and performance. This one is probably out of the realm of handling if you aren't a professional like Sebastian Vettel but that doesn't mean you can't try. Said Adrian Newey, Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull Racing.

all i keep thinking when i think about this game is that i want to get the wheel and pedels and make a rig for it all. this will be a game that requires that bad ass wheel logitech makes.

I want the shoes.

That setup is actually pretty normal, unless you're talking about the big TV, wheel, and Recaro seats. Those are always nice to have. If you have a table, you can easily mimic that set up. For example, leather office chair, DFGT, and 32 inch TV on the table.

The impressive ones imo are the one that mimic a real car or F1. Where the seating position and the pedals are similar to what it would be in a real car...like the set ups at TGS, E3, etc. Gives it that much closer to a more realistic experience on games like GT5.

That would actually be good, otherwise every online race in "unlimited" or whatever class would be in that car, which would get old fast. Just like I got really sick of that Lamborghini Murcielago in Need For Speed Shift.

I think it's a virtual car based on the real designs. If you build an F1 car with no engine, tire or aerodynamic limits, you could really build a monster. That appears to be what they have done with this one. If it can really pull 8.75 lateral G, I'm not sure that there is a driver that could handle it in reality, which places the driver as a limitation on the reality.

Fighter pilots can handle 9G's. All that's required is a special suit.

Come to think of it, any car that requires a fighter pilot's anti-G suit is something I want to drive in GT5.

Real world would be nice too.

haha I don't think anyone is going to be pissed off enough to not buy this game. Face it, its going to be sick and we've waited long enough anyway. And they've actually been hard at work on it.

Now if SE was doing something like this that would be a different story since they suck.

Actually I think this guy could be part of the resurgence of 360 fanboys since that is his first and only post and they are probably jealous that the most epic (tentative) racer is exclusive to PS3

I say tentative because I haven't played it yet, but thats a weak tentative as I have very high hopes.

Microsoft's marketing machine has gone into overdrive with Kinect, I think that this has whipped the Xbox360 fan base into something of a frenzy here in the US. The Eye of Moron has therefore received a new infusion of enthusiastic participants, which is why we see a resurgence of senseless argument on gaming sites. Of course I would *NOT* rule out some paid activity - aka astroturfing - going on. Marketers call that kind of thing a grass-roots campaign, and they typically employ people to make posts on forums and blogs across the net to create the impression of a customer led grass-roots movement which is in fact generated by corporate activity. It may be sustained by real customers - in this case Xbox360 fanboys, but it starts with a cynical marketing decision to compete by dragging down your competition instead of on the merits of your product.

How can he handle a car that quick in GT?
It's already scary enough watching him handling the car perfectly.

And that would be Vettel's best time ever on the Nurburgring circuit lol.

The enclosed tires allow for an unheard of amount of downforce on this car. Although, what's really crazy is it's real wheel drive.

OK, I'll be the first to admit it. I actually thought the part where it just shows different camera angles of the car racing around the track was real (Starts at 3:03 in the video), despite knowing beforehand that the car doesn't exist outside of the game. Those graphics look amazing

The specs on GT Planet are also incorrect, they originally announced with a Gas Turbine engine, which has since been replaced with a Direct Injection, Twin Turbo Straight 6.

8.75gs, mentioned in this article is also incorrect.

The one at GTplanet last week was from a magazine, and that also had the wrong top speed, which was stated at 249mph. Makes me wonder how much I should trust magazines in the future.

In looking at all of the X1 Photo's on Gt's site,picture #22 actually look like it's the next generation Batmobile.

Just just re-paint the X1 black, & add a few bat logo's to it

Btw you're right, as far as road cars go, the Bugatti SS is king (followed closely by the Shelby Ultimate Aero SSC).

This however, blows the doors off of it on all levels of performance (which is appropriate, given it's a race car, and not a road car).

No release date was ever given, period. A worker claiming that it'll probably launch shortly after Japan's date, does not qualify as an official announcement, any more than a magic 8-ball accurately predicts the future.

Or have you forgotten that the original Gran Turismo (which has roughly the same dev time as Gran Turismo 5), took 5 extra months to release in NA/EU regions after it's launch in Japan?

Red Dead Redemption, No other game was so groundbreaking new and extremely good as Red Dead Redemption. There is no game that deserves it more, just look at the DLC. Amazing product.

Quick correction, it is Nurburgring, but it's actually the Grand Prix course, not the full 13 mile track that everyone's thinking. 1:04 would be a ridiculous time to post for the 147 corners on the full track.

Either way, that is a HELL of a car. I can't even imagine what it'd be like to drive that thing. Can't WAIT! Only a few more measly weeks! (I think)

LOL. that's insane. I think you'd pass out with those sorts of G forces :) I was looking at the car list on GT Planet the other day - extremely impressive. A whole stable of classic Mustangs, including all the Boss Mustangs. I'm looking forward to driving my cars, both of which are available in the game: 1970 Mach 1 Mustang and my fabulous '99 Chevy Cavalier Z24 :)

Not really, if Sony really was planning on having 7 million units ready to ship with the games launch, I can imagine it'll take a few for them to get that amount of surplus printed and boxed. (Reboxed actually, as close as we were to launch, it's likely all or the majority of units had already been printed.)

Definitely unfortunate it was delayed, but I agree if it's to counter piracy. This is one game I think people should get the death penalty for pirating.

A slight mistype of information. It's maximum lateral G is actually about 8.25 not 8.75, but yeah, no big deal. To those that are curious, trained humans can handle that as it is very, very close (theoretically) to the max on what our body can handle. It is, after all, what jet fighters go through.

Obviously they're referring to two different bits of physics if they have two different metrics regarding them.

Lateral Acceleration refers to cornering yes, however, what they're discussing in the article when they state 8.75g's, is the maximum the car's structure can handle.

When they discuss the 8.25g metric, they're referring to how much downforce the car creates with it's aerodynamic qualities.

As I said, re-read the article. However, just so you know I will admit, I had to re-read the article also, simply to be able to explain it properly lol.

That footage is absolutly awe inspiring. GT5 is so above and beyond in polish that I can hardly explain how excited I am for this.

I used to race auto cross with my STi, and that was scary as hell at times. I am so excited that this game will without a doubt, put that fear and excitment back into my life, as health issues have stoped me from racing again. I am so excited for this game.
