Gran Turismo 5: All Available Features
If you don't have Gran Turismo 5 just yet, maybe you'd like to see what you're missing.
In addition to the ridiculous amount of media floating around out there, we've got the full list of features: this is what the game offers for your entertainment; beyond the A-Spec and B-Spec modes, there are also a variety of special events and of course, multiple ways to "Build and Upgrade Your Car Collection." You can shop and tune to your heart's content and don't forget that your garage can store up to 1,000 vehicles...which is just downright insane. GT Auto is all about making your car shine brightly in the sunlight; pick out new rims, spring for a new paint job, give it a wash, etc. And once you're satisfied with your ride, it's time to hit the track; it makes sense to start with Practice and the available License Tests, as you can learn a lot, and those Licenses will prove invaluable. Also, as you all know, this time around, GT comes with the option of online play and you can jump into the lobby whenever you wish. Just be prepared for a definite test of skill...
Maybe you already knew all this, but it's good to be aware of all the features. Besides, after reading, it'll probably up your anticipation level even more.

Booze, it would be a much easier pill to swallow for people if while ignoring your distaste for GT you actually had good taste in other titles.
There is more to life than CoD, my son.

It seems as if they've taken points off for the most ridiculous of reasons. Bah! It's IGN... use them for info, but avoid for reviews.
CVG gave it an 8 flat...

if what they say is accurate i think its more than fair.
they did not like the fact that PD have spent 6 years making the game, and only 200 of the cars are pro the rest are upscale PS2 models.
6 years for HD versions of cars which are a generation old?
theres a serious lack of upgrades, you cant upgrade the brakes.
the track editor is fairly limited, nothing like what MNR has.
crappy zombie like AI, which GT is notorious for.
and a crappy damage model, apparently even if you slam into a wall at top speed all you get is a disfigured polygon, not the full damage you would expect from "the true simulator".
if that is all correct, than i think a 8.5 is more than fair!

Gran Turismo could be so good that they'd get a post coital glow after playing and still IGN and others would subtract from the score and pick petty fault. The game has raise expectations to such a height that it doesn't matter how good it is in comparison to any other actual game. I should point out that IGN gave NFS Hot Pursuit a 90/100 and actually awarded Forza 3 94/100. Coincidentally, IGN also gave GT5 Prologue 85/100.
So, according to their review scores, GT5 is so much less worthy than Forza 3 that it gets 9% less of a score, and GT5 is on par with Prologue? Eh, considering the huge number of additional features, cars and tracks that is simply bullsh.....t.
It doesn't matter if GT5 is better than Forza 3, GT5 Prologue or NFS Hot Pursuit, some crappy little fanboy masquerading as a legitimate 'journalist' can still give a crap review and be taken seriously.
I call BS on IGN based on their own review scores. And don't *anyone* try to justify it by saying that different reviewers see things differently.
Here's one of the closing comments from IGN's review "Gran Turismo 5 is a 10/10 simulator wrapped up in a 5/10 game". You know what, I call BS on that, and on IGN and on the reviewer and on the entire gaming media if that is the kind of review that passes muster these days. I read the review, and the biggest complaints are that the standard cars aren't as good as the premium ones and that the Top Gear test track is sparse. How in hell this means that the game apparently merits a 5/10 in the reviewer's mind I'll never know.
The only possible way I can rationalize this is that the dweeb doing the review is not a Gran Turismo fan. I point blank refuse to believe that this is a 10/10 simulator wrapped in a 5/10 game. Hell, you might say that about Prologue, it was missing so many things, but now we have the full game, with everything. No, this IGN review is total trash, a scandal. But, I know that it won't matter, I know that no one really gives a damn, integrity in journalism is so hard to find these days which is why I comment here and no where else. It's small oasis amidst a wasteland of trashed integrity and broken ideals.

On a more serious note I do believe they are way off in their scoring as the complaints they send out are relatively minimal yet give what to me sound like an A- is a B

How are the menus complicated? You just click on the event you want and go race. (even a caveman can figure that out)
AI has always been great, sure they don't notice you much but they've always been challenging and on par with most other game's AI.
You can turn on/off damage.

Wednesday, November 24, 2010 @ 8:38:43 AM
all other sites are criticizing the AI which is still so lame (and I can approve with that ) and beside the bad damaging module which is really different from standard cars to premium cars
why why why spending 6 years on transporting cars from GT4 to GT5 without any improvements to get them as good as premium as we are having 200 good cars and 800 not that good cars

They gave NFS HP a 90/100 and Forza 3 94/100. Hell, even GT5 Prolog got 85/100. If you review the game based on the premium cars alone, the game still has as many or more cars, tracks and options than any other racer around, better graphics, physics and game play. Saying this;
""Gran Turismo 5 is a 10/10 simulator wrapped up in a 5/10 game"."
Pretty much gives the game away. Any game that is described as a 5/10 game is utterly broken. Not just a little, but utterly broken. Even GT-PSP merits more than that and it has no tuning to speak of, no customization and no career mode. IGN's review is biased garbage.

Basically if it takes gt6 6 years to come out Gt may have a tough lifespan ahead of it... This game was supposed to blow reviewers minds and I'm certain it will still blow mine, I don't buy In to every review, bit it shouldn't be sitting at an 86 on metacritic after 10 reviews! Regardless if 86 is a good score, it should be in the 90' rather it was supposed to be in the 90'!

Kazunori Yamauchi's very first Gran Turismo game was 15 years in the making.......
When game designer Kazunori Yamauchi was a 15-year-old, he came up with an idea for a game he'd love to make: a racing game with with real cars and real physics.
In 1997, he finally released that game, Gran Turismo, on the PlayStation.

if you check out game trailers, they dont even have a video review, gamespot has a shitty ass launch center with 3 videos, ign had a review gave it an 8.5 out of ten n the only bad thing they had to say about it was the bad interface and long load times. hell the game isnt even nominated on the SPIKE VGAs and last but not least, my copy of the collectors edition was cancelled by gamestop so they forcing me to get the regular edition. ( they didn't even have a reason for me, they just said they dont have the collectors edition any more.
a lot of hating on the game im noticing. only love im seeing for it is on destructoid (100%) and on this site.

BTW this is from IGN's review, it kind of sums up the entire thing.
"Gran Turismo 5 is a 10/10 simulator wrapped up in a 5/10 game".
I also have to point out that IGN gave NFS Hot Pursuit a 90/100 and actually awarded Forza 3 94/100. Coincidentally, IGN also gave GT5 Prologue 85/100. So, how in hell GT5 (full game) merits only 85/100 I do not know. It's complete BS.
@Temjin,
Great analysis. I knew that this would happen though. The game has taken so long and despite having 200+ premium cars which surpass anything in any other racing game (and out number the cars in any other racing game), it appears that *some* reviewers wish to castigate the game because of the 800 or so 'standard' cars which presumably look no better than the ones in Prologue (oh, such a pity since they looked awesome). It's simple inherent bias and BS, and I hate it.

Iv been playing Dirt 2 for a while they gave it a rating around 8.5 the things to mention there is no great car collection with not that worthy graphics with a little game mods less than realistic car physics and still they managed to give it 8.5
such a game Im sure we will all find it situated within GT5 in one of its mode with everything is better and here we go with IGN score for GT5 8.5

but the funny thing about their complains that you cant find 200 highly detailed cars like that in GT5 in any other games and they still moaning that GT5 has so many standard cars
the thing about your comment I need to say that providing the other 800 cars with premium features will take a long time that should be a GT6 worthy maybe they will take around 3 years, its not an easy job
but still , people should know that 200 premium cars is huge enormous number no one should underestimate it

One being we are in a pick up n play generation were all games must be accessible to people to succeed. Take cod it's widely recognized because anyone can pick it up an get kills. Where GT takes actual skill to get the most out of it. So a need for speed will excel this generation where as a GT will struggle in the eyes is some people. Unfrtunately reviewers are some of them. They criticize the game for what it is not, instead of just praising it for what it is... A full blown race simulator!
Second is I'm noticing a lot of anticipation for the game. I think it took so long that people expect more than 200 premium cars when in reality the 200 premiums is still more cars than any other game has altogether! But none the less with he length of time it took to release, people expect more in return! The problem there is what is actually in the game is still far more than you would see anywhere else!
Bottom Line if your not a race fan you may be safer not Gettin it. But if your a gamer and appreciate greatness in all areas of gaming, and see where the heart of GT lies. Then you'd be a fool to let these reviews sway your decision!

Personally I wasn't waiting for a review anyway. Now I have the game (it's installing right now), I can make up my own mind. I am going to write a review of my own in a week or so, but if Ben/PSXExtreme is kind enough to put it up on the user reviews section I will probably do a first impressions thing on Friday. I suspect there may be a few others doing the same.

In a circumstance such as this, it helps demonstrate my belief that game reviews are really quite subjective no matter how objective a reviewer believes they're trying to be. There is no real standard to judge perfect form in video games. It's one of the reasons I don't think a 10/10 should represent perfection.
Perfection isn't the point, and there's no such thing as perfection because of how much of gaming is relative in nature. It's simply not a medium that gets measured against a perfect ideology of form. A gymnast can perform a series of moves that are rated against a perfect understanding of that form, but gaming only loosely attempts to adhere to that standard--with ample amounts of "grey area."
Rather, a game tends to score well for adhering to a set of ever evolving proficiencies that aren't written in any sort of universal rule book--there's no teacher's manual with right answers. Editors will bring to the table their own sets of beliefs and values that they draw from their own vaguely defined rule book that weigh in on the verdict of a game. Not to mention their own human set of biases and preferences. But outside of some very basic design conventions, control responsiveness and technical proficiencies, most of their evaluation is derived from an emotional response to the content being presented.
What's most interesting, is that despite how fundamentally flawed the review process is, gamers will still allow a scoring process to dictate their purchasing decision. It's nearly as if a review better indicates to the gamer a level of recommendation from one gamer to another formed on the basis of an emotional perspective, rather than on a level of perfection.
I have to say I'm quite surprised by how lackluster the response has been towards GT5.
Despite this, I look forward to playing the game come Christmas.

I've played a bit today. I have 8/10 golds on my B license, a few beginner's race wins, i've done both beginner NASCAR lessons, and i've played around with the photo mode a bit. I feel like i've barely even touched the game.
Since it always gets compared to Forza 3, i'll just bring it up. Yes, Forza 3 has more high-detail cars. But gt5's premiums are just insane. The standards look great as well from what i've seen, but i havent driven one yet so i didnt see them in photomode.
GT5 has tons more content than Forza, a better phyiscs system, a better lighting system, more tracks, more cars overall, better wheel support, etc.
And yet is scores lower...? I cant figure out why. People say it feels "dated" but i have no idea what the hell that is supposed to mean and nobody can seem to explain it.
Idk, i've just barely gotten started and i'm in love. Maybe because i dont care about the "game" stuff, as IGN says, and more about the racing. I bought GT5 so i could drive, everything else is extra, and GT5 is a damn fine driving game.

I remember the Turn 10 director claiming that about the GT series when he was trying to show boat Forza 3. He referred to the GT series as this old outdated series, or something, I can't quite remember but I'm sure you get the idea, and that Forza 3 is somehow so much more awesome with the all new and more amazing stuff.... replay mode, online auctioning, and car customizing designs? How does that make it so much more.. What about the game? The simulator it's supposed to be? How did that become old fashioned.. anyway. sad.
