LittleBigPlanet 2 Wows Critics

We all knew Media Molecule's second effort would be bigger - and hopefully better - than the original. But would the critics laud it for taking progressive steps or would they say it's just a big 'ol expansion pack?

Well, it seems no reviewer is willing to say the latter, as it makes zero sense. Thus far, the critical reception for LittleBigPlanet 2 is through the roof: after about a dozen reviews from relatively major sites, it's averaging about 94% (depending on your sources). This includes a 9.5 from Game Informer, a 9.4 from CVG, a 9.1 from 1Up, a 9.0 from Eurogamer and IGN, a 5 out of 5 from GamePro, and another perfect score from Joystiq. The lowest tallied score is an 8.5 and you can probably expect a whole lot more 9+ scores in the near future. Many analysts and publishers always say it's absolutely crucial to have a game that scores extremely high if they want big-time sales figures, and so far, it seems Sackboy's follow-up is primed for a huge debut. It may only be a PlayStation 3 exclusive - thereby automatically limiting potential sales - but many remember the unparalleled brilliance of the original, and can't wait to sample the sequel.

So, do you plan on rewarding Media Molecule for a job well done? Are you gonna dive into the new, immersive world of "Create, Play, Share?"

what I want to know is... if LBP gameplay is all included in LBP2. I mean that when GT5 released, I sold my GT5P, because there's no reason to own the previous version when the later version is everything and more. I also sold my Resident Evil 5 and Street Fight 4 when the new ones came out.

They've announced that all DLC and most of the user-created levels can be used in it. So, pretty much yeah, there's no realistic need to keep hold of the original, unless you really like the campaign.
Peace.

What I don't understand, IGN gave the first game a 9.5. They said this one was better in just about every way yet they only gave it a 9.0?

That site has major issues.

(Took from other news post)

I just read IGN review.
The guy basically says "I can't be arsed to get into the create tools, but yeah they're cool." Seeing the potential is one thing, but that doesn't mean you can give a review on it. Mind you I played his level from LBP1 and it was god-awful, not to be rude but it was.

I just find it wrong that someone passes judgement on a game's creation tools when they haven't even given it half a chance. To be fair he said it himself it doesn't deserve to be on the servers, but that doesn't cut it IMO, & after the in-depth review's of Ben & Arnold who can take more than atleast a few weeks before publishing a review, make him look like he's in the wrong job. OKAY DONE.
BTW the first LBP was 9.7

Greg doesn't strike me as the creative type so I don't blame him. He still gave the game a good review, and you can review the game based on the tools provided and the campaign. He doesn't need to create a masterpiece in order to fairly review the game. I just find it odd that they would give this one a lower score than its predecessor considering it's an improvement from first game in just about every way.

EDIT: "BTW the first LBP was 9.7"

Well then, that makes their 9.0 for LBP2 even stranger.

Maybe he was let down slightly? You must also remember that IGN switched to a twenty point system recently, so LBP would only gotten a 9.5. What I don't understand is that they gave SMG2 a 10, and then took points from LBP, even though it has a wealth of additional content.
Peace.

I was looking on Game Rankings and CVG UK rated this a 9.4 but rated LBP a 9.6. I can't understand this because their LBP2 review constantly states how it is better than the original in both the campaing and design modes. This is why I trust the reviews on this site above all others.

But if you ever played his level, you'd understand what I mean. It's like he didn't understand basic game mechanics, E.G checkpoints..& the fact that 100 speech bubbles in a level simply isnt fun, even though it was intresting to hear his life story. Also, he doesn't mention the Little bits that make a Big difference (:D) like how microchips can be used, & how significant the change in the format of logic, or if the LBP1 levels worked at all (he doesn't mention but I recall my level breaking in the beta). See what I'm saying? Maybe I'm just the type of guy who needs 10 pages of writing to justify a review I dunno :P

Personally, I can't understand IGNs scoring system. The LBP review showed this again. Although 9 really is a great score, the scoring system seems broken to me. Referring to other reviews the scoring is in every sub-category different (i.e. Xbox 360 reviews have their own rating progress as PS3, Wii and others have their own). I'm inclined to believe that in Xbox 360 reviews the grade 10 indicates a masterpiece and in PS3 reviews it indicates the PERFECT GAME, which is undenyably impossible. Therefore I see this grade as a good one and don't think about the rating system. If I do so I will get mad. I'm tuned for this review. It will be great as usual. :)

Different reviewers score differently.

Getting too caught up in the numbers is a recipe for frustration. I used to worry about whether this game beat that game or whatever, but now I just take the number as an approximation and I find myself less aggravated by reviewers.

The only real gripe reviewers have with the sequel is the still 'floaty' controls. I admit I occasionally found them quite frustrating in the original. On the plus side however, you can control 'sackbots' in user created levels, and as such you can create your own custom controls for them. I'm sure some bright community members will come up with some snappier and more fluid controls. I can't wait.

Is a platformer and there are story levels where you get could prize bubbles like clothes, stickers, and decorations for your levels. You could make levels and put them online or just play other people's levels with friends. In lbp2 you could make more than just platformers like movies, 2D figthers, etc.

I have to agree with Oxvial. The demo was a bit slow and the firefights weren't nearly as polished as Uncharted's or Gears of War's firefights. But the overall plot sounds really interesting. Though I can't get along with the fact that Mass Effect 3 is taking a major place on earth. When a space shooter offers me so much new worlds to explore, why should I come back to earth again?

so wanted to love this since its really the last of the 2D platformer dying breed.
but the demo was so boring.
one thing i absolutely loathe about gaming journalists is there all hypocrites!
they mark bad games down for being repetitive, but than leave good games alone for being repetitive.
why does harry potter get marked down for being repetitive and GOW3 does not?
why does JC2 get marked down for being repetitive but LBP2 does not.
in the demo you start doing something than thats all you do for that whole level!
if thats not repetitive than nothing is!
watching the G4 review of the latest harry potter game there main complaint is you only get one set of enemies to fight in the game.
sound familiar?
i swear to god game journalists are the worlds biggest hypocrites!
they mark one game down for something, than act like it does not matter for another.

You're judging a game by it's demo...

strike one.

You say a game is repetitive simply because it has similar gameplay, yet you ignore the infinite amounts of additions that allow you to not just have variations on what's already established, but completely new experiences and control. Based on what I've read of LBP2, this game is anything but a repetition. In fact, it's the definition of what a sequel SHOULD be.

Strike 2.

You just compared Harry Potter to GOW3...

Strike 3.

You're out, dude. FAR out.

Hell yeah LBP2!!!

What's so great about LBP is that it can cater to everyone, and it has infinite replay value. And you don't HAVE to create a level or anything to enjoy. I myself didn't do anything with the create tools but I had a lot of fun playing levels other people created. And the quality of good levels made just increases as time goes by. And you could pop it in and play anytime you want. And who can resist Sackboy/girl?

LBP2 is gonna be sweet.

Well, people shouldn't make such ignorant assumptions. I use PS3 Linux, so haven't been able to play any newer games that require FW 3.22 or higher. I just want to be able to have my 'fully functional PS3' back...and if Sony isn't going to give me a separate PS3 to play new games, access PSN/etc. with, the hackers are the only ones providing a possible alternative. Even the hackers don't condone piracy, but Sony brought whatever happens with it upon themselves.

Smart thinking BS. same here.
In fact there are several games out over the past few months I'm going to do the same with.

I have enough to keep me happy until then anyway.

LBP GOTY doesn't have all the DLC; a lot, but not all.

For that reason, I'll probably buy the initial version of LBP2, though not for a while.

Fane, does it not? interesting.

I bought the original LBP on launch (or very shortly after) and it was just £17.99 which to me was a steal and well worth the price of entry. I do wonder if they generated more revenue at that price point than if they retailed at the full £40.
