Level-5 Has Big Plans For White Knight Chronicles 2

White Knight Chronicles 2 has been out in Japan since July 8 (lucky, lucky), but there's good news: Level-5 has a lot more to add, and all that extra stuff should - theoretically - come packed into the US version of the game.

Based on new details in this week's Famitsu and as summarized by Andriasang, Level-5 intends to enhance and upgrade their sequel" in (or beyond) January of 2011, they'll toss in a whole new "story quest" element; they basically let you experience a fresh story with your avatar as the main character. In this new mode, you'll find new maps, knights and enemies. Then, planned for Spring (or beyond), the game will net a "Guild System." This let you and your allies create a shared space on Geonet with a message board, rooms, and shops. Everything will only be accessible by members of your guild, which will have a reputation parameter as well. The higher the reputation, the the higher the guild level, and that translates to fancier rooms and shops. Other updates planned are:

  • New equipment items
  • New functionality for message boards (including favorite lists)
  • Tab view and genre-based organization option for journal entries
  • New colors and parts for your Arc Knight
  • Seasonal Georama parts
  • New types of quests, including quests with mega tough bosses, time attack quests and "free hunt quests" which allow you to enjoy combat and item collection without worrying about time, guild rank or level.

WKC2 is a game fans of the original most definitely want. Hopefully, Level-5 will deliver a US release date before long, and when the game finally does arrive, all this cool stuff might be included...

It better not take a year and a half to localize it this time.
I had wanted to get WKC but since WKC2 has WKC in it, I held myself back for it.

Great news.
I really enjoyed the first one, and I hope the sequel brings a lot more attention to the series.

I'm wondering if I can learn Japanese before the game comes out so I can just buy an import.

So, they're going to Morph the game into some kind of MMORPG?

I'll never turn down additional content, and I'm anxiously awaiting the US release of this, but I don't need or want an MMORPG in my life.

You are guaranteed a more complete single player game than before. L5 have heard the crys for a longer less tedious single player and 2 has it. A full on Rpg single player worth 60hrs.

They're just making everything else a ton better too. Fear not.

I mean, doesn't that whole single player addition dedicated to your avatar sound amazing?!

Do you have the first one? This sounds in line with the 1sts online component, which was genius.

Yeah, I have the first one and played all the way through. I'll get WKC2 for sure. I'm not not a big MMORPG fan. the online component in the first game was OK, but leveling in the guild was ridiculously difficult and time consuming, so my Geonet space remained woefully small and village like. If they fix that, I'll be happy.

Thats the only complaint I had too, but if you don't have to grind at the same missions this time around I can see myself going through all of them.

I wish they would find a new art direction. Didn't dig the cheap unoriginal amine look of the first one. There are some animes that look unique like Akira, Ni No Kuni, Vampire Hunter D etc. White Knight was too Salor Moonish.

WKC... I really should go back to it. It was fun and easy. Just the story... gah! That wasn't great man.

WKC2 will be better because you get the original story plus the new story and any additional bits and pieces they throw in, and even better than that, you play it all as one game, instead of two separate games...

Ooof. I didn't know that. I'd have to play the first one all over again before getting to the part 2 stuff? Or can I skip it?

Was gonna get New Vegas for my freebie but by the time I get to play it goty edition will prob be out. Dead Space 2 and Brotherhood, KZ3, and Dragons Age 2 will keep me plenty busy while waiting.

The PS3 needs more RPGs, that fact alone will result in me getting this game on Day1.

I'm disappointed in you folks that are waiting for the second to play the first. It's about as close to a classic JRPG as you are going to get on the PS3 and we don't even have a guarantee the first game will be a pack-in in the US.

This news on the online is cool because this was one of the very few games with online that used it in a fun way that even got me into it. The only thing I want is for the Guild ranks to be easier to obtain. The online was fun, but I don't really want to put a hundred hours into it just to gain a high guild rank and unlock missions.

Anyway, this is a preorder, day 1, gimme gimme gimme. Can't wait to take my sexy little redhead on her own adventure :)

OH SWEET BABY JESUS !!!
I'm so STOKED about. This bit of news. The 1st wkc was sick. Been waitin forever for wkc2. And now we find out this awesome news ! That's wicked. Its about time my avatar will be the main character of the story. Even though I ran around as my avi in the 1st one. But now a story dedicated to your avi? SWEE-EET!!! When this game comes out, I'm lookin to buy day 1, or perhaps it will be my very first pre-order. Either way I'm not gonna be missin out on a single minute of wkc2 awesomeness. And the whole guild functionality of wkc2 sound friggin epic. Can't wait. I feel like I just touched my 1st tata again.

Check the forums. You can usually find a clan or such for most games there

Anyone who has me added on PSN knows how much I love the first WKC...

That game is so beautiful. The story might not be as long as regular rpgs but it felt like a complete story. Or in more detail it felt like a classic rpg journey. It actually reminds me of classic FF, FFV and VI to be exact. The characters are all likable, well imo.

Getting this game day 1. So looking forward to "your character's story/quests."

These updates sound great, they better announce a release date for the US version ASAP.

Wow... sounds sick. So now we're getting... four games for the price of one? WKC (and the DLC?) and WKC2 (and the DLC?). Talk about budget buying. I wanted to get the first, but wasn't sure if it would be at all my style, so I was waiting for a price drop.

The price didn't drop before the announcement that the second would come bundled with the first, which resulted in me deciding to wait until it releases. So, with that in mind, when you give us an update on the US release, could you also do the same for the Euro release, at while you're at it, see if you can dig up any news on Dogma Wars?
Peace.

After the announcement regarding WKC1 coming with the sequal it really made me regret buying it though how quickly the price dropped (same with FFXIII) made it wish I had waited a couple months. Did L5 give any sort of in game reward for having the original version of the first game?

I still need to get back to it, get my characters to max level and do the New Game+ as I only finished the story once (it ended abrupt but I didn't hate it) and play through it a few times. Do more of the online stuff too...
