Demon's Souls Greatest Hits Edition Arrives With Goodies

Okay, maybe you just haven't gotten around to picking up one of the finest and most ambitious PlayStation 3 titles to date. That's understandable.

But it's still a shame, and it's a problem you can remedy this week. According to one source citing a recent Amazon listing, the Greatest Hits version of From Software's awesome RPG is currently available for the standard GH price of $29.99. It comes complete with a beautiful art book and original soundtrack; these were only previously available to those who originally pre-ordered the game last year. Also, let it be noted that the Canadian branch of the online retailer also says the Greatest Hits edition is available now, so our friends up north don't have to miss out. Although we weren't quite as enamored with Demon's Souls as other sources (GameSpot awarded it Game of the Year over the huge favorite, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves), we still highly recommend it. The learning curve is steep and it's a definite challenge, but that's what the hardcore RPGers want, yes?

And considering the sheer length and depth of the game, that $30 price tag is about as appealing as it can get in this industry.

Yep. It's just so sad that they might take down the server next year. :(

Woo hoo, some day I'll play it through. Remember, next year Atlus is gonna kill server support; worse yet, after that point, word has it that they' may come to your home and confiscate your game =p

Fortunately, I had the foresight to not give it a first chance.

I think Uncharted 2 is the only game I'd recommend being nominated and selected winner of two consecutive game of the year awards. Doesn't the special version that released this year technically count as a new game? ;)

I don't mind a hard game, but sadistically hard? I'm going to have to pass no matter the price.

It's not nearly as difficult as most have made it out to be. Remember the gameplay clip of the 1 hour speed run? As Ben said, it has a steep learning curve. Once you've leveled up and gained all your basic abilities, it's smooth sailing from there. I'm currently playing Valkyria Chronicles, and having personally completed DS, I'd say it is comparable in challenge to that game (though very different in terms of genre of course).

He just isn't , only real hardcore gamers would never be scared to accept the challenge of Demon's Souls.

Game isn't broken or unplayable, just HARD-core.

I liked Demon's Souls. Played it via rental, and enjoyed it. Beat 5 different bosses before having to return it. I might just pick this up!

And for the patient and those who pick things up quickly, it isn't that overly difficult. I agree it's challenging, but I liked it for that very reason.

Pretty good deal I would say! I am also tempted, but if the servers are taken off line next year... then what!

Qubex,
Play it single player. It's a perfectly viable option.

Multiplayer just adds to the experience. It certainly isn't necessary. It's great solo, (and if you try a tougher level at a low level, you'll probably benefit!)

Damn you for reminding me about Demon's Souls... I really did plan to beat it this year, but with GT5 just around the corner, I don't see it happening anymore.

I have played the first world, and it was awesome. I will get back to it. But this Greatest Hits version is a lot like the Black Phantom edition, sans strategy guide... Why not include the guide... you need it for this game damnit.
Peace.

Buying Demon's Souls was a mistake for me, that game is simply sadistic.

The game is sadistic? Thats not true, you just gotta read everything and find out how things work(items, spells, miracles, what weapons to use, and what effect ores have). The game is pretty flexable, iv'e beaten it maybe 13 times with 9 defferent characters.

You were replying to me?
If so I'll reply back to you.

The battle mechanic is easy to learn but hard to master like reviewers said, I find it unsuitable for this kind of mechanic to have you take on multiple enemies at once, to not mention when there's one or two behind you or some long ranged dude shooting you while you're occupied.
Everyone's taste and opinion differ, and if there's many gamers loving Demon's Souls, unfortunately I'm not one of them.
Demon's Souls just isn't for me.

Or you can say that I suck which I admit if I can't even play through a level when dozens of gamers already finished it many times already.

I was refering to anyone calling it sadistic(Alienage)and so on, as time passes.
And for that senario you stated(Snaaake), using thief's ring along with the spell called cloak are the stealth components provided in the game. The archers won't see you and you can take one or two enemies at a time.
You have to explore and find the soultion to the problem, it's an RPG after all.
