New Ghostbusters Game Goes Digital In The Spring

You know, Ghostbusters: The Video Game was pretty good. It was quite entertaining and thanks to favorable reviews, it sold over 1 million copies.

So does this warrant a sequel? Well, yes and no. It warrants a follow-up title, but one that isn't a big-budget production. According to GameHunters at USA Today, Wanako is currently developing Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, a downloadable installment for the PSN, XBLA and PC. It's a four-player adventure (both locally and online) where players strap on a proton pack and take down the invading spirits. Included are "gigantic bosses that require teamwork" and several different attacks, like the proton stream, plasma inductor and fermion shock. Unfortunately, none of the original actors are scheduled to be involved in the game but as consolation, we'll finally get to drive the Ecto-3. As you can see by the screenshot, this appears to be a top-down action game; this style has lent itself well to the downloadable realm, as Dead Nation and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light have excelled using that view.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime should be ready to go in the spring. Who's up for some digital ghost nabbing?

What's wrong with top down? The way I see it, if these kind of games become popular, and are good quality fun, it just might open the door for those downloadable "classic" RPGs we're all yearning for.

What's with this sudden trend of top-down shooters? I mean, yes, I have enjoyed the past three (Dead Nation, Lara Croft, Alien Breed: Impact) but that doesn't mean I want other franchises to follow suit. Irregardless, I'll buy this if only to support it in hopes of receiving a REAL sequel to Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

Also, the statement "gigantic bosses that require teamwork" greatly worries me. I'm not much of a MP player so are they essentially saying that this will be near-impossible if you're playing a single player campaign? I don't like the sound of that.

Well, it might mean you'll be issuing orders to the other three guys in a single-player setting. Just a guess.

Alienange,

Nothing's wrong with top down, I'm not downing them at all, but normally I just don't enjoy them much.

I like to see all the surrounding area "around me", not just the top of what winds up for me being basically being just a fancy map.

Hmm... top-down arcade style? Actually, I like it. It reminds me of the recent Lara Croft game.

Nothing wrong with a little arcade style fun. Almost reminds me of Gauntlet.

I don't care what angle you're forced to play in, if it's fun I'll get it.

Ghostbusters: The video game was one of my favorite games of 2009 and I was hoping for a sequel that feature the cast from the first game. But hey if they feature the rookie from the first game and his team I'll give it a chance.

Ghostbusters, Back to the future, the 80s are taking over. Maybe Ben will get his Vice City 2 after all.

Damn straight Highlander. What I wouldn't give for a new guantlet. I wasn't a fan of the most recent one. But all the cartoony looking ones were great.

The Ghostbusters game certainly had its fair share of problems. Something tells me that going this route is the right decision. It will be less expensive and the effect will be the same.

Top-down action games are making a solid presence. It's a great camera view and the game play is ultra fun. Any other games, like Ghostbusters, that will come in the near future are welcomed.
