Sony Confirms GT5 Launch Date: November 24

'heaves deep sigh of relief' We're all done now. No more rumors. No more speculation. No more, "oh no, what if we have to wait until 2011?"

Via official press release and an announcement over at the PlayStation Blog, Sony has revealed the finalized release date for Gran Turismo 5. Over the past few days, we had compiled evidence that pointed towards an end-November launch and that has proven true: one of the most anticipated titles of the generation will be available in North America on November 24. It's one of those uber-ambitious projects that should be downright epic for hardcore racing aficionados everywhere. Said Polyphony Digital president, Kazunori Yamauchi:

"Gran Turismo 5 is an ambitious project, with challenges and complexities which have made it our version of the Apollo Space Program!" When we created the original Gran Turismo back in 1997, we wanted to set a completely new precedent for the racing genre. With the technological leap onto PlayStation 3, our objective with Gran Turismo 5 was to create another great revolution which would not only satisfy our own high expectations, but would meet or even exceed the anticipation of the fans. Satisfying the loyal Gran Turismo followers is at the heart of all of our efforts, which is why it was such a difficult decision to delay the release of the game, and one which we did not take lightly. I can only apologize to everyone for making you wait so long, and I hope that when you try out the wealth of driving experiences available in Gran Turismo 5, you will not be disappointed."

Anybody else get chills reading that? GT5 features several of the world's most famous racetracks, brilliant high-definition visuals, an impressive lineup of over 1,000 cars and of course, what should be the most realistic physics to date. The link to the Blog above reminds you about the pre-order incentives - as if you don't already have it pre-ordered - and says they'll have "much more on Gran Turismo between now and launch."

it's going to be one very quiet year after that game hits the shelves. I think the anticipation has been built up for so long, most people will lock themselves in their rooms and be soaking up the most realistic and greatest driving simulator ever! GT5, here we come!

I jest. For people who had to choose between GT5 and Black Ops, and chose Black Ops, I suppose that is a little disappointing. Of course, if they prefer shooters over racers, maybe that's just there preference and its not really a big deal. I for one will have both, because variety is the spice of life.

I know what I'll be playing in a week and a half. I need a GT5 license plate in game that says "I brake for Bird", because Thanksgiving is the only thing that will pull my attention from this game. I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition and can't wait to get my hands on it.

I am glad fans are going to get their candy, but I am going to wait until I have read reviews and seen video reviews of the game. I really want to know if the damage engine and physics are where they should be...

GT5 has got so much to live up to now, it will be interesting to see if it actually does. We all know it should, but it's a wait and see for me until I part with my cash...

you do realize there are other countries on planet earth right?

its not a stupid question at all, PD have spent over 6 f*cking years on this, so suffice to say expectations are impossibly high!
if its anything like prologue theres going to be allot of flaming touches and pitchforks to answer too.
that was a freaking mess!
clutch did not work, rev lights did not work, paddle shifts did not work, only way to change gears manually was to use the gearbox and that sometimes would not work either.

i agree. they left out el capitaen, apricot hill, R11, infineon, mifield raceway, citta di aria, seattle, new york, seoul, twin ring motegi, costa di amalfi, opera paris, red rock valley, tahiti, test track, red rock valley and pikes peak. they also went through the trouble of including the top geat test track yet they didn't include any of the 3 cars used in the "star in a reasonably priced car" and left out 9 of the 10 fastest power lap cars.

There are 97 tracks, those are the same tracks but in different layouts but I doubt there is only 27 different tracks.
Hey, don't worry about not having that specific car and not all the tracks you wanted, I'm sure we'll get plenty of DLC. I'm sure if Kaz got what he wanted we will have all the tracks from all the past GTs and have a bunch more 2010-11 models. It does take a while to make a car, so they didn't have enough time to make the 2010 and diffidently the 2011 models. We'll get them with DLC.
I;m hoping for some more classics/muscle cars and the 2011 Mustangs(5.0, GT500, BOSS 302)

I checked my Amazon account and they still said it would ship on Dec. 31st, but then I search it and it says Nov 24th. I oreordered back on the July 24th. So I'm expecting it on day one.

Red Rock Valley and Pikes Peak haven't been in GT since 2, and those car makes besides Koenigsegg have never been in GT as far as I can recall, Saab may have been, but I don't remember it ever being present. Koenigsegg has to be in GT5 because it is in GT PSP and the garage transfer function would be pointless if you couldn't transfer all cars in your garage.

If this game has one thing (just one thing) wrong with it, (already bad damage, no sense of speed, poor collision physics and sound, no real speed/tachometers on the display, no tear interior on average cars and bad engine sound) I will be on Poly--PHONY as fast as whale shut in an ice flow! You hear me Takami Nageratu or whatever designer name is being used. (yes, I know his name) I could make an AMAZING game in my basement, if it took me 10 years. This better crap on Forza 3! It isn't perfect..would take 30 years and PS9 by that time to make it perfect the damn PS3 is a bi*** to program for and Nov. 24th better be your independence day. Release a 87% perfect game already. Then after a week, I will realize it's a video game with idiots online and I'll put it away to bring out now and then. NEXT!!
