Sony: GT5 Still Important, Will "Take Your Breath Away"
Honestly, there just isn't much else to talk about today. Gran Turismo 5 has arrived and the world is lovin' it. Thus, the headlines must follow.
UK Boss Ray Maguire was talking to Eurogamer about the status of the revered franchise during a very different generation. Sure, things have changed but as he sees it, everyone is just going to be amazed by GT5, and that's what matters. Said Maguire:
"I didn't know until I saw it. Like you I was thinking, well, the world has moved on a little bit, social gaming has emerged, people are accepting smaller, bite-sized bits of gaming at very low value. Then I saw it, I saw the detail of it, and it does take your breath away. You go, 'Oh my God, now I understand it.'"
GT5 is the first full console release since GT4, which launched for the PS2 back in 2004. And in the past 6 years, Maguire admits that the "gaming landscape has changed" and that just because the casual gamer rules, that doesn't mean the hardcore have completely disappeared. "I want it all," Maguire added. "I don't just want Angry Birds and Doodle Jump." He believes there's room for both in today's gaming world and consumers will find a way to "fit it all together in a wider universe." As for whether or not GT5 will be a system selling piece of software, Maguire notes that the series has always been important for the PlayStation brand:
"Clearly one of the games which was very important for PS2 was Gran Turismo. It took the machine to the limits, and it continued to do that all the way through to the last iteration.
What's interesting is that there's been nothing until now on GT. That's because the hardware that we have now allows for so much more freedom. The passion and the drive for excellence that Kazunori has is taking him all the way through to try and push the technology we have now."
It's getting difficult to read all this without actually playing, isn't it? Maybe you should remedy that issue soon...hey, it's Thanksgiving week; you don't have to work that much right? ...nah, just me. ;)
