Gunmen Rob GameStop, Snag 100+ Copies Of Black Ops
Did you know that Call of Duty: Black Ops comes out this week? Did you also know it has already turned some people into raving loons?
According to The Baltimore Sun, armed robbers stole cash and over 100 copies of Black Ops from a Harford County GameStop this past weekend. At least two men were involved; they wielded semi-automatic weapons and carried away four cases full of Activision's latest CoD installment, as well as cash and hardware. Unfortunately, this must be a dangerous region, as it's the second Harford County GameStop location to get robbed in less than three weeks. What's worse is that two customers entered the store while the robbery was in progress and the gunmen forced the shoppers into a storage area, although nobody was hurt in the process. As a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office told reporters, the games stolen weren't allowed to go on sale until Tuesday; perhaps it's a fair assumption that Black Ops was the "inspiration" behind the robbery. But if that's the case, we'd just like to know what they intend to do with those 100+ copies...do they think they're going to find desperate buyers who simply can't wait until Tuesday?
Maybe. But if you're paying a large sum of money to play Black Ops - or really, any video game - a few days before it's available, you just don't have enough to do.

All I can suggest is that if anyone cares, they'd keep a close lookout on Black Ops listed near robbery location (cities, state) at a steal price on ebay & report it.
They really need to amp up security and offer a better line of protection when it comes to these things. I mean real security, not those rent-a-cops with neon yellow shirts on.

Tomorrow's headline: "After a robbery at the Harford County Gamestop, which included numerous consoles, a large pile of non-functioning 360s were discovered by the front door of the shop today. Police hold out no hope of the return of the Playstation 3 units stolen in the robbery."

there would of been heaps of games in the store yet to be released.
assassins creed is already in stores, so is NFS hot pursuit, i saw them there today.
i doubt people would pay handsomely to get a game a day or 2 early, but get a game 2+ weeks early?
hell apparently some game stores have a few copies of GT5 already!
a user on the GT forums had a few pics of the case with disk inside with manual and PSN voucher.

You guys underestimate how far the 'no-life geeks' of the world will go.
It was reported that GT5 has been or will soon be sent to stores in europe, and that it was the reason for the delay, to make sure they could flood the market at once.

either that, or more money than brains..... no, probably both.
sony are not that stupid, they have lost heaps of sales due to the delay its not because of that.
its because they had to update the SDK thats why they missed there gold date by 3 days and thats why there manufacturing the game now, when it should of been out 5 days ago!

LOL joking.... on another note... that's hmmm.... new..... guess robbing Gamestop isn't hard to do - but then again who would have thought something like this would actually happen. Guess those who pre-ordered the game from that county won't be very happy.

If they start selling the copies early suspicion can and will rise... Note to any and all consumers... If your buying a copy of any game from a private party 2 days before release, it's probably stolen! Don't be as dumb as te robbers and buy it, especially at an inflated price.
Second thing is, if the robbers know anything bout gaming, they would know that marking up a game that most people play for the mp, would be dumb. The servers would not be up yet And even if they are you'll be playing with the people involved in stealing and buying the stolen games. Could make for good conversation tho! so to play online a couple days early probably wouldn't happen. Again consumers, this is why you shouldn't buy black ops for an inflated price Cus chances are you won't be playing online til midnight tonite anyways...
Chances are though that treyarch an black ops should boast a full, good campaign, so maybe it was worth it?

Or freaking geniuses.
while armed robbery is seldom a smart thing to do, snagging 100 copies of the hottest game of the week (if not the month, at least) was very smart. those discs are worth $100 to the elite COD players who rule the leaderboards. surely there are 100 ebayers willing to pay exorbitant amounts for a head start at it.
while the method is questionable (a bit brash, maybe), and, among other things, /illegal/, they were undoubtedly the most valuable things in that store. thered be a news article on how stupid they were if they had left them.
