THQ Gets All Nostalgic With He-Man, Barbie, More

THQ has often fared well by obtaining various popular licenses, and it seems they'll continue to keep that tradition alive.

According to GameSpot, the publisher has signed a multi-platform deal with Mattel to produce games based on Barbie, Polly Rocket, Hot Wheels, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, and Masters of the Universe (i.e., He-Man). The titles in question will be available for various consoles and mobile devices, as well as PCs, social networks, the PSN, WiiWare, Xbox Live and handhelds. So if you've got kids around - or you're a kid yourself, wishing to relive the glory days of '80s childhood - stay on the lookout for more info concerning these future projects. For our part, we definitely think they should do some combining. You know, like Barbie and He-Man; she gets to be his trophy after suffering as the damsel in distress, or something. Then again, maybe you could create a bizarre blend of Hot Wheels and Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots...robots are terrorizing the earth and only the Hot Wheels (equipped with lotsa weapons) can take them down, ala Twisted Metal.

Well, use your imaginations. They may not be blockbusters, but they're sure to appeal to a certain demographic.

Why can't the US make good cartoons anymore? It's sad that these companies have to go back to the past to get good cartoons to work with. Same with movies...

Think it's far too late for this. I'm thinking the target demographic is the younger kids..Yet these days not too many children even know about He-man and the like..

Every episode of He-Man and the Masters of The Universe, The New Adventures of He-Man(He-Man in space. So bad it's fun to watch), and the Cartoon Network reboot on DVD and this sounds like a terrible, terrible, terrible idea. Now Silverhawks; that would make an awesome game. Using Tallyhawk to scout ala The Mark of Kri, using Bluegrass and blasting baddies with Hot Licks...

Its a shame that on a saturday cartoon's are no where to be found. I lived for saturday mornings where from 7-1030 was nothing but great cartoons an bowls of high sugar cereal..

Or Go-Bots. Yeesh, I still remember that horrible series. But it was fine, I guess, up until you saw a Transformers episode.

A He-Man game could possibly work, depending on the style the do it in. Champions of Norrath style possibly? And I wish that would get a sequel too.

Wow... retro. All I remember of most of these was watching old episodes on Cartoon Network when I was like... ten. It feels so long ago, but then I remember that these were around for twenty years before that.
It'll be a kick for those that are still young at heart.
Peace.
