"Plenty Of Room" For More Deus Ex Installments
Deus Ex, despite a relatively long hiatus recently, has been revered by gamers and critics for quite some time.
And the good news is that developer Eidos Montreal says there's "plenty of room" for more installments after next year's Deus Ex: Human Revolution drops. In speaking to Edge magazine and as noted by VideoGamer, game director Jean-Francois Dugas said that while it's natural to think about a remake, the new game takes place in 2027, which is about 25 years before the first game. Therefore, they could theoretically build a whole new series of prequels that lead up to the first Deus Ex title (which first released back in June of 2000). Art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletete elaborated:
"If you look at the history depicted in the franchise, you realise there are many great moments that have yet to be exploited. Reading Deus Ex's in-game writing, you find a huge amount of background. When you get into the 2030s, you could make many games exploiting all the events happening in that period. You have the secession of states, a huge earthquake, a massive financial crash, Mexico regaining control over the southern states of the US. There's so much material to exploit."
He clarified that they may not use such elements; they're just examples of what they could do, and that they'd have "no problem building a new series inside the franchise without touching those two existing games." For those of you excited about Human Revolution, they've released a new gameplay trailer that might intrigue you. The game is set to arrive on February 28, 2011. Yes, right around Killzone 3...

I recently picked up the first Deus Ex for my laptop and its a pretty solid game and of course Mr. Dutka suggested it. Human Revolution is shaping up quite nicely and the new gameplay trailer is phenomenal.
I know this will be an experience like none other. As for KZ3 and Crysis 2, there is no way I am missing either. KZ3 I hear very good things from just the beta, and Crysis 2 is looking very good as well.

If you guys(and gals) liked the first Deus Ex, then, then like Wreckless said, pick up DE:Invisible Wars(original Xbox).
Plus, you can also find another game that was actually supposed to be the 3rd Deus Ex in the series, but mid-way through making the game, they decided to make this one a stand-alone game. It's called "Project Snowblind"(original Xbox).
It's been labeled by most D.E. fans as the spiritual successor to the DE series.
And just as the 2 DE's before it, it also has all the same elements that the 1st 2 DE's had, including, FPS, RPG, stealth, human bio-augmentation, and hacking, etc.
The only major difference in this 3rd game was that this one also included a on-line multi-player for the first time in the series.

With that optimism out the way, i still fear for it, Deus Ex was never about the action.

I think as you eluded to, that they are showing off the gratuitous action because that is what people know this generation, but if you really watch you can get a feeling that underneath it you can play how you want to just like the previous instalments.

Some have argued that without Specter, this will fail, but i gotta remind them that Specter did Invisible War, a far cry from the original. We most likely won't get the original feel ever again, but that doesn't mean we can't get a good effort.

As for the idea of more sequels: when a game is this different, I have no qualms about it. Just like the additional features of Bioshock that were implemented above the FPS controls, it made me happy to purchase the second one, and hype me up for Infinite. Given that this seems to have a story that is just as deep, and gameplay that is just as diverse, I say as long as they can make each feel different enough, just keep pumping them out. Only don't do it yearly and don't overdo it. Know when to stop.
Peace.

ah, this just another excuse for SE to bleed the franchise.

I have all 3 DE games, & none of them are bad, although "Invisible Wars" wasn't as great as "The Conspiracy".
But it, and Project Snowblind were still a good DE games & kept the essence of the game alive after Specter.
So, D.E. can gladly continue to take a pint of my blood for it's bio-augmentation purposes every 3 years or so.

I'd rather Specter would have been involved with all(and every) of the DE's too, but we all know that that didn't/isn't/and wont happen.
Anyway, my point was(and still is) that the series so far was still decent, and I expect that even though they're going to 3rd person mode, it should still be a good D.E.game, rather than not.
