Early Deadly Descents Info Doesn't Impress The Fans

Although we've waited quite some time for the return of the critically acclaimed SSX franchise, some long-time fans are none too happy with the perceived new direction.

And now, with more details leaking out thanks to an EGM unveiling (as noted at GameZone), the fans might be even more perturbed. If we've forgotten, we're talking about a series that was all about straight-up arcade-style action. There was never anything remotely realistic about it, and that's exactly what we enjoyed. But it seems EA wishes to instill some authenticity into Deadly Descents: there will be 17 regions with 70 randomly generated mountains to attack, but that's not the terrible part. It seems players will have to take notice of the conditions - thin air, extra ice, etc. - and compensate by packing differently. That's right, packing. As for possible returning characters, Elise has only been confirmed thus far and overall, the fans are starting to question EA's new direction. For our part, we have to see a bit of gameplay and get more details before coming to a conclusion; the packing/preparation part might be very minor.

But we just did a piece on franchises that strayed, and we sincerely hope we won't have to add SSX: Deadly Descents to the list...

We'll see how they do with it, Hot Pursuit as a reboot had some realism with the steering and that didn't stop fans from enjoying it.

I like how EA is bring their old franchises into the spotlight.

Me too, tons of old franchises need a return this gen. I hate to see them gather dust and mold as companies toss out annoying crappy IPs instead or decide to ruin long running series.

I want NFS to come back with Underground. Underground 2 is 5th on my list of racing games, behind Blur, GT3:Aspec,GT4 and GT5. Im not sure if it would be on top of Off Road fury 2/3, but its up ther too.
Their are so many series I want too return/remake, Jet moto, MGS 1 and 2(remake), and Crash along with NFS Underground.

New IPs are good but we cant forget about the ones that brought us into gaming, come on give us some remakes at least, Return are faves!

Is EA Sports BIG still an active branch of EA? All the previous SSX games were BIG games, why isn't this one?

EA's BIG in no more. EA said they were stopping BIG a while ago. A year or two ago I think. I was sad to hear that when it happened.

I have to say I fit into this category. The trailer for this new SSX left me with some questions. Where's the crazy over the top personalities? Where's the colorful tracks and fireworks? I'm really not into snowboarding sims. I wasn't back then, and I'm not now. Anyway, there's still a lot to be revealed but I do have some skepticism and apprehension about what will eventually be revealed.

Guns to shoot soldiers band bears lurking in the backgrounds.

The Russians will get on snowboards and chase you down so you need to pack some guns

etc.

It's basically SSX: Call of Duty

Good job EA!

Now we'll get to play Snowboarding Duty: Deadly Descent

First time I saw the trailer I seriously thought it was some war game... Extremely disappointed.

Why are they rebooting a franchise that doesn't need a reboot?

Devil May Cry doesn't need a reboot, Final Fantasy doesn't need a reboot, Meal Gear Solid doesn't need a reboot (that new Raiden crap game -_- )

Seriously, these companies are either blind or dumb, or both.

Who the hell is advising these companies?

Now I'll have to "pack" before I got snowboarding?

LAME, this game will fail, mark my words.

The only thing that could save this game is the charismatic characters. Hopefully they bring back some of the best ones. Nate was my favorite male character while Zoe and Kaori were my favorite female characters.

That's like the only thing which could give this game some character/life.

A hi-def SSX Tricky with a handful of more tracks, revamped insane courses and about a dozen more insane hilarious characters. Those are the basics of what the fans want.

What happened to colour? What happened to insane fireworks at most jumps? What happened, EA? Not all gamers want their games to look like Call of Duty!!!! Call of Duty should look like Call of Duty, SSX had its own style and now it's gone!!!

If I wanted to play Call of Duty, I'd play that. I am sick of this generation trying to copy one game's image, it won't work! It never does! Only reason these games sell is brand name alone, look at Final Fantasy XIII, Splinter Cell, I'm sure there's more but all have stepped backwards trying to copy CoD, and I for one am sick of it.

Catherine looks to be a breath of fresh air though. Here's hoping it gets an English translation.

It would be a travisty if they strayed away from the gaming gold that was ssx1-3, but I guess we have to accept that things we love will die eventually. And as far as ssx is concerned ssx on tour was pretty much the gaming equivalent of stage 1 cancer.

Im almost positive ill be getting this game already it is still like a hole year away, but I love snowboarding and miss the old snowboarding/skating games from the past.

This looks nothing like the arcade style everybody is use too, but Im fine with that. Deadly descents is looking really interesting. I have no problem with being more realistic and if it was up to me, all games would be.
Im always finding my self not using certain features in games because their not realistic, I already know that I will not use the new mode in Driver that allows you too pause the game after you crash, roam the city from the sky looking for any car and then continue the chase. I will not be doing that, If you crash your done or just have to catch back up.

Hey, I love my realism. I guess the guys who are in this crowd are the same people who don't like GT5 because its too realistic for them.
Im looking forward to a lot more info this year.

So what's with games and their identity crisis lately? We have SSX going sim. Splinter Cell going more arcade action. FF13 going out to lunch. No more weighty controls in KZ. Lara Croft losing her boobs. DMC has gone western. Next thing we know, Mario will be performing fatalities, punching out Yoshi's spine saying "WOO HOO! I GOT IT!"

Whatever happened to plain old re-hashes?
Now we get re-boots.

Yup, those were the defining characteristic that brought female heroes to the forefront. All they had to do to get adolescent boys to play as a woman is give her a rack.

I think as far as the snowboarding aspect of the gameplay goes it can still be arcade-style, maybe they're just giving you more to do in the game besides snow boarding like side missions or whatever could be interesting in my opinion. I haven't played a snowboarding game since the last Cool Boarders.

I'm sorry for all you guys & gals who loved the original SSX format. As for me, I've never been able to get into the whole skateboard/skiing/snowboard type of games, but this finally looks like it could be the very first one I might enjoy.

And as a 1st timer at 58, I'll either wind up shredding the slopes, or breaking every last frigging bone in my little ole virtual body.

I do fear that it will be much of the latter though.....

You know what, if the controls are still tight and there's hardly any glitches or bugs, I think this might be alright. Sure I'll miss the over the top colourful characters and insane tracks and jumps from Tricky, but I've been craving some snowboarding action for some time, and a good snowboarding game at that.

Also, is this going to multiplatform? Wasn't the original SSX a PS2 exclusive? Ah well.

Still sounds like there's gonna be a lot of tracks and some exploring too. That's always a plus in my books. Focus on the positive, thats what I gotta do!!

They've got a ton of the guys who made the Skate games working on it so forget the old controls and expect twin stick dog shit.

Seriously, nI DESPISE Skate's controls and just when it looks like THAT sad franchise has died they use it to screw with SSX? Screw you EA.
