Raven Seeking Help For "Realistic Military Shooter"

It has become quite the intriguing question: "what is Raven Software working on?"

Well, Kotaku first reported that the studio was in consideration to develop a new Call of Duty and most recently, it was brought to light that Raven might be cranking away on a new, stealthier James Bond iteration. But now, the Activision-owned studio is apparently looking for someone to help with a "realistic, first-person military shooter," as evidenced by a job listing. Found by Connected Consoles, the listing is as follows; are you qualified?

"Raven Software, developer of numerous award-winning games, including X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Wolfenstein and Singularity, is seeking a lead visual effects artist to drive the development of stunning visual effects for an established console-based, realistic, first-person military shooter."

They want someone experienced, too, as they ask for "footage of published and highly realistic effects (weapons, atmospherics, etc.) placed in highly realistic next-gen game environments with a shot-by-shot breakdown” along with “other effects (sci-fi, fantasy, etc.), game assets (models, textures, lighting), or film work a plus." Now, this doesn't sound like Bond but it does sound like CoD, or perhaps even a new Wolfenstein.

If it must be the latter, we're hoping for some big-time improvement. If it's a new CoD, that's gonna surprise us. If it's a new IP...well, let's hope for the new IP.

As they're looking for someone to work on an "established" shooter, I doubt it would be a new IP, which is a shame.

Gotcha. My lack of sleep this week as dulled my humor detection by quite a bit. :)

Grab Guardian of Light? I don't really like Top Down shooters but doing anything to Lara top-down can't be all bad.

Did they mean realistic like how "Operation Flashpoint" is realistic?

I think when they say "realistic", they're referring more to the setting, a "military shooter" as opposed to something like sci-fi. Raven's track record and Activision's business model doesn't lead me to believe they'll put together some kind of sim.

Sounds like a fourth CoD developer... How is that franchise a license to print money?
Peace.

Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of Raven's shooters. Wolfenstein and Singularity were average at best. Their X-Men/Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Wolverine games were a lot of fun, though. I'd like to see them return to the third-person world.

It was too bad Wolfenstein failed so hard. But I like the sci fi shooters best like Resistance and Killzone. Military FPS are just so passe. We don't need any more.

Call of Duty EX: Return of HITLER!

You know, if there's any single genre franchise that can go anyway aside from Mario, it's probably CoD.
