OPM Provides New ME2 PS3 Details
Mass Effect 2 is headed to the PlayStation 3 in January and if you weren't excited before, you might be after reading the most recent info update.
The latest issue of OPM features ME2 and the magazine dishes on plenty of details set to entice the RPG aficionado who didn't get a chance to play BioWare's excellent adventure on the Xbox 360 or PC. Some of that info has been posted over at the NeoGAF forums and here are the highlights:
-- Nearly $100 of additional content, all 3 major expansion packs and over a doze on smaller Pieces of DLC altogether adds up to approximately 20 hours of additional gameplay.
-- The PS3 version will also feature 3 years worth of engine updates and every patch release for the game.
-- The developers promise that they are not taking any shortcuts. "Oftentimes when you got to the PS3 you see stuff like down-resing and using a smaller than 720p resolution to try and get back some of the framerate. We haven't done that says producer Jesse Houston, we really wanted to try to make it as good, if not better than the Xbox version."
There are a lot of reasons to want ME2 for the PS3 when it arrives, and perhaps one of the biggest is that RPGs aren't quite as numerous this generation. For our part, we're most interested in Dragon Age II, which is scheduled to release in March; it's about as close to traditional role-playing as we're gonna get these days.

Dragon Age II is a lock for sure, and I hope they have fixed the frame rate in that series.

Seeing that Bioware is concerned about not letting ME2 be recognized as a lesser port, I'm hopeful that PS3 users will get a quality experience with this game.
Unfortunately, I can't think of a single UE3 game that's ever ran better on PS3 over 360.. but there's always a first time for everything, right?
Hopefully, these upgrades they speak of offload work onto the SPU's. Really, right off the bat, the PS3 should be able to handle some edge smoothing and superior motion blur post-processing effects.

I think it's pretty safe to claim that, usually, UE3 games run better on 360 than PS3, but that's not to say few games, like UT3, run virtually the same. Aside from UT3, I really can't think of another that was so close. I can name quite a few that ran a lot worse, though =
Hopefully, these discrepancies can be chalked up to the skill of the developer. Perhaps, a developer as experienced as Bioware can make a near seamless, if not better, version for PS3 gamers, even with UE3.

Try really are making an impact and a lot of devs should take advice. I really would like to play ME first because I would mch rather play the prequal first... But theirs mo way I'll pass up on ME2 because of that! From the sounds of it I'd be a fool to pass up on it! I can't wait!
