Gunmen Rob GameStop, Snag 100+ Copies Of Black Ops

Did you know that Call of Duty: Black Ops comes out this week? Did you also know it has already turned some people into raving loons?

According to The Baltimore Sun, armed robbers stole cash and over 100 copies of Black Ops from a Harford County GameStop this past weekend. At least two men were involved; they wielded semi-automatic weapons and carried away four cases full of Activision's latest CoD installment, as well as cash and hardware. Unfortunately, this must be a dangerous region, as it's the second Harford County GameStop location to get robbed in less than three weeks. What's worse is that two customers entered the store while the robbery was in progress and the gunmen forced the shoppers into a storage area, although nobody was hurt in the process. As a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office told reporters, the games stolen weren't allowed to go on sale until Tuesday; perhaps it's a fair assumption that Black Ops was the "inspiration" behind the robbery. But if that's the case, we'd just like to know what they intend to do with those 100+ copies...do they think they're going to find desperate buyers who simply can't wait until Tuesday?

Maybe. But if you're paying a large sum of money to play Black Ops - or really, any video game - a few days before it's available, you just don't have enough to do.

I agree, paying more money to play Black Ops a few days early is just lame.

Why would they have to sell them for MORE than $60 when the robbers got them for free? At 60 bucks a pop, that's a 6 grand profit.

But i guarantee there are people willing to do it, by any means.

Have you seen some of the people ontop of the CoD leaderboard, they really don't have a life.

He said "Hardware" was stolen too meaning some PS3's were stolen. It was also reported that none of the xbox360's and 360 version of Cod were stolen. At least the robers were smart.

Sounds like these low-life Scumbags need some good old fashion vigilante justice from those midnight gamers that would've been standing in line for their now-gone preorders.

And ee could call this rage party....

They stole the games before release date, doesn't mean they'll be stupid enough to try to sell them black market before the game comes out. They can sell them for $20 bucks a piece if they wanted to and it's all profit ladies and gents. This is the cyber era so you'll probably see those copies land on ebay and go for near retail price.

All I can suggest is that if anyone cares, they'd keep a close lookout on Black Ops listed near robbery location (cities, state) at a steal price on ebay & report it.

They really need to amp up security and offer a better line of protection when it comes to these things. I mean real security, not those rent-a-cops with neon yellow shirts on.

People have done worse for less. In this case I think it paints another bad picture for the gaming industry which has been under fire from activist groups who'd like to squelch game's of this content altogether. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Wait'll Fox news gets ahold of this. Ay any rate, at least these fellows will have one helluva story about their own Black Op.

Tomorrow's headline: "After a robbery at the Harford County Gamestop, which included numerous consoles, a large pile of non-functioning 360s were discovered by the front door of the shop today. Police hold out no hope of the return of the Playstation 3 units stolen in the robbery."

You know... That's hilarious. All that effort for Black Ops. They'll manage to turn a hefty profit, but if they're caught, they'll just end up wondering if CoD was worth jail time... Or if they're smart, they won't wonder.

Something tells me that they didn't go after Black Ops specifically.

It may have just been an added bonus once they began the robbery.

if your going to steal something, why not make it worthwhile?
there would of been heaps of games in the store yet to be released.
assassins creed is already in stores, so is NFS hot pursuit, i saw them there today.
i doubt people would pay handsomely to get a game a day or 2 early, but get a game 2+ weeks early?

hell apparently some game stores have a few copies of GT5 already!
a user on the GT forums had a few pics of the case with disk inside with manual and PSN voucher.

No seriously. People WOULD pay any amount of money to get Black Ops early.

You guys underestimate how far the 'no-life geeks' of the world will go.

It was reported that GT5 has been or will soon be sent to stores in europe, and that it was the reason for the delay, to make sure they could flood the market at once.

whoever is willing to pay more than the RRP just to get a game a day or 2 early has serious problems!
either that, or more money than brains..... no, probably both.

sony are not that stupid, they have lost heaps of sales due to the delay its not because of that.
its because they had to update the SDK thats why they missed there gold date by 3 days and thats why there manufacturing the game now, when it should of been out 5 days ago!

Who is to say that they'd sell them for more? 100 copies would have to be gotten rid of quickly so I'd say the sellers are at the mercy of the buyers. I personally think that the sellers would lower the price to get rid of the copies, unless they get some type if sick high from bathing in 100 copies of the same game.

I don't think these people who robbed the store would sell the copies early... If they are smart that is, which is obvious they are not, for two reasons.

If they start selling the copies early suspicion can and will rise... Note to any and all consumers... If your buying a copy of any game from a private party 2 days before release, it's probably stolen! Don't be as dumb as te robbers and buy it, especially at an inflated price.

Second thing is, if the robbers know anything bout gaming, they would know that marking up a game that most people play for the mp, would be dumb. The servers would not be up yet And even if they are you'll be playing with the people involved in stealing and buying the stolen games. Could make for good conversation tho! so to play online a couple days early probably wouldn't happen. Again consumers, this is why you shouldn't buy black ops for an inflated price Cus chances are you won't be playing online til midnight tonite anyways...

Chances are though that treyarch an black ops should boast a full, good campaign, so maybe it was worth it?

If the robbers stole 100 blackops games and PS3's they should of stole more PS3 title's while they were at it. Then again maybe if they took the extra time to get whatever different games, the black ops mission would be over.

They had Kobe Bryant in that commercial. They are advertizing like crazy for that game. If the robbers sell it for $50 a piece that's an easy five grand. I wonder if there is some way to track the game so when they finally log on it will let the cops know it was stolen?

Or freaking geniuses.

while armed robbery is seldom a smart thing to do, snagging 100 copies of the hottest game of the week (if not the month, at least) was very smart. those discs are worth $100 to the elite COD players who rule the leaderboards. surely there are 100 ebayers willing to pay exorbitant amounts for a head start at it.

while the method is questionable (a bit brash, maybe), and, among other things, /illegal/, they were undoubtedly the most valuable things in that store. thered be a news article on how stupid they were if they had left them.

I doubt it was stolen by COD nerds, if it was they'd have taken just enough for themselves, stealing a few cases suggests professional criminals who saw an opportunity. Though if you ask fox news it'll be because the game teaches you how to do it.
