PSXE Poll Update: Most Intend To Hit The Track In GT5

Simulators aren't for everyone. It's just a fact. Gran Turismo 5 really won't do anything for those who will only play the likes of Burnout or Need for Speed.

But because the game is that good, and because owners of PlayStation platforms have been treated to quality products from Polyphony Digital for a good 13 years now, the vast majority of last week's poll participants intend to own GT5 at some point. In fact, most got it on day one, and according to our in-depth analysis, those gamers made the right decision. While there is quite the controversy surrounding the amazing title, we simply opted to ignore it all, take our time, and try to determine if GT5 delivers on its promise of realism and authenticity. As usual, when it comes to high-profile games, we made a great effort to deliver an accurate, reliable review that will give consumers the best recommendation possible. To buy or not to buy; that's what concerns most all consumers, and thus, it's a top priority for us.

This week, despite a ridiculous amount of work, we know we fell a little behind in the reviews. We're fairly certain we had all the big titles covered but we just couldn't nail 'em all, and as we scramble to play a bit of catch-up, we'd like to know: which recently released title would you most like to see us review? The very well received NHL 11? That great Sly Collection? The fitness-minded and oft-advertised EA Sports Active 2? The Sims 3? Let us know.

I'm still waiting for the Deadliest Warrior review. Jeesh, it didn't even make the poll.. =p (while I'm being sarcastic, I do sort of want it reviewed)

By default I picked The Fight: Lights Out. I nearly picked the Sly Collection but those reviews have basically been done already.

Deadliest Warrior is a show on spike tv where they put warriors from different decades and put them against each other and they made it into a game.

Panda, I didn't know it was related to a TV show =/
That makes me think less of it =(

Anyway, judging from the demo, while the game is below many of todays gaming standards in terms of presentational qualities, I admired the effort that went into implementing some semi-original game play conventions.

Fighting games are pretty cookie-cutter these days (I love 'em though). But DW does a few things I always sort of imagined the genre to have implemented at some point sooner. I honestly hope the game sells well enough that the dev team gets the funding and resources necessary to help flesh the game out into something greater that I think it could become. It'll probably get my money.

There's a free demo. Try it out!

I also dig the new Tifa pic, World. I remember always eagerly anticipating the next cool CG scene in FF7, back in the day.

Best way to describe Deadliest Warrior; a trimmed down version of Mortal Kombat that isn't as good. Less moves, less characters, same amount of blood (maybe more).

The game play is sub-par and graphics are mediocre. It's a decent game for fans of the show, but the game won't amaze very many for very long.

If you can not get enough of hacking off body parts then you might find enjoyment in this game.

Presentation: 4/10
Gameplay: 6/10
Sound: 4/10
Graphics: 6/10

Total: 5/10 - and I'm being generous. I would wait for a price drop.

Thanks for the quick review there.

I liked the fatigue bar, the damage over time effects from a deep wound, and the very responsive control. Plus, the game doesn't focus on crazy canned-combos and memorized button tapping sequences. I also liked how the high, mid, and low attacks were mapped to specific buttons which is reminiscent of Kakuto Chojin. Also, the inclusion of shielded heavier warriors vs more agile nimble warriors--NINJAS--make for interesting match ups.
There's a similar MK vibe to the game in presentation, but when you examine the specifics there's a lot of unique properties to the game's play. I'd like to support the devs by contributing to their cause and, hopefully, with enough sales they do a proper sequel that has production values that compare with the norm today.

The demo is a great indicator of what the battles are like. There are other modes in the game, such as Survival which is probably the best part of the game.

If you think spending a few dollars for several hours of entertainment is well spent, then I would have to recommend that you pick it up. But, if you're watching your budget or just don't want to shell out hard earned money for something mediocre, you might want to look somewhere else to satisfy such as "Way of the Samurai 3". Not that it's a better game, but at least you get more playing time out of it.

Hey guys, could you review both Lights Out and Sly Collection?

But if I had to choose I'd say Lights Out since it's actually a new game.

Sly Collection is fun, just check reviews for the individual games and there's your answer :), but in HD.

Sadly many think that because it's a platformer it's only for "kids."

I fear many of you would have passed up on Super Mario World if it came out today with better graphics.

Oh wait, many of you are missing out on Super Mario Galaxy 2. Shame, you should all be ashamed.

It's tough to sell a 2D scroller these days unless it's on the PSN.... I would definitely pass on Super Mario World today....for the same reason I passed on the New Super Mario Brothers game.

As for SMG2...I got bored alot quicker this time around than with the first game. I completede about 50-75% of the "comet" levels in the first SMG, but SMG2 to me was just more of the same. Some cool level designs, but so extremely repetitive.

And I HATE the spring Mario....worst idea EVER! (just sayin')

i never really enjoy sims that much since there the same, just driving around a track over and over again.
sure the tracks change, the car you drive changes but your essentially doing the same thing over and over again, gets boring.
thats why i normally enjoy arcade games more because there is normally multiple gameplay modes like NFS undercover you have cop chases, races, car stealing and many more.
or the king of car racing games, burnout paradise best car game ever released!
but GT5 is seriously addictive, playing through the licenses trying to finish them, unlock the silver trophy than you want to play it a few more times and shoot for the gold.

It's a shame... you look at metacritic and there are "game" sites whom give GT5 only a 7. GT5 does not deserve a 7, it simply is not a 7 (mediocre) title.

Then if you read that review...

GT5 was doomed to fail, really. It could have come with a free car, and people would still have given it a 8 out of 10.

To me, the most alluring thing about GT5 (and any Gran turismo game) is the ability to own and tune virtually any car I want, and then drive it. OK it's virtual, but how many of us will ever own a DB9 or Ford GT in reality. Gran Turismo really does let you escape reality into a virtuality where you can own and drive one of these fantastic cars. Isn't that one of the reasons we all play games?

1, 2, 3...4... Count em.. 4 PS3s sold just for GT5 alone. I have alot of car fanatic friends and they absolutely love this game. The cars, the tracks the tuning... Everything. Two of them are even getting the G27s too. Its like all their car magazines combined and come to life. Then I showed the GTTV access and they asked how much. They did not expect that to be free. Car enthusiasts unite!

As far as this weeks poll. I chose Lights Out because I am interested to know if this is a game that can grow into something more. Not crazy about it but if it can give some of my friends who are into fighting an option to fight without injury then maybe I can sell some more PS3s. I should work for Sony.
