What Is Final Fantasy Type-O?

Yeah, you know what time it is. It's time to play Guess That Trademark.

Siliconera has noticed a new listing in Europe's trademark database: it's for a game called "Final Fantasy Type-O." Strangely, Square-Enix also filed a logo along with the title; it's "type zero" written out in kanji. So what does it all mean? Well, the publisher does have a production press conference scheduled for January so maybe they'll unveil "Type 0" there but in the meantime, we can only guess at the game in question. The name doesn't really give us any leads, although we're willing to bet some hardcore Final Fantasy fan will dive into the annals of the franchise and find some obscure reference to "type 0" somewhere. Barring some discovery there, though, we'll be in the dark for a while longer. It could just be an all-new FF project that is currently unknown and of course, we have no clue about the intended platforms.

Let's see...how does "type 0" fit in with FFVII...hmm... It has to link up somehow...because you know, Square-Enix has finally seen the light and... Bah, forget it.

Type Zero..isn't that a Gundam reference? Final Fantasy Gundam Wing..here we go...

Just kidding, but let's hope Type O means a reference to going back to their roots and taking a page out of the book from the Square Enix days....

Probably for the PSP Phone...Hopefully not. Hopefully it'll be a real FF game for the PS3, PSP or PSP2...

Probably another DS game to milk the franchise.

Off-topic, finally get a chance to play Star Ocean for PS3 now and I am loving every second of it. After 30 hours of gameplay, I'm still not 1/3 through the game. It makes me wonder how come Final Fantasy 13 can't be like this. It has, rich cutscenes and content, towns, level up system. It only loses to FF13 in graphics.

I enjoyed Star Ocean as well, it gets really crazy later on and has a sweet ending. Though I'm not sure if it has one or numerous endings.

Hooray! It's either their 1 millionth handheld 'Final Fantasy' game or the announcement of 'Final Fantasy XV'... which will be released in 2015... expect delays though so maybe 2017... alright, you've waited this long so why not wait until the next decade? Spring 2020 release... for Japan. North America and Europe will get a later release date... soon... Hooray!

Waiting and waiting and in anticipation only to be dissapointed when it finally arrives. Seems to me that 3rd party devs made better games when they made exclusives.

you know what kills me is that square enix says that making a full all out final fantasy 7 remake would take so long on the ps3,,, but what about the wii ? its still in the older graphics model no HD... why dont they make their great turnbased, towns, being able to talk to anyone, adventure just like everyother final fantasy game 1-10x2 !? makes no sense (with the classic controller that is)

FF7 was made on PS1 during the Squaresoft era. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost 100% sure Sony has a strong say in what happens with FF games VII through X-2. I don't think it would be possible for it to become a Nintendo thing.

They can do it with FFVI and lower, however, since originals were done with Nintendo.

Maybe a reboot of the original FF game? Since they're doing a Tomb Raider reboot, why not? I'd like to see an updated version of the original. Well I'd really like to see FFVI get the upgrade treatment.

These subtitles are usually portable spin-offs. Perhaps a proper turn-based FF on the PSP to test the waters... Oh, I shouldn't go getting your hopes up like that.

I hope its a return to more turn based gameplay on the ps3.. but knowing SE its probably a new game for some kind of obscure calculator ..or even more probably its like typing of the dead.
But so that the gameplay can feature 'an unforgettable storyline , a battle system blending action and strategy, cutting edge visuals and awe inspiring cinematic sequences, FINAL FANTASY Type 0' will therefore only use the 0 key !
