MK Creator: We'll Pay Faithful Tribute To The God Of War

When it was revealed that the God of War himself will be in the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, fans of both franchises were ecstatic.

Well, most were ecstatic. Some had questions about how Kratos would look and feel in a straight-up fighting game. However, MK creator Ed Boon says the team will be faithful to Kratos' history: speaking to Games Master, Boon specified that they wanted a character "unique to the PS3" and of course, Kratos was at the top of the list. He also says the bulky, deep-voiced hero fits well into the MK universe, and the developers are actually working closely with Sony:

"With any great IP, there are guidelines that must be followed. We're working really closely with the God of War team to ensure that Kratos looks and feels the way gamers expect him to. We have nothing but respect for the God of War development team, and our goal is to stay true to their creation. Kratos is very much a power character, in that his attacks can do a lot of damage. After all, he is the God of War."

They want to keep Kratos "true to form," in that he'll remind everyone of his bad-ass ability in the GoW games. In other words, if you remember some of the moves he had with those deadly blades, you should be able to recognize a few of those very same moves in Mortal Kombat. ...yep, just another reason to be excited for the new MK.

Other than the fact Kratos isn't in the main story mode for the game I'm excited that the MK team is going the extra mile to ensure that Kratos remains true to form in this new MK. Can't wait to play him.

I can only imagine what some of his specials would be, maybe pulling out apollo's head to daze the enemy, or grabbing the enemy with this chains and flinging them to the other side.

They can't be to faithful to Kratos in the MK universe.

If they were, Kratos would fight them all..

I like what I hear so far about the new MK. I like that they are working to keep Kratos..well..Kratos..

Still want them to give him some story though. It would make his addition THAT much better to MK.

I had said before that Kratos could take conflict with the Elder Gods of MK and that could be the story.

We have a semi-idea of how GoW will be as a 2D fighter. We've all fought Zues in GoW3 right? It had a nice little brawl going on there =) That little diddy will probably look better then anything we'll see from MK =p

I'm mostly interested in MK because I have a long time friend who couldn't be a bigger fan of MK, Halo, or Transformers. I think this guy knows more about MK than Ed Boon himself. BUt anyway, he has a 360 and no PS3 so I feel inclined to get the 360 version. My LIVE membership is up in May so I'm really feeling the desire to cast LIVE aside. MK + LIVE = $120 (maybe a bit less on deals) It's a lofty cost. Plus, I don't get Kratos and his exclusive stage.... I think I need to put my Shepard conversation skills to the test again and try and persuade him to get a PS3... his x360 is RRoD, too. I'd be 2 - 0 in PS3 conversions over the past month =p
Right now is a great time to get PS3 converts guys! With so many dieing 360's, there's never been a better time to point out the PS3's strengths and reel them in =)

Yeah, he'll be a tough one to convert, though. Those 3 interests of his are like the beginning and end of what he likes. But we'll see ;)

And I'm happy to be around here =)
There's not too many places a person can go to have intelligent game talk with people who care as much as we do. And even if I don't always agree with some people sometimes, I do like everyone here and enjoy being part of these boards =)

I can't wait to see him slicing people to death! Stomping on their head and ripping their eyes out!

Gory goodness! So good to see Mortal Kombat back!

They should make it as gory as possible imo (but not too gory/realistic). It's gotta have that comical side MK2 had. You know like Jhonny Cage with his arrow kick and stuff like that.

Can't wait, so getting this.

THIS is a reboot that was direly needed. Though I understood Kratos in Soul Calibur because it's a weapons fighter, so I wonder how he will fit into the MK universe. Yeah the 3D ones had weapons but I didn't think they would be back for this. Will he have Scorpion like moves?

"Get over here! ... Woops my chaos blade cut him in half"

I would really like to see Kratos heading also to the new MK at the xbox360 so all xbox fanboys would know what they were missing for a long time,

beside that Mk has been always about hand to hand fighting , Id love to see how would Kratos would fit there along with his beloved long blades,that woul be a real challenge them

That would be cool but they will probably put in Marcus Fenix from GoW fame for the X360 fanboys. Does anyone know if they have a X360 famed character being added to MK? Or is this another PS3 preferred game! :)

Nice! If he's half the bad ass he's known to be in his own realm, I'd be worried to versus him in the normal game mode... Can't spend much time fighting if I'm all shock and awe at one of my favorite characters!
