I'm reading so much about it but then....I'm also reading about people being really mad about the standard cars not having a cockpit view other than the premium cars....Honestly I use the other views more than the cockpit view so why are they mad? The wait for this game on the other hand is the longest wait yet....CAN'T SLEEP even though i should be *sigh*

Every car has a cockpit view, it's just that the premium cars have a lot more detail in their exterior and interior models. Basically, they look better, and the standard car interiors look more generic.

I was under the same impression as Higlander. I don't remember them saying they took out cockpit views only that the Premium Cars would have Premium Detail.

To anyone who cares,every car does have a cockpit view.The premium cars have it to where you can look around the entire interior front and back and see the meticulous detail put into them.The standard cars do not,but they do have a cockpit view while your driving.Just look at the video on Gametrailers.com,there is a mustang driving in the rain with a cockpit view and that is not a premium car of course.Sorry to rant but Gt.com calls it a GT5 video blowout but only has like 4 videos for GT5 up.I think they suck balls for that,cause they put like 10 or more for Cod Bo.

ARGH! I *hate* this line of thinking that Ray Maguire was talking about;

Ugh! The world has moved on? I call BS on that. The world hasn't moved on, commerce has. Commerce figured out that it's easier to extract more from consumers if you do it gradually in small bits instead of in one big bite. People don't help though, they want cheap and don't give a rat's ass about quality. It's cheap enough that they treat it as disposable and buy another. When a casual game costs less than a coffee at McDonalds, people will buy it without even thinking about it. It doesn't matter if the game is a steaming pile of smelly stuffy, it only cost less than a coffee, throw it away and get another, it's bound to be better.

UGH! I had this dripping roast, gradual extraction of funds from gamers. It's like those insidious Facebook games. Never mind that Facebook is less secure than leaving your front door open at night. Never mind the friend tyranny where people get ticked if you don't friend them, or put their annoying butt on ignore. No. It's 'games' like Farmville, CafeWorld, MafiaWars, Realm of Empires or whatever other piece of crap 'free' game it is. Every one of these sorry excuses for 'mouse click madness' is built to allow basic play for free, but for trivial amounts of money you can add extras, you can buy virtual costumes or additional buildings, resources whatever. You can buy extra game tools to help manage your addition more efficiently - which just drags you in further. People spend obscene amounts of money on the virtual crap in these games. they make Home and the virtual items there look like great value by comparison.

Oh, but this is apparently the *future* of gaming? NO! No, I will not accept it. I refuse to accept it. It's bad enough that the world and his dog all want to shoot each other in a game (and half of them will do it in reality given half a chance). As bad as I feel about the over dominance of shooters, this insane drive to small, cheap games or 'gamelets' with additional features and add-ins that you by for a quarter or $0.50 or $0.99 are just about the closest thing we have to evil in the gaming world. I hate them, I hate what they do to gamers and gaming. I hate how game publishers are pandering to this supposed evolution of gaming. It's not a step forward, it's a step backwards into the mire of shovel ware.

Oh, but we do everything like this now. Airline tickets used to be inclusive, but people felt they were too expensive, so the airlines broke the ticket out. Now you pay for your seat, and separately pay for your various federally mandated fees, your online booking fee, or telephone booking fee, you advanced boarding pass, your luggage, food on the aircraft, restrooms on the aircraft (Ryan air in the UK for one does this). There are almost innumerable upcharges for everything now. By the time you figure out how much you spent on the flight, you have probably paid more than you would when the tickets were priced all inclusive. But, because everything is charged in separate transactions, people don't notice.

This happens in so many areas now. Under the guise of making things less expensive, the total spend by the consumer for the same amount of product or service increases, but the consumer thinks they are getting a better deal. they aren't, they are getting a raw deal, and this "smaller, bite-sized bits of gaming at very low value" is just the latest example of it.

This is consumerism at its [insert your opinion here]. Back then we rarely see this many people game. But now, we see all sorts of gamers, from the Farmville people to the hardcore FFVII players. I think the main culprit are these words: "casual gamer". Some of yesteryear's best were done away because of this direction. FF13 was a victim. CoD is the best example on catering to such gamers. Quite honestly, I only became a bit hardcore recently during my teen years. I played those greats: FFVII, FFVIII, Legend of Dragoon, Gran Turismo, Need For Speed, Quake etc but I appreciated it back then more for the fun not the experience (which I would confess that I used Gameshark for a majority of games back then :( But yeah, now, when i get a chance to play some of these again, I do them the normal way--good ol' fashioned perseverance. Ironically though, I don't have as much time now as I did back then. Life's funny :)

Peoples attention spans have gotten shorter, simple as that. People these days want to sit and press buttons mindlessly and not have to deal with great storylines, but that's not even the worst of it. All these 'casual gamers' don't even recognise quality. It's sad to see gamers going out in droves and buying endless Call of Duty games and movies games and refusing to give games like Heavy Rain the sales numbers that they deserve. I'm counting on Gran Turismo 5 to upset this trend.

The people who participate in these games are not entirely to blame. This personality type has existed all these years. It is only now that they have access to the internet and the ability to play these games and spends untold amounts of time and money. It is the companies that have conspired and through surveys, focus groups and what not have found that they too have access to this audience. An audience that simply does not care that they are being robbed blind and tricked into these addicting habits.
I wonder if usage would be the same if these companies actually displayed the amount of money that the user has spent over the lifetime of playing said game. I am seriously going to look into that because I know of at least two people who constantly send me requests and invitations and notices that they have done this or that in these games. It got to the point that I had to delete them completely. Madness.

By the way.. All my accounts are set completely to private. Although I am still weary of these so called social services.

No reason for an apology at all. I was just saying that the usual misconception about short attention span is that everyone is somehow becoming ADD. What's funny is that it's partially true, and partially the complete opposite. For a person with ADD (and there is a wide spectrum of severity of symptoms), when you're engaged in a task you're not all that interested in it's hard to maintain focus. The flip side is something called hyperfocus. When you are interested in the thing you're doing it's easier to maintain focus (naturally). But, if it's something you really like, one of your favorite things so to speak, you actually go way beyond that into hyperfocus. This is a state of highly focused attention, so focused that you are quite oblivious the other things around you. It requires a strong stimulus to break you out of it, such as a sudden very loud noise, or someone literally giving you a shake.

Seriously, no problem at all, no offense at all, really.

I do agree with the shorter attention span thing, but I think it's because the pace of life has accelerated, we're all expected to multi-task, and everything is consumed in the equivalent of sound bytes. If you look at TV shows and movies over the last 50 years and analyze the length of scenes and the frequency of cutting to another shot, the scene length has gone down and the frequency of cut has shot up. So whether it's a reflection of society or a driver behind it, the short attention space thing is definitely a factor.

Beautifully written Highlander. I absolutely agree with the points you've made, although I would go so far as to add modern MMO's into the problem that you bring up. So many of them offer mini-transactions in order to raise revenue, and gamers actually consider this a better option. It's mind boggling.

Also, I blame a lot of it on society. Life is almost schizophrenic in its speed and need nowadays, and people don't seem to realise that it is essential to lean back every now and again, turn everything off and just think 'F**k it, I don't care about today. It's just another day, and I'm going to use it to be off.' Just completely switch off to the cares and worries of the world. I understand that some people are unable to do this because of commitments, but for most, it needs to be done.

Yeah, they were making fun of him on another site for trying to drive using cockpit view and saying "Why would anyone want to do this?" and going back to his behind-the-car view; the one that all the "racing gurus" use you know. It's pretty obvious that Gamespot doesn't have anyone on their staff who really likes racing sim's - they always get low scores, while something like Grid comes out and they exclaim that it "puts the fun back into racing!", because you can drift through all the corners at any speed.

there is still a lot of venom out there against Sony and the PS3. GT5 has been so long coming, and has built up very high expectations. No matter how good the game is, it will be rated down if it doesn't meet the inflated expectations that reviewers have. Look at the scores for NFS Hot Pursuit. It got high 9's and 10's from several leading sites. Unless Polyphony has laid an egg, GT5 has to be as good or better than NFS Hot Pursuit. But I can almost guarantee you it won't review as highly at some of those sites.

What I mean is they can change their firmware to v3.50 when they want to play the newest games and then they can change it back to 3.41 OR they can change it back to the lower firmwares to get OtherOS back if they so wish. It really pisses me off when things like this happen :/

ok ill go ahead and correct this info. they cannot use jailbreak on 3.42 or 3.50 firmwares. meaning they can update to play a game that they have purchased and then revert back for homebrewy goodness. they cannot run gt5 or any other game that was made using the 3.50 SDK on jailbreak unless they were to make a custom firmware like on the psp where you could update to a custom 3.41 which includes the files that are found in the 3.50 SDK. I have a jailbroken ps3. I use it to run homebrew applications, emulate games from older consoles such as gameboy, nes, sega and others (yes i own the cartridges), and last of all to run my games without needing to take the discs out of the cases. I own 26 ps3 games (including demos), soon to be over 30 thanks to black friday deals. those are what i play on my jailbroken console. if i wish to play online i simply use my newer slim model to do so instead of my fat.
here are all the games that i own the disc to:3d dot game heroes, assassin's creed, battlefield bad company 2, dark void, fight night round 4, god of war 3, heavenly sword, heavy rain, infamous, killzone 2, little big planet, madden 08, madden 11, metal gear solid 4, mlb the show 2010, motor storm, move game demo disc, playstation 3 demo disc (from my 80GB backwards compatible fatty), resident evil 5 gold edition, resistance, resistance 2, socom confrontation, Sports champions (purchased move bundle along with an extra move and navi controller.), Rockband 3 (with piano controller), The Fight Lights out, Bioshock (I own it, I just have to find it :P)

Before the week is up I plan on buying god of war collections, FFXIII, Uncharted, and possibly mirrors edge and gran tourismo 5

I support sony and the developers all the way, but i also love homebrew and freeware apps :P and i love not using my ps3 laser while playing games, as the load times are decreased and its not slowly killing my bluray drive as well :P no matter how you slice it, jailbreak is here to stay. those who like their games will buy them, those cheap sons of *****es out there will continue to pirate or simply not purchase.

If you are asking why the long post... its because im sick of people making jailbreakers out to be the devil... i buy my games and enjoy homebrew as well. enough said.

For a second there Maguire was coming across like a graphics whore. But then he mentioned passion and drive for excellence so he's obviously not completely crazy. Still, it's some pretty grandiose expressions for someone who just "saw" it.

Sayword does have the game and said every car he has used thus far has a cockpit view. Including the 97 Civic he started with. Seems silly to me to remove cockpit views entirely from certain cars.

Don't have time to read all of the comments, so I'll do so this arvy. I can't be happy with the abundance of casual gamers that snap up IPhone apps and think them comparable to a console game, or even a game on a dedicated portable device. It's a cheap fix, that simply doesn't scratch the itch.

And while the world has turned and the market has changed, there are still plenty of people that consider themselves hardcore. There are still the console and PC gamers that choose to only play the games available on the system, and I'd like to continue to rant, but time is up.

Well if you notice the sites in question. They are 360 fanboy havens. They need to cater to their core. That means attacking GT5 to make the twitchers happy. Lets face it,all they have is Forza(sp) and thats like comparing a kart racer to a jet fighter.

I don't agree with the whole "take your breath away" thing, but for those hardcore racers, I'm sure it will apply greatly to them and kudos to all who decide to accept the challenge of completing this game 100%. And although I'm passing on this game, I would like to get the GT wrist watch that Chopard has made. Now if only it was like $5,000 cheaper than it is now, then I would.

I think I am about to be hosed by Amazon. My account hasn't been charged for the game, and it still shows as shipping soon. I pre-ordered the CE months ago. It should have been one of the first to go out. I have a feeling I will be waiting until Monday. In which case I shall be ever so slightly ticked at them, and they will know it.

Actually what happened is Amazon sold out of Collector's Editions and started offering them from Target since they had some left. I ordered mine on July 3rd and it shipped from Amazon a few hours ago via Fed-Ex.

From what I understood, all basic cars have no interior viewpoints, only low beams, and moderate damage effects. The premium cars have interior viewpoints, high and low beams, and detailed damage effects. Only about 20-25% of the cars are premium I think I read at some point.

I can't recall the last game not named GT that had more than 200 cars. People should stop complaining about "only" 200+ of the cars having the cockpit view, and celebrate the fact that we are alive and capable of playing one of Greatest Games ever made. I mean 1000+ cars........1000 of the meanest and fastest cars to ever bang the pavement.........EPIC.

I just looked at the website and here's my take (not yet having the game). They make a big deal about the incredible detail of the premium car's dashboard and interior view, even showing shots of the driver in the car with rain on the windshield and different lighting effects, they talk about how the instrumentation is authentic to the car in all of the premium interiors.

What the do say about the standard cars is this;

*"Standard Cars" do not have an interior dash view.

It doesn't say there is no cockpit view, it says there is no interior dash view. If you look at the screen shots, the interior dash view is a view that let's you see the entire premium interior in all of it's HD modeled glory. That to me is they mean by interior dash view. The cockpit view (as in the view of the road from the driver's eye point of view) isn't even discussed. I think we're all worrying about nothing.

@Geobaldi,

The thing is a lot of people like to drive a car very similar to the one they have on a 'real' racetrack. something they'll very likely never do in reality. The inclusion of 'ordinary' cars like those is a good thing in my mind. Plus there is the challenge of tuning them and driving them against cars that should be faster to see if you can beat the faster car.

Maybe so Geobaldi, but have you seen a Cube, turbo charged, tuned, stripped of the extra fat, equipped with racing tires and raced against a 69 Chevy Camaro SS and actually win? Me neither, thats why GT5 is EPIC, because it allows you to tune a Cube or a Lambo and everything in between. In GT world the turtle (cube) can beat the rabbit (camaro). I'd say that's pretty Epic.

As previously stated, I got GT5 on Sunday.

The basis of the game is the same, and it is fantastic. However, some of the graphics are suprisingly questionable, and from what I have seen, the collision/damage physics are...well, you will see.

@gangan19 - I'm sure there are some exceptions, but for the most part, they do deliver on release day if you choose to do so. Depending on location and other factors of course. I haven't had a release day purchase show up late from Amazon yet. I have from a few other sites that I've ordered from though, when Amazon was sold out.

I've had a local dealer run out of the preorder copies and the pre-order pack-ins. When I asked where mine was they were all "Oh, sorry, we sold it..." When they did get the game in, I asked for the pre-order pack-in, and again it was a case of "Oh, sorry, we gave them all away on launch day." At which point I had a few choice words for them and have never pre-ordered through a bricks and mortar retailer again.

No problem. Amazon has only let me down one time and its likely because I chose their free shipping. This is my first time using Release Day Deliverly so I hope it's a good experience. I no longer preorder from retail stores either. Twice! They sold my copy of The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess after I already paid for it in full. Been preordering from Amazon ever since.

Damn...there has been little to no advertising for this game. The only time I saw the Kevin Butler commercial was probably 2 times on regular TV, but then again I don't watch that much TV so, but still...Microsoft advertises the sh*t out of their products and are then rewarded with heavy sales. Sony needs to stop riding their high horse and start advertising games. GT5 is suppose to be the biggest game for PS3, yet...it doesnt feel like it at all. Haven't preordered and actually am waiting to read some honest reviews...this site of course. I am not a big GT fan as I have never owned one (played, but never owned) so I need a little insight into how good this game actually is. Will be my first simulation and I am excited, but still. Hope it turns out perfect because I'm done playing New Vegas and ACB, so I need something to keep me going when I'm doing nothing. here's to hoping Sony starts advertising 'games' (not move)and this game actually delivers more than just great graphics.

Yes, Prolog did have that. But, the lack of a dash view, does not mean a lack of cockpit view, it simply means that the dash is not in view. There may be a linguistic sleight of hand going on here. I'm going to wait for the game to confirm it myself, but I suspect that the standard cars will have a cockpit view that essentially limits the view to what you'd see of the road from inside the car, only without the interior detail, such as the dash, and the instrumentation would continue to be the HUD instead of the dashboard instruments. That was you get a cockpit view without the extra rendering of the dash and instruments.

I guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow.

from the video i saw, cars have cock pit views. All of them. Premiums have cock pit views with detailed dashboards in sight. There was some video up recently of someone showing the differences between standard and premium and this was one that stuck out to me

This game is going to cause quite a bit of dust build up on my library (which will only be dealt with using a 3 foot swifter duster) for at least a month...

Taxi gamer has some awesome HD videos up for download (youtube will only run low quality because of bandwidth consumption) and my god do they look amazing!

I wonder how well this final version will battle aliasing. gt5p didn't do much justice against it. it's hard to tell from any video recorded of it.. Ben, have you gotten your hands on a copy? Any input? oh yeah, it's going to be MINE tomorrow! Woo hoo!

I'm stuck working.. Then I'll have to set aside my gt5 on turkey day because we're hosting the family get together. The upside is all the time I'll have to play after I'm stuffed and stuck to the couch! Haha

By the way guys, start learning a thing or 2 with Top Gear (show).

It's now airing on Cable in the US on the History Channel.

Stop being car/racing n00bs and learn stuff from that show.
Maybe we'll be as good as the Europeans and the Japanese.

Top Gear is and has been one of my favorite TV shows since before Jeremy Clarkson was a host (20+ years back), back when he was just one of the team doing reports. The thing about Top Gear that works best no is the interplay between the three hosts, they are best mates who play jokes on eachother and are total petrol heads. This History channel version isn't the original, and while it may be pretty decent, stick to BBC America and the original.

Gotta say though the current three hosts (Jezza, Captain Slow and the Hamster) are the best the show's had by a country mile. Actually the three of them together are easily the best hosting team on TV with Mythbusters coming a close second.

Heh... Top Gear. I love it. I also love that the Top Gear Test Track is one of the tracks in GT5... I wonder if anyone is going to be able to beat The Stig. One thing I don't love is the Australian Top Gear. It is alright. And it's had some class segments, but it's not even close to being as good as the original. Well, with the exception of Shane Jacobson. But he's awesome, so he doesn't count.

dont have many episodes either, which is a good thing but they started like what 4 weeks ago, tuned in last night and it was not on the UK show was back on channel 9.
one reason i loathe channel 9 they say a all new episode of top gear, than its on, im watching it....... oh wait i saw this episode 3 months ago on BBC.
how is it a new episode when its already been aired?
what happened to the good old days where false advertising was illegal?
not too mention they spend more time with adds than the actual show!
no wonder no one buys foxtell anymore, everything they show is a repeat, and they spend more time showing adds than the shows you paid too watch!

Yeah, Warnie driving that thing was quite stupid... He has nothing to do with the show anyway. And I think that it's just a mid-season hiatus, rather than the end of the show. Also, I think they consider the premiere on their channel as a new episode, which makes it, by their logic, not false advertising. And Austar/Foxtel are just plain rip-offs.

tis only been on for like 3 weeks!
oh well, hope they come back soon i really enjoy watching it.
no where near as good as the UK top gear, but only place to see reviews of cars on TV.
wonder when the UK new series will start, so many cars releasing this year i want to see them review.
saw the Mercedes SLS AMG at this years motor show, OMFG that things so imposing!
you dont notice how big it is in pictures, or vids but standing next to it just takes your breath away!
definitely the most impressive car on show floor!
