Tweet Your Support: Get Namco To Bring Us Tales

It's not so much that JRPGs don't exist anymore, it's that they don't seem to exist over here. Publishers like Namco Bandai think we can't tear ourselves away from Call of Duty long enough to care about anything else.

But we know role-playing fans still exist, and we think enough people would buy a game like Tales of Vesperia to make it worth Namco's while to bring it stateside. That clearly isn't going to happen - although it almost seemed inevitable at one point - and we never got the upgraded Tales of Graces, either. So, for our strong RPG following at PSXE, we turn you to RPG Land: it may or may not work but at least it's something. At least it's proactive. Namco just refuses to bring any Tales titles to the US and if you want that to change, hop on Twitter and post the following:

"@NamcoGames + @namcobandai I would buy Tales games for PS3."

Yeah, there's no knowing how many people would need to do this to warrant Namco's attention. But you never know what might happen... And the ideal result would be that Namco responds and when they make a bit of money with their new US endeavor, other Japanese publishers might do the same. In many ways, we should really thank NIS for bringing us so many JRPGs in the past few years because the sub-genre is running really low, and is almost dead on consoles.

Anyway, off to post ourselves. ...are we really the only ones who wouldn't mind playing some Black Ops and a Tales game in the same day? Sadly, we just might be...

We're not getting Vesperia, not getting Graces.......WOW!! Amazing, and their profit is dropping like Snoop Dogg would say "DROP IT LIKE IT'S HOT".

And apparently there's this new Tales game which is exclusive to PS3, I'm not concern if it will stay exclusive but will it make it's way out of Japan?

Capcom - Complaining bad sales when it's actually the quality of their games are the problem

Namco - Keeps on supporting the wrong console and then don't mind keeping some games exclusive to Japan while posting loss.

SE - They got too many fans so now they're trying to get rid of them all.

Alrighty then, a message to them, 君たちは愚かです!!!!!!

I couldn't have said it better.

What you just pointed out is exactly why the Japanese game industry is "dieing."

Capcom's latest financial figures: losses
Namco: losses

As a matter of fact, it is supposed to be good! At least reviews are good(mostly 8s and 9s) and gamers love them...

Wait, what? Tales of Graces F isn't even out in Japan yet, so it's a little early to be giving up on it. Of course since we didn't get the original Wii version either it seems unlikely.

I played through Vesperia PS3 in Japanese and really enjoyed it (it was a great way to practice my Japanese, too). I'm thinking I might import Graces F as well. Got to love region-free systems like the PS3.

That might truly be the only way to really play these jrpgs noow.

For sure they'll always release them on ps3 in Japan.

So what we need to do is import them, as sad as that might sound lol...

Man that's truly sad, would've never said something like that in the ps1 era

Sadly, not all of us can read or speak Japanese, and you kinda need to do both to play an RPG in Japanese. It'd not exactly trivial to learn Japanese, so for the vast majority, that's just not going to happen. Which is why I've long said that these Japanese game companies ought to at least translate every piece of text in a game into English as a no-frills localization. That way we could at least enjoy the game in the West - albeit with the original Japanese voices. Of course, some of us might prefer the original Japanese voices anyway...

Ill never understand why they bring these JRPG's to a console who's fan base doesn't give a crap about JRPG's. These Japanese devs are retarded.

"drrrrrr! Lets make our JRPG's Exclusive to the Xbox"

"but sir, they only like Call of Duty"

"Call of what now?"

The series can go die in a ditch for all I care. I was more than willing to support the series, but Bamco decided to give me the finger instead. They keep all the games in Japan because they don't think the series wouldn't be as popular internationally, but had they focused their series on one console instead of the constant shifts and ports, they would've had that higher international fanbase (look at Final Fantasy). Bamco made its bed, now it has to lie in it.

I twitted! Anyway, even though I love quality JRPGs, I don't care that much as long as I get Persona and Kingdom Hears(please have all KHs for PS, don't give a damn about exclusivity if quality is unrelated). And of course, some Demon's Souls like fix!

I hate twitter, but you know, anything for a good cause.

Tweeted.

Of course while I was att it I added a similar message for Xenosaga and one for Soul Coliabur 5 for good measure. If the dolts at namco games can pay attention to one message they can pay attention to them all. If not, it makes no difference anyway, so nothing to lose...Tweet away!

Since they already have the game working on PS3 in Japan and the majority of the voice work was already done for Vesperia (on 360), it can't cost more than $1M to localize and publish. Considering that they will net a minimum of $20 per copy sold, that's only 50,000 copies to make a profit in the western market. There's simply no way that they can fail to make some profit on a localized tales game. It makes zero sense to keep them in Japan only.

The same is true of the Idolmaster games. Once again, not releasing these games on PS3 is simply leaving money on the table. Namco really must not want to make money at all.

That reminds me, while you're tweeting about Tales games, add one about Xenosaga, Soul Calibur and IdolMaster. If 360 can get Idolmaster and Tales games, why not the PS3? If anything it's logical that Playstation buyers would want these games *more* than 360 gamers. Namco needs to know these things.

Well, we only can hope Catherine and Ni No Kuni get localized. I'd also like White Album, looks very... different.

I liked Tales of Symphonia on Gamecube. That was the last Tales game I've played.
It was weird there was a Kratos in that game though, and he didn't eviscerate anyone...

I'm sick of this anti-RPG industry we have now. There is (or should be) room for all genres, even if they will never hit Call of Duty numbers. RPG is and will continue to be my favorite genre, FF7 being my favorite game of all time. Why did it have to change?

I was talking to a good friend at work the other day, and I showed him an article for The Last Guardian, and I expressed to him how I excited I am for that game. He took a look at the article, looked at me with a confused look on his face, and asked, "Why?" Now keep in mind this is a gamer that only plays CoD games and Madden. My response to him was "You just don't get it, man."
The sad reality is, this is the predominant gamer type today. We are a dying breed, my friends. And that saddens me.

Gamers that think of anything other than how quickly they can wipe out the enemy and take their flag are indeed a dying breed. In which case, any and all of us that are not already married must find a significant other and breed more!

One way or the other, that just can't be a bad thing.

It blows my mind that this game has already been ported to the PS3 and for some insane reason Namco doesn't see fit to release it here. A friend of mine who has played teh game on 360 loves it. Proclaiming it as one of the best jRPG's he's played.

Here we've got PSXE, a site full of jrpg lovers, with an article to help bring the series to North America, and all of three people have claimed to have tweeted.

If the Tales games were actually good RPGs, wouldn't we see a lot more positive responses here?

That's a good point. Then again, RPG or not, you'd think that more PS3 gamers would be keen to see more games from Namco on the PS3 whether they are RPGs or not.
