GT Academy Hits US, A Chance To Live Out A Dream
With Gran Turismo 5 right around the corner, it's time to put your skills to the test.
Today, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) and Polyphony Digital Inc., in collaboration with Nissan North America, have announced what they're calling "the opportunity of a lifetime for gaming and racing enthusiasts." It's the debut of the GT Academy in the US: the competition will begin on December 20 and contestants will compete in GT5 for a chance of becoming a true-blue race driver with a professional team at his side. If you think you have what it takes, please note that registration begins on December 6, and you should visit the game's official site for all the details and relevant information.
In GT Academy, racers will compete against one another in online time trials in pre-selected Nissan vehicles. Everyone who participates will earn free digital content, along with a chance to win prizes for coming out on top in regional time trials. The top 32 racers in the country will be invited to compete in the live national finals event in March 2011, and that group will then be whittled down to 16 finalists. Those 16 expert drivers will face each other in a series of challenges and the winner gets a dream-come-true prize- an opportunity to train with elite race car drivers at international tracks and race as part of a professional team.
Said Scott A Steinberg, vice president of product marketing:
"With the upcoming launch of Gran Turismo 5, it's a very exciting time to team with Nissan to announce GT Academy. With the realistic racing experience that only Gran Turismo 5 provides, GT Academy will identify someone who truly has the skills to become a pro race car driver, providing the chance of a lifetime to win the ultimate prize."
To top it all off, the competition will be documented in a multi-episode reality show airing exclusively on the SPEED channel and the PlayStation network in 2011. They'll start filming in March 2011 from the GT Academy finals, through the winner's training as a pro race driver. As you might guess, the likes of the Nissan 370Z and Nissan GT-R will be prominently featured. So, who's up for the challenge?
