Jaffe Responds To PS3 Preference: "I Can't Have An Opinion?"

David Jaffe began his career with Sony and in speaking with him, it's clear he has the highest respect for the mega-global electronics corporation. It's at least part of the reason - presumably - that his new development studio, Eat Sleep Play, makes titles exclusively for the PS3.

He has often stated his preference for Sony's machine in the past but when Destructoid posted an article about this subject, site members made some relatively hostile, ill-informed comments...which is never a good idea when dealing with Jaffe. He responded promptly at his Twitter page:

"Holy f**k, Destructoid Xbox only owners out in full force against me. WTF? I can't have an opinion? It's not that we would not LOVE to have our games in every home in the world...even the ones w/out electricity. F**k it- we don't care! It's just that we value our relationship with Sony very, very much. They give us extra time to make the game great, lots of creative and marketing and business support. And we like the people over there tons; they are like family. Why is it so hard to understand we'd like 2 stay in that kind of working relationship?"

He later clarified that his words weren't an attack on Destructoid; in fact, he likes the site just fine. It was just a matter of responding to statements he didn't take kindly to, and we suppose he's perfectly entitled. Some designers just feel more comfortable with certain hardware; that's the way things are. Jaffe has a long - and prolific - history with Sony, so it shouldn't be any surprise that he feels comfortable working with them on most any project.

We won't be commenting further on the situation. It has pretty well dried up...let's just say, like developers, certain sites are on different wavelengths.

Yea, in this kind of world in the eyes of an Xbox fanboy, if you ONLY own a PS3, you 'MUST' be a PS3 fanboy because you clearly haven't played or owned the 360 and if you did, you'd be on THEIR bandwagon. I own a PS3 and Wii, but HONESTLY I've wanted a 360 just for Gears and Lost Odyssey, but you just think to yourself and without being a fanboy, it barely has any games towards my damn field of interest! I buy a console for the Games, first and foremost. That means my investment to the price of the console must be met equally or higher-than, with great quality games and I'm afraid 360 as well as its infamous faulty-rate is not worth the expenses and concern. I've had a preference to Sony products not because I am a fanboy, but I know they're quality made, and Sony usually gets a great deal of quality-titles and the sequels from PS1/PS2 days came to PS3 that I wanted like MGS4 as a Must.

PS3 is my preference this generation as PS2 was my own last generation. I'd rather consider myself a logical Gamer. I'll buy the 360 just as I did the Gamecube when its price goes down and its life is over, I don't want to pay or Xbox Live and I don't need to play Online, I just want to experience the few games it DOES offer.

See even Jaffe gets attacked by them, that's why i don't like a lot of the sites out there, IGN, Kotaku, destructoid just to name a few. This is why i like this site honest opinions and no immature arguments. This site can have a good conversation/debate about something.

Bizzare Creations openly revealed that a big reason they abandoned Project Gotham and went multi-plat was because MS created ultimatums for the studio. MS forced their product out for release before the team felt prepared that their game's were ready to ship. Today, PGR4 can be had used at Gamestop's for $5 =

It's nice reading that some devs have had positive experiences working with larger corporations who are willing to work with their creative partners.

It's kinda like how I respect Bungie, Lionhead, Epic's Gears series and, for a long while, Valve for choosing to keep their games exclusive to 360 to try and get the most out of it. Some developers like to work on 1 platform to try and create an amazing game that suits the hardware perfectly, and I respect that.

Even the Wii can show some fantastic exclusive games if you can look beyond the shovelware.

Those attacks on Jaffe is a really, really poor example of gamer behaviour. Those members at Destructoid should be ashamed of themselves. They wonder why no one takes them seriously or treats them with respect, then they go and say dumb things like that. Shameful.

I only wish more gaming websites were like this one. Sure, this site is preferenced towards Playstation branded stuff, but a lot of members here also have open minds and are intelligent enough to argue without name calling or swearing. And I'm talking legitimate arguments with information to back it up! Opinions are also highly respected round here too, and I like that.

If someone here likes Halo and explains why, we accept it. This is just the wonderful community Ben has created for us.

If there's a respectful and mature Wii and 360 website similar to this one, please let me know members of PSXextreme. I like my gaming news and I can't get ALL of it from here alone, know what I mean?

Yes now that GT5 was released, they cant stop trolling the game saying how much better FORZA3 is just because of Metacritic and IGN.

The most funny thing is when they claim to already played the game and giving an unbiased opinion xD because they also have a Ps3, I always ask for the psname and they troll me back but rarely prove to have one.

Reminds me of the story I told on here last year about that Xbot I ran across when I was on Youtube back in 2009.. Dude didn't want to give the PS3 any credit and he also down grade the exclusive line up.

I don't get where does the hate for the PS3 comes from? I don't care for the 360 I admit that yet I don't believe in bashing the 360 just for the hell of it.

To the subject at hand this is just plain ole fashion hypocrisy on the part of the Xbox community. If someone at Epic games or Valve said the things Jaffe said about the 360 they will be held up as a hero by them.

I am really curious as to why this vicious hate for PS3 come about to begin with. I'm a xbox fan and I'm disappointed in MS. Not enough to punch people in the face and tell off David Jaffe, but it bothers me that there's hardly anything on the horizon from MS to get excited about. It's like their system has been progressively becoming less interesting in games. I think their E3 presentation earlier this year showed how polarized their efforts have become. Audience "A" likes competitive online shooters (looks at CoD and Gears 3) and their hopeful audience "B" wants to dance around their living room in front of a camera.

Is this it?

Is this the content that is defining the future of their platform?
I don't understand what their marketing ideology is, there's been no consistency for me to trust their leadership as a well rounded gaming provider. They ditched their powerful hardware identity with the original Xbox and transitioned 4 years later into streamlined affordability provider. The japanese partners who've tried to bring across their Playstation-centric games like Lost Odyssey, Ninja Gaiden, and DOA have failed at integrating into MS's highly concentrated culture of competitive online gamer. Games that try to diversify the 360's library like Alan Wake can't find an audience large enough to appreciate such content. Now, MS's biggest announcements come in the form of CoD exclusivity agreements with add-on content, announcing new LIVE services, and redoing their dashboard.
Now, I get to wade through their expensive efforts at trying to motivate interests in Kinect....

Oh wait, I got a PS3/PSP WOO HOO!

I'm in the same boat. I'm a 360 fan while being no fan of MS. It's disappointing to see the lack of creativity in most of the exclusive software. I loved Alan Wake and wish MS would work with companies to develop more quality IPs than exclusive DLC deals on multiplatform titles. I'd like to see them work with a publisher on something like Heavy Rain for the 360. It's not a major issue to me as I have a PS3 and can enjoy those titles right now but it'd still be nice to see the machine get a better balance of quality games.

Because they ave realized that they might have made the wrong choice. Have you ever notice (and I'm certain that you have, and probably know the psychological basis for the reaction...) how people often get hostile when shown a truth that they know but want to avoid?

I mean, many people have bought into the 360 very deeply, and have replaced one or more units, and spent a decent amount of money on a system that is lagging behind in several ways. Along comes Sony to wreck the party by having a successful PS3 that is continuing to forge ahead. Since they fear making the wrong choice, they have to denigrate the other valid choice, and the strength of that effort is directly proportional to how deeply they have bought into the 360.

This is exactly what happened with the HD-DVD/BluRay thing. The HD-DVD folks still, to this day, continue to paint BluRay as a failure. Amusingly even after HD-DVD had died, they maintained that it was technically superior. Yet ironically they switched tactic and started claiming that optical discs were dead and everything would go digital download anyway. So they do the two things most typical of someone who feels they are in the wrong, but don't want to admit it. They attack, and shift ground.

Well no it's no surprise they do it in almost every article they do, and with Sony. I like how (Jim Sterling) says he owns the PS3, yet he's attacking sony in some of his articles.

He says it's only a joke but I'm not buying it. I think the only reason why that site is going, is because of the twisted wordplay and flame bait for people to go in and increases of traffic on the site due to the flame baiting article.

I can't believe a site like that exists like other trashy sites like it.

I read that article earlier today. The way the story was written, it was sort of stirring the pot.

Then again, most kids on Destructoid don't read past the first few lines. Hardly anyone made a comment about how Jaffe got some kid a FREE PS3...no one else felt that was really cool?

Someone should make a "video games rating site."

Where sites are rated by accuracy, professionalism, and a healthy and educative community:

-psxe: 10/10
-Destruction: 1/10
-IGN: 0.5/10
-Gamespot: 5/10

etc.

I'd start this site, hell I might just do that when the economy rebounds. Don't care if I get a lot of traffic in it or not. It has to be done.

This guy is legendary. He takes no sh**. I mean, going off at a bunch of random Destructoid posters... I don't blame him. And he still gets awesome points for the secret in the first God of War that has him and Kratos talking.

I don't go to Destructiod often, so I can't really comment on the situation over there, but I do frequent a few other sites, and each of them has quite the bias towards the 360. It seems to be lessening nowadays, but it is still very much present. The writers and editors stoke the coals and the commenters go insane. I suppose it is a good way of getting traffic. As other above me have stated, I'm glad that the boys here at PSXE don't lower themselves to flamebait articles, and the community is just so friendly. Simply fantastic.

And now, for something completely different. Only one month left of 2010... Who's looking back and wondering what they could have/should have done differently? Because I know I am. Maybe rectification can come for me in December.

I'd have to think it was MS first, and then secondly, causing a lot of the kiddie X-boxers to go bonkers.

Especially seeing since M$ bum-rushed out a seriously failure-prone machine first, just so MS could give it a year's head start on the PS3

it started with the original x-box and the ps2, at least in my part of the world. I knew so many newcomers to the gaming world who harped on the ps2 for it's failure issues (the disc read errors and such) exaggerated them and jumped on the x-box bandwagon. GameStop followed suit and started employing folks that were religious X-Box players, and then began bashing the PS3 before its release.

That was my experience of it, at least.

You can easily fix the Disc Read Error, they probably didn't know you yourself can fix it without any help from anyone, so that's of no issue to me.

Usually when that happens to me it's either the Laser has stuff on it, or the console has a lot of Dust clogging up everything and when you remove it presto brand-like new console when you load up a disc it doesn't slow down like before. As soon as you put that disc in it's already launched the game.

I'm guessing some of them didn't know that could be corrected. There might be other methods as well, but I'm not sure. Those are the only 2 i know. I think that's the only 2 ways of fixing it though? If someone else knows just add a tip to my reply or something.

The really early PS2s gradually lost alignment of the laser head. But, it took a long time to happen - unless the console got dropped or something. It was easily fixed, there is a screw to adjust the lens. I still have my original launch model PS2 and it still works - after I manually adjusted the laser.

Generally, the more dirty/dusty the lens was, the more quickly the problem became evident too. So keeping the unit clean, definitely helped.

Ah, thanks Highlander. I didn't know you could adjust the lens that's pretty cool. I'm guessing that's also a factor in the Disc Read Error as well correct?

I've dropped it by accident a couple of times still works like a champ, the only thing i ever had to do with it was clean out the systems insides because of dust, that's what caused my Disc Read Error, but it's still running like it's brand spanking new. Which is great.

Oh so was a Sterling article that explains all, he just trolls and that's fine because people shouldn't take him seriously, problem was the day when he wrote that article about Ps3 fans being the worst..it was funny but the backlash awful! a bunch of xbros took it too seriously and plagued the site following his fake gods Sterling xD.

But I'm not mad about him he just does his job, problem are some of the sheep that follows him.

If they actually are that hardcore of a 360 fan, kind of makes you wonder how many of the people making the comments actually know who Jaffe is...

They know now... Well If they really want to play one of his games, they now how to do it.

And not to flame the war but I find it funny that most of the people that I know that have bought a PS3 after starting out on a 360, aren't interested at all in going back to the 360. I've got a few friends that have told me that their 360 just collects dust now.

I'll start out by saying that I most certainly know and knew who jaffe is, but i am an opposite case as you. i bought a 360 in early 2009, then bought a ps3 earlier this year for God of War and Final Fantasy XIII, but after i beat those, i reverted back to my 360. i like the controller better, it just fits me better. now excuse me, i'm gonna go hide because of what i just said.

I'm starting to think that the Xbox fanboys are being brainwashed by Microsoft. Some of their games are cool, it's just the 360 system itself, for example, tilt the system and their you have some scratched up disc.

That's what turned me into the PS world when I noticed that I grew up watching TV on a Sony for more than 20 years (a couple deadstops in between). Sony makes reliable equipment.

The ps3 can be tilted with it's game spinning in there. Theres a little magnetic plastic disc the drops on top or the magnetic spindle to the disc is pressed between the 2. It's secure I've played the ps3 with it's blu-ray drive taken apart almost completely.

I own a fat 80gb backwards compatible ps3, a slim ps3, a older xbox 360 jasper model, a 360 S model, a nintendo wii, a psp, psp go, ndsi xl along with many of the classic consoles. I am a bit of a collector, but i still play them regularly. i have not touched my xbox 360s in more than 6 months. in fact i dont even know if they work anymore... I love my ps3s because they are just better than the 360. thats not my opinion... its fact. they have more uses for me than the 360 and from the menu, to the blurays, to the games. it just looks soo much better on an hdtv...

Why can't we all just get along? Ok, some people like ps3 better, some people like xbox better. whats the point in fighting over it? I, for one, love my ps3, but i simply prefer my xbox. it's annoying and unfair how these people are giving xbox fans a bad name.

Sorakey, did you know dream gear has a ps3 controller that has the analog set-up of the xbox controller? Maybe buying that will get you to play your ps3 more.

Anyway, I never understood the whole console war thing. I have a ps3 and i am saving up for an xbox. Im poor, so i don't understand why those richer than i am won't do the same.
