Ubisoft Delays Ghost Recon, Driver

Just because you enjoy good sales doesn't necessarily mean you'll turn a profit.

Just ask Ubisoft. According to their first-half results, the publisher saw revenues rise an impressive 57% to €260 million ($354 million) but on the downside, they reported an overall net loss of €89.8 million ($122 million). This is down 34.5% in a year-over-year comparison and the company attributes this fall to a couple things: firstly, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 and R.U.S.E. "performed below expectations." The same goes for Shaun White Skateboarding; CEO Yves Guillemot said the game is "off to a slow start." The second reason behind the loss was "substantial reorganization," which involved the cancellation of several unknown projects. This cost the company €45.3 million ($61.6 million). There's no knowing if the "reorganization" included layoffs and unfortunately, the bad news didn't end there.

Ubisoft has been forced to delay both Tom Clany's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Driver: San Francisco, which were supposed to arrive during the first quarter next year. Now, the publisher expects to launch the titles during their next fiscal year (April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012). And yet, Ubisoft still says it'll hit their predicted guidance for the full year, perhaps because they do have one gigantic hit in the offing this week- Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Pre-orders are up 25% over Assassin's Creed II, which ended up shipping over 9 million units. To cap it all off, Guillemot says focus group scores for the hotly anticipated title "are the highest ever for a Ubisoft game."

Always nice to end on a positive note.

Maybe if shawn white skateboarding wasn't so awful it would have sold more. I really didn't like the hawks 2 demo either, thats why they lost out on my money.

Wow a new Driver! I remember playind Driver 1 on the Ps1. Around the year 2000. The thing I loved most was that the directional signals actually turned on based on if you were going left or right! Driver 2 in the PS2... I remember it took me for ever to figure out you can get out your car! You had to press up & triangle. Driving around was fun to do. Jumping them bridges in Driver 2 as they were lifting up ( so the ship could pass but there was no ship :) ). I never really played Driver 3. Now Driver: San Francisco! I might have to get this.

I never knew Ubisoft was the company behind Driver...

As for AC:B I think it will sell well. Giving them some money loss back 8xD

So if Ubisoft had concentrated on getting GR & Driver released, instead fussing around on Hawk, Ruse, & Shawn of the undead(pun intended), and now suddenly swooning over how they can deep-throat M$'s Kinect more often....

.....then, maybe, just maybe, their frigging bottom line wouldn't have looked so bloody Valentine's Day red.

That sucks I was interested in Ghost recon and driver. Man I still remember getting the first driver for my birthday. That game taught me how to read maps lol.

Solution: Beyond Good and Evil 2 with a hype campaign.

Anyone see that bizarre Brotherhood commercial where people just kind of die for no reason, then you see a video game character out in real life? I loled.

Yeah World I saw it, & thought the dog played his part pretty damned well in it too, LOL.

Anyway, I sure hope that "Beyond Good & Evil-2 better" isn't one of those other un-named projects canned or delayed too.

The tv ads for brotherhood is going on high rotation on all major channels here in Norway now, and it's looking damn good too.

However I gotta say that I hope they do a *major* leap in expanding on the ass.creed concept before releasing ac3. Walking around killing guards in sneaky ways is only fun for so long.
Now don't get me wrong, the first two are amongst my ps3-favs so far and I really wish the best of future for that IP. They are just not quite "there" yet.

That sucks!!! I was just excited to get the new ghost recon early next year (thoroughly enjoyed graw2's online) but now i'll have to wait till 2012ish at the supposed latest? Guess the only other decent 3rd person shooter is the new Socom (am planning on buying both games...eventually)

Well, both of these games were going to be mine on launch day. More time for Gran Turismo 5.
Driver is one of my favorite games coming up, not long ago I found my Driver game back when I had a PS1. Popped it in my PS3 and enjoyed it for a while.
I like shooters, Just tired of COD. Excited about Kill Zone 3 and Ghost recon.

But for now...
GT5 countdown: 8 days!!!

oh come on man, driver is the only open world game ive been looking forward to ever since its announcement!
oh well, i guess that sub par true crime will have to do, assuming it does not get delayed again.

vegas was, and still is one of my favorite shooters this gen!

While it "sucks", having seen first hand what rushing a game and not doing things right can do, like in the case of Raibow6 Vegas 2(still love/play it it but it has issues), this is a very good thing for GR and Driver players.

Unexpected. I'd have thought enough people had been burned with AC2 that they would wait for the GotY or Ultimate edition. I know I'm waiting.

I hope the delay for Future Soldier is to make needed improvements. It just doesn't seem very gripping at the moment. Or maybe they're just scared of CoD?

Unlike most games, CoD is a top ten seller for MONTHS after its release. Pushing the GR date helps put a little distance between the two.
