Yamauchi: "It's Too Early To Be Talking About GT6"

Every day, there's another Gran Turismo 5 release date update. Sorry about that. But it does qualify as news and besides, this sort of involves GT6...

The last assembly of information was somewhat encouraging, as we heard from GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi and noticed that the Sony Style store listed GT5 with an approximate November 30 date. Then there's that gonna-be-infamous-if-it-doesn't-come-out-this-year comment from Yamauchi, "the discs are being stamped as we speak." Now we know an announcement should be nigh but here's another little tidbit: Yamauchi confirmed that work had already begun on Gran Turismo 6. This was part of Autoweek's interview that gave us the initial GT5 update from SEMA. Of course, the GT guru wasn't about to talk about the next installment just yet:

"It's not something that we can talk that lightly on. It took 2,000 days to get all the ideas that went into GT5. It's just too early to be talking about GT6."

Well yeah, you think? Let's somehow manage to get GT5 on store shelves first, shall we? Based on the current state of affairs, we're wondering if GT6 might actually be on the next generation of consoles; i.e., the PlayStation 4. It may seem unlikely on the surface but at this juncture...who knows? For the record, we're expecting a release date announcement next week. Just a guess. No, really.

I'm glad you have up-to-date GT5 news on here, for me it is one of the most anticipated games of this generation.

I read some of the comments after your last update on GT5 Ben, I don't get it, if they don't want GT5 news, what news do they want?

It is definitely too early to be talking about GT6. Imagine Sony talking about PS5 now, PS4 is not even out yet, you would think they've gone mad.

sony often says they dont have anything to say until there is something to say. maybe they will secretly ship all the games out. not tell anyone. then it appears at stores and preorders start flying out. suddenly 6 people are dead in a store riot trampled by the gt fans... this could be bad sony should just tell us what day already.

I dont mind the up to date information and continuous posts on the same subject... What frustrates me is that you have to go through the trouble Ben, when we all should be playing this game as we speak!

My opinion is post away of theirs multiple news stories on one subject. Just hopefully that next one will be an actual release date for GT5. ;)

You're right Ben, can PD not mention GT6 in the first place, as that can make the gamer believe that GT6 will be a superior product than GT5, and as a result, not buy it?

That would be equivalent to Sony launching the PS3, only to have announced shortly after that they've already been going through the prototype phase for the PS4.

I see GT6 out for the PS4(GT6 launched along side of the PS4, hopefully as a bundle). But yes it is to soon to talk about GT6. GT5 will be out in less then a month or so. GT5 will last a very long time 3-4 years. I plan on playing GT5 right up to the GT6 release. GT5 is all I care about right now, it's perfection. Perfection that will be replayed and replayed for a very long time.

I don't even WANT the game and I really want them to just release the confounded thing. If the actual stamping of all products was happening then they would have a release date already. Something is hitching them up for sure. Maybe they need to have a few hours worth of patching to be ready upon release you know?

Gt6 most likely be out for the PS4 somewhere 2020
If it took them 5 years & counting to release gt5 then starting from scratch for the PS4 on 2160p resolution then 2020 sounds ok as of now.

PD stop covering the fact that you haven't released gt5 with meanless news. Give us what matters to us at the pressent. Which is a GT5 official release.

i am sick of fasting moving gaming world, can we just slow down and let the gamer really focus on sth great, and enjoy for a while before onto sth else? the problem of modern world is too short of attention spam, nothing great coming out of that, and even great things lose its meaning if they only get a little time of focused attention....

Seriously though, if sony and polyphony manages to release the next gran turismo game as a launch title for the next playstation would be big because we know microsoft is gonna prematurely start the next gen consoles again. even if they get another 1 year head start, gran turismos release would offset that, a guaranteed system seller.

there are estimations that next gen consoles should be expected between 2012-13, so its a safe bet that gt6 will be for the next gen.

I personally think that GT6 will release in late 2013, as it will certainly have a shortened dev time, given that PD has almost perfected the engine they want. It will also be the swansong for the PS3 I'm thinking. But, why are we all so forward thinking. We anticipate games that aren't going to be out for another year while plodding through the latest titles as if they're worthless.

And if this guy thinks it's too early to be talking about GT6, then why the hell is he bringing it up? Oh, game devs confuse me, but I would so love to be one. I have the ideas...

I would sort of think that GT6 wouldn't take nearly as long as GT5. They've already got all the PS3 programming done, so they just need to add more cars, more tracks and tweak things.

So yeah, I'm thinking only 4 1/2 years :)
