Sony Isn't Forcing Naughty Dog To Use Move In Uncharted 3

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception will support 3D but what about Sony's other nifty technology?

Well, while Sony certainly would like for Naughty Dog's latest project to support PlayStation Move, the developer doesn't feel any pressure. This according to studio co-president Christophe Balestra and director Justin Richmond, who confirm that Sony isn't forcing them to do anything:

"They're not telling us we have to use Sixaxis or Move. They'll say it'd be nice, of course, but they're not going to go against our judgment if we say it's not the right thing to do."

Interestingly enough, Sony may encourage developers of big-name games to include Move compatibility, but Richmond says "they accept it when it doesn't [work]." We'll find out next year if Naughty Dog goes and tries Move for Uncharted 3; our stance is that it might not be all that intuitive. 3D is fine and could really enhance the experience but Move in an action/adventure with both platforming and shooting elements...? Could be too much of a challenge, you know?

Well that is good to hear, wouldn't want anything holding the gameplay experience back if it doesn't work.

As cool as that sounds, I don't think I could keep up with Drake's physicality.

Sony knows that ND knows best. No way are they going to risk anything less than perfection with this game.

It would work great if implemented with minimal acrobatic gameplay. Ben, you mentioned it and it had me thinking... I'd be way more inclined to "move" more often if action like that could just get me trying without regretting that last cigarette I smoked!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not even remotely part of any gaming development... Aka, I'm completely clueless to the effort and development it takes! If it can be done (optional, possibly delayed, dlc for those interested in trying to move is fine with me too...

I doubt ND would dumb down their blockbuster franchise with motion controls. Especially after having removed it after having seen how not fun it was in the first game.

i dont think it would really be dumbed down that much. most of the moved drake does is pretty feasible with the motion controller. however, the nav controller or dual shock NEEDS to be involved if they tried. throwing a grenade would depend on speed of motion control or its movement. its not like the wii where you just flick it and it works.

I agree with everyone here. It's needless to say, that ND's main focus shold be staying true to their formula throughout development. Pouring their hear and soul into this game to make it all it can be. Then in the future, after its release and response from the consumers; may we then see a patch or dlc for move support. But right now, and throughout the remainder of development for this game, the main focus should be uncharted 3! Not uncharted 3!............developed around move support.

I agree. I don't see Move making this game any better. I'm all for ND supporting the Dualshock on this one.

I would also like to add, I think sony is doing one hell of a job! It is very evident that they want to beat microsoft out the door on supporting their new hardware with fully supported titiles. I mean hey, do we really wanna play motion dance and motion bowling for the whole year? Hell no! So sony is getting some hard core titles to really put the MOVE on the map. Hence, KZ3 and its own gun, socom, little big planet, and more to come. As well as heavy rain and mag already playable! So sony just relax, you're doing a hell of a job! Many great titles to come for the ps3&move, so don't stress ND and restrict uncharted from its full potential. Also, hello psxe fam, and great article b-dut!

There's no way it could work. What would you even do with the thing? You could point it for shooting but whoopdy do, it wouldn't add any fun.

If it won't work don't put it in, if there is it can and will make it better or alternative method then I don't see why not, so pretty much

It affects gameplay or design= NO
it dosen't affect anything only and alternative=YES

I admire the relationship Sony displays when working with developers. Not like that other company that has been known to rush devs to put a game out before they themselves felt it was ready.

I don't think Move would work in such an action drifted game that requires fast reaction in many situations. 3D still sound quite impressive even if I'm not that into home 3D. If I watch a 3D movie in cinema it really rocks but i'm quite aware of wearing those glasses in front of my TV. After watching a whole movie in 3D I'm always feeling a little bit dizzy - and if I think about a whole night of gaming: ehm ... no. Maybe I have to try it if one of my buddies suddenly gets into this field of entertainment. Uncharted 3 - can't wait for this one!

@ Guyver: Who the hell are these two girls in your avatar-picture? They seems quite hot even if they so small I'm hanging right in front of this screen ... Yip, we are men.

id be nice to see move added into uncharted 3.
certainly is hard, i cant see it working for the platforming bits but than you do have buttons on the move and sub controller so why not just use those?
have both obviously, but id be nice to have full move support.
full as in start to finish, not that only once in a blue moon BS TRON pulled!
so stupid you have to keep your move controller on the whole time just for 2 minutes of use.
play the game for say 3 hours and you only get to use the move controller for maybe 10 minutes!
what a waste of the battery!

Hmm... I don't see Move working with Uncharted. Naughty Dog are plenty inventive though, so I can see them finding a use for it. Perhaps something akin to the mini-games of The Sly Trilogy?

To be honest, I'm not fussed either way, as I don't think I would use Move with the game, even if I had it. I only hope and pray that this game comes out on the specified date, and no later. That would simply break my heart.
Peace.

(Off-topic)

When Kaz saikd he wouldn't implement move into GT5 because he couldn't find a use, well, I thought about it.

What if you put move in a wheel? If its as accurate as they say...

There are already plenty of wheel peripherals. I don't see Move being a brilliant alternative to most of them.

it wont work with a floating wheel like the wii does. gt5 is a completely different beast compared to other racing games. besides, what are you going to use as brake and acceleration, not to mention shifting. doing that along with using the move controller to turn is just too much of a hassle to do. besides, nothing can provide precision in that game other than steering wheels, especially ones made for gran turismo series.

Good to hear that Sony is leaving it up to the pros to decide.

If Naughty Dog really wants to, maybe just add the Move as a shooting option in the mulitplayer component.

By the way, did he say sixasix?! About time Sony sent a new PS3 down ND's office ;)

I find it hard to see how Move would work with a game like Uncharted. A game like Heavy Rain or Sorcery (I assume) is a good platform for the "move" style of gaming. In my opinion a third person shooter is a little harder to pull of the MOVE atmosphere as opposed to a FPS.

That being said, I can't wait to see how Socom 4 does with the MOVE, and how the gameplay will compare beside KZ3...I'll be getting both and probably trying the Move in Both.

Move might work with some parts of Uncharted, but not others. The Uncharted games have solid platforming roots, and I don't see how Move can work with that.

Then again, the grenade aiming with the sixaxis worked alright. As long as they are not forcing the tech into the game, I don't think there is a problem. Seems like Sony is aware of this.

Not every game needs to be move compatible. Move is a good addition to a lot of games. Yet we don't need every game to have the capability. Hell I still think they need to make more use of the six axis control scheme

Not every game needs it, but I think Sony's thinking right now is that the more "A" games that support Move, the more Move units get off the shelves. It's also proof that Sony is not going abandon the Move if they put it into their top sellers.

You may be right. I just think that they need to make Move games and not try to have devs create a game then implement Move. Some of the best games out don't really need Move at all.

I just don't want Sony to cram it down our throats. I plan on getting it within the next month (b4 Killzone). I still just would like to see more with the six axis and other things we've wanted coughpartychatcough

Good for Sony. We all know Naughty Dog is going to do what's right to make this game incredible. I don't see how move would really help to do anything in a UC game, but ND might just pull a rabbit out of their hat and surprise us.

I think that whatever hardcore Move games do come, that they should also have the option to also turn it off & use the DS3, just for those who prefer it that way.

See, best of both worlds then.

Playstation needs to focus on AAA Playstation Move exclusives. Having the Playstation Move as an option in AAA games is not going to do much for it.
