Neil Patrick Harris: Reason Enough To Watch The VGAs

Here's a general rule of thumb: Neil Patrick Harris is cool. It's just the way things are.

So maybe the fact that Harris is hosting this year's Video Game Awards on Spike TV will be enough to entice you to watch. It's freakin' Doogie hosting the VMAs. It's just so grand. On top of which, the show will also welcome big names like Danny Devito, Kaitlin Olson, and Rob McElhenney of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" fame; it's a solid complement to Harris, who has starred in another sitcom, "How I Met Your Mother." Also, expect to see director Guillermo Del Toro, Nathan Fillion, Chris Hemsworth, Tony Hawk, and more. You can bet that when Fillion takes the stage - for whatever reason he's there - you'll hear the crowd spontaneously burst into chants of "Drake, Drake, Drake!" Just a guess. It isn't that Mark Wahlberg is a bad actor or even a bad choice but the entire world seems to know that Fillion was born to be the "Uncharted" hero.

But anyway, the point is that Neil Patrick Harris is the host, and that works out just fine. Maybe while he's there, he can sign a few more voiceover gigs for games...just make sure to pick better ones this time around, Neil. The VGAs are coming up this weekend on December 11.

i stopped watching how i met your mother, because it is the most drawn out bull crap show ever.

well maybe not ever, but it's still pretty crappy.

they never get anywhere in terms of plot development, i mean i know it's a sitcom, but it's *supposed* to have a sort of overall storyline......

all they do is keep recycling plot elements (as with other sitcoms of course, but as i said, HIMYM is supposed to have a story). too much of the same old IMO

Funny to think of what celebrities are gamers and which prefer which console. Never cared for Neil much but he was pretty funny in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.

FYI, there's a new PS3 and GT5 update. Seems they just went live.

i hear that there is a 3rd harold and kumar movie coming out.

ps3 update v3.55 is just a security update. it seems people have hacked the 3.5 update.

my internet will not work right now as my service provider is f'n retarded and they dont know what their problem is. curious as to what the gt5 update is.

from what i know it is still comin out next year and is called a very harold and kumar christmas.

"Six years after their Guantanamo Bay adventure, stoner buds Harold Lee and Kumar Patel cause a holiday fracas by inadvertently burning down Harold's father-in-law's prize Christmas tree."

i know he works for obama but it might still happen as most of the details are from july. i could be wrong. also neil is signed on for the 3rd movie.

edit: Kal Penn has officially left his job with the White House as of June 1, 2010 to reprise his role as Kumar in the third Harold & Kumar installment. The film is currently being filmed with an expected release date in the 2011 holiday season.

yeah, a little..I've got nothing against the guy, I just don't see him as Nathan Drake...Maybe Neil Patrick could hold an Nathan Drake audition and let Fillion and Walhberg have a no holds barred match for the role...hmm..then I'd do pay per view to watch VGA's... ah what the hell throw in the warm up fight as Angelina Jolie fighting Megan Fox for the role of the next Lara Croft...and you've got a license to print money!

I don't know what the hell the producers of the Uncharted movie are doing. I read this quote by David O. Russell (writer and director) the other day.

"This idea really turns me on that there's a family that's a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities ... [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice ... We'll have the family dynamic, which we've done in a couple of movies now. And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That's a really cool idea to me."

Naughty Dog needs to either step in and force them to get Fillion or put the kabosh on the whole thing.

I read this too, and how stupid are they? Call it Uncharted, but if they want to do this, drop the 'Drake's Fortune' moniker. And bloody stupid...

Also, hang the Serenity sequel, go back to making Firefly (Of course, the prequel series to Serenity). That show was seven shades of awesome.

I agree that bringing Drake's family (which we hear diddly squat about in the games) is not the brightest of ideas. It certainly shows that they may just be taking the basic plot of UC and... "Hollywoodizing" it, if you will. Come on Naughty Dog. Step on the brake or pull in the reins. They don't know how to handle Uncharted!

Here's some great news concerning all our Australian gamers brethren out there....

AU R18+ Rating is a Go

Australian gamers concerned that recent elections and the relative silence of politicians on the issue, will be happy to hear that there is light at the end of the tunnel for the R18+ rating.

According to News.com.au by way of Joystiq and Gamspot, Australia's federal cabinet has approved the R18+ rating.

This means that games that might usually be banned from the Australian games market will now be available and will avoid having to be edited and then resubmitted for reclassification.

I don't recall ever watching any of the VGA in the past x amount of years. I've been kind of interested in this one, although with NPH hosting I'll probably be more likely to check it out.

Although mostly not gaming I did watch the Scream 2010 Awards (hmmm, was there a gaming catagory?).

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever watched the VGAs before. Sounds like it'll be a pretty juicey one this year and something I wouldn't want to miss! I honestly haven't seen anything of Fillion (not a movie person) and this'll be a great oppurtunity to see possibly just how badly Hollywood possibly screwed up the casting of UC.
I have no doubt that the moment everyone calls for him to be Drake, if he's as fitting as everyone on this site says, then I'll be calling with them! :)

I would... but as far as I know, they aren't broadcast here. Now, just imagine if Mark Wahlberg walks on stage to get it into everyone's heads that he is playing Drake, then the producers walk on, followed by Fillion, tell Wahlberg that he's fired and announcing Fillion as his replacement. Nerdgasms would reverberate across the world.
