Metal Gear Movie Official
It's official! Konami has confirmed that a Metal Gear Solid movie is now underway. Konami and Sony Pictures have finalized a contract that grants Sony exclusive film-making rights for the franchise. "I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid. It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement," Kojima said in a statement. "False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood."
The news was first discovered in a pamphlet for Studio Kojima, and would later be confirmed by both Sony Pictures Entertainment vice-chairman Yair Landau and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima himself. Landau spoke to our friends at GameSpot after his DICE keynote address and stated: "We're working with the Metal Gear guys. It's a very cinematic game, it really lends itself to movie-telling. But the question is, 'How do you translate Snake's experience into a full arc that conforms to what audiences expect on the large screen?'"
Landau let a few tidbits about an upcoming Everquest movie slip too, mentioning that he's got one of his favorite producers onboard for the project. "There are other games we are looking to develop," he said. "We're working with one of my favorite producers right now on an idea for an EverQuest movie." He wouldn't mention who this high-profile producer is and simply told GameSpot "I'll let him disclose that". Hrmm...anyone wanna' place a bet? I'm going to go with Spielberg. Lord knows it better not be Spike Lee, I'm not really sure how I'd feel about elves in da' hood.
