Activision Will Launch Call Of Duty FPS In Late 2011

Psst...hey. Get this. Big surprise announcement...no way you were anticipating it. Might be the surprise of the generation...

Believe it or not, Activision Blizzard issued a solid earnings report and then confirmed that another Call of Duty FPS will launch in 2011. Activision Publishing Eric Hirshberg first made the astonishing statement- "We will launch a new first-person action title during the back half of 2011" and then, as if it needed further explanation, COO Thomas Tippl added, "next year's Call of Duty will be a first-person shooter." They didn't offer any details but most are expecting Modern Warfare 3, which has been rumored to be in development at a freshly-staffed Infinity Ward. We also know about another CoD project that is currently in the works at Sledgehammer Games; at first, it was labeled as an "action/adventure" game but recent job listings have sort of clarified that it'll be a FPS as well. Now, we know you're probably in shock upon hearing this news but if you really think about it, it didn't come totally out of the blue. I mean, billions of dollars is sort of...a lot of money. So yeah, maybe we should've seen this coming.

...anyway. If we give out an award for most predictable news story during our end-of-year awards, we've got the guaranteed winner right here.

I want a third person cover shooter for call of duty. After Black Ops im not buying anymore until they do that and add their own map editor so i dont have to pay 15.00 for 3 maps

A map editor?, that would be so sweet. modify/build your own map then be able to play online with your friends that would be epic!... Only Sony would do something like that... @Sony.

It's funny nothing like that has been done. I used to make levels for DOOM that my best friend and I would play online via modem. It was so sweet to make themed levels. Cyberdemons aplenty let me tell you.

well far cry 2 has a complete map editor. That one part of the game adds so much more value to a game. Look it up on youtube if you havent seen it and its for consoles too. Its so much fun making real masterpieces. I honestly hate forge

You can count me out as one of the sheeples, because I'm not getting Black Ops.

I know, it's very weird for a teenager to not get the next COD game O.o, but I'm not getting it because I already have many other titles that I've already acquired that are more worthy of my time, and of more higher priority (that I'm also still playing, and just a few examples are Mass Effect 2, Bioshock, Halo: Reach, Red Dead Redemption, replaying Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2, etc.).

I don't hate COD though, but MW2 was a bit of a disappointment compared to WaW, COD4, and before them in my opinion.

I may not even get the next COD next year to be honest because around then (i.e. late 2011), examples such as Resistance 3, Team ICO collection, and The Last Guardian are all primed to release around that time.

More important and of higher priority, don't you think ;)?

Hopefully this "freshly staffed" studio knows more then Copy, paste.
I really enjoyed COD4 MW, but hated MW2 because it was the same game, just hyped the hack out of and in many ways was worse.
Maybe these people can deliver a good game, but just because it has COD on the cover I most likely won't get it. I don't like judging a game this soon before any info about the game comes out, but after MW2, COD sucks

I'd like to start an official anti-CoD caucus. I know Kotex wants one per year, but why not mix it up? Make a TPS, make a Helicopter combat game. Do SOMEthing that looks new. Then again, you gotta keep the sheep fed.

the good thing is that with 3 teams pumping out COD games they have two years to work on each title instead of just one. Which might lead to games without all the glitches, and maybe some nice pretty graphics

NO! We cannot focus on Black Ops! The world doesn't revolve around your cheesy obsession with CoD, you should realize not everyone is concerned with getting Black Ops, I have dozens of friends that appreciate variety in their gaming. I thought Sledgehammer's title was dubbed an action/FPS. Thus, it kind of makes sense that it will be that one which releases at the end of next year and MW3 in 2012... Maybe that's what'll bring about the apocalypse. The internet servers will overload on the 21st of December 2012 because half of the world will try to log on and play MW3 at the same time, thus causing civilisation to fall apart as all technology goes haywire.

Sounds like a plot for a B-Movie.

Plaese keep the CoDs comin. I like my CoDs. Especially CoD4. Mw2 is ok, WaW only for Nazis, BO out soon.... Why Cant 1 company make a Ps3 exclusive and another one malke a Xbox exclusive... Oo thats right, Ps3 without a doubt will be far better...

I am all for happy gaming, don't get me wrong. I am getting Black Ops and it ->Will<- be my final CoD, it seems like they crammed a bunch of fun stuff into BO namely, President Evil! Haha, but seriously we cannot keep supporting this, after I get my game written and hopefully created I look forward to the day if Bobby Kotek asks me, "Hey do you want Activision to publish your game?" My response would be HELL NO! You are the same arrogant D Bag that thinks he can sell cut-scenes and thinks he rules the FPS genre of gaming which he doesn't!

Why would anyone want any other CoD after this one? Does repetition not get to you like it does me? What about the other franchises? I have people telling me the KZ3 beta is making the game appear a GOTY contender and it is months away, and in the Pre-Aplha stages none the less!

i will look to purchase Black OP's when i can find it cheap enough pre-owned so i can ensure that Activision do get a penney off me and hopefully it will drive them to push the franchise to a MMO which hopefully will mean many sheeple out there will realise the error of thier ways and open there eyes to other fantastic games.
On a serious note though COD sucess is great for Activision but bad for the industry. If gamers continue to support Koticks vision then in 10-20 years will developers still create new IP's ? i'm just not sure
